More from the Starburst 311 (June 2004) interview with Brian Henson about the mini - some non-spoily bits. I'm not transcribing the whole thing. Really. Honestly. Go and buy your own copy.

"With Farscape, we've learned a lot of ways of doing FX and action sequences that are really cool but at the same time are more cost effective than other productions. I think this will be a production that will know that the price tag is (and I don't want to comment on that), but it's expensive. At the same time, it will look like it's about 75-100% more expensive than it is. When people see this, they will say, 'My God, that is surely the most money that anyone has ever spent on TV!'"

"... we were really able to pull together the team we wanted. It just came down to the loyalty that Farscape creates for the people that are making it. Farscape is one of those shows that's so creative, people who make television programs won't have more than one or two of them in their lives, so we were able to bring everybody back. I think there are a lot of producers down there in Australia who are very mad at me right now, because I just stole people from all over the place!"

"The action and the FX are brilliant and surprising, in the Farscape tradition. This is a big, epic, sweeping story that we're going to be telling. What's wonderful is we're able to take four hours and do a huge movie that an emotional impact {sic}. It's touching, it's poignant, and it's about the characters. It's a love story on the largest scale, and at the same time, it's a wonderful and fantastic roller coaster of action, special-effects and aliens!"

I have a sense that what Brian's really saying here is, "It's big. It's REALLY big." :D

Sounds cool. But it seems the entire mini is focusing on J and A. I hope the others get their time in the spotlight as well.

Who's ready fo' some Farscape? I's ready fo' some Farscape.

(And I do hope it isn't just the love story part myself. Well obviously it itsn't or there'd be no war going on in the premise, but I just hope the other characters get some development outside of the inevitable changes made to their personas due to the events.)

Count me in for the DVD when it comes out.

Tell me when it is aired in the UK (Nov/Dec I think) and I'll book my place in front of the TV and get in some ice cream (always gotta have ice cream)

Jeff O'Connor

Yep, ice cream... the real man's popcorn. :aok:

Mike@Pilots Chamber

Popcorn is damn good too.

Ice cream is more convenient.

Hmm... ice cream or popcorn...

Back onto topic now after that moment of randomness... looking forward to this, to actually seeing a conclusion (we can speculate all we want, it would still not happen in any way we envisage) and all the glorious special effects!

They SO need to show a trailer for it at a convention before it airs (I think there's a convention before it airs).

And then someone needs to get it out onto the net so I can download it and revel in it's glory.

Possibly with ice cream (I'm sure there's something unhealthy about a Farscape/ice cream relationship)

Does anyone know what kind of place Scarrans will have in the mini? Gotta have more Scarrans! I do hope the supporting characters get their moment in the spotlight - while the whole J/A situation deserves a mention, it shouldn't take the whole mini to deal with it. Though it would be nice to know if the baby survies Aeryn and John's disintegration on Quijgaas (however the frell it's spelled).

the Farscape/ice cream relationship is perfect. I might try it tonight.
and there will be Scarrans it is a war between the peacekeeprs and the Scarrans.

Jeff O'Connor

I think he meant more specifically than them just being one side of a war.

Does anyone know what kind of place Scarrans will have in the mini?

Elsewhere in the interview, Brian said that Akhna and Staleek have very strong roles in the mini.

Yes but the Nebari, what about them... okay I know there will probablly be none other than Chiana.

Jeff O'Connor

Yes but the Nebari, what about them... okay I know there will probablly be none other than Chiana.

Then they could well have much devotion toward them in the future, without so much J/A and PK/Scarran interference.

RydraWong

Indeed - they've got to have something to save for the spin-offs and movies, after all :D.

SabaceanBabe
05-21-2004, 12:21 PM
I could easily see a spin-off series devoted to Chiana and Nerri and the Nebari resistance...

I think he meant more specifically than them just being one side of a war.

That's right. I mean special, stand-out characters. Captain Jennek was good before he got too close to John's nuke.

What would be good is someone like Garash in Keepers of the Peace (http://members.chello.se/scaperdome/kotp.episodes.html) or Talannah in Harrigan's Heroes (http://www.farscapefantasy.com/creative/index.php?area=fiction&story=324). Someone who proves that Scarrans can be more than brutish knuckleheads.

Where did you get that issue of Starburst? I haven't found it around here yet at Barnes and Noble where I usually get it.

RydraWong
05-21-2004, 04:05 PM
My local newsagent's. But I'm in the UK, so that issue may not have reached the US yet.

Jeff O'Connor

I could easily see a spin-off series devoted to Chiana and Nerri and the Nebari resistance...

My take was that D'Argo and Chiana are together again, and D'Argo gets the Luxan Race under him, and together with the Nebari Resistance (Nerri and whatnot) the brutish aggressive Luxans and anti-conformitive Nebari take on the Establishment.
