I don't have a trusting nature when it comes to the internet really , does anyone think that its just a story to help push a sale for an item thats already all over the place on the net?
Maybe not, but you never know :D

I guess the kid got what he deserved. I mean, I did my fair share of lying to the parent when I was a teen, but this kid crossed the line. Also, he doesn't sound too bright--drinking your parents' beer and wine, in their house, and leaving the evidence lying around? Moron!!
On the bright side, maybe the kid will now have more time to read books or watch educational shows on TV.

Well the beef hormones might make you bigger, but I've noticed kids these days to be so much dumber.

not dumber they just lack commen scense My brother (my 14 year old one) is a genius but he does really stupid things and then when asked what he thought would happen he says "I don't know I'd get in trouble I guess"

Aha. Kid doesn't get his playtoy. Aha. When I was his age, I had just gotten one too... or no... I was 14, or something... then, I was so in love with the RPGs I was getting and whatnot, then my friend broke it and I haven't been able to afford a new one since despite all the new RPGs and everything, so nyeah. Kid has to suffer like me.
Oh yeah. I'm so... compassionate.

Maybe if my Mom had taken such drastic measures when my little bro was that age, he wouldn't be in all the trouble he's in now.

sell the kid's posession that'll teach'im to do something like that...why not just sell the PS2 and then let the kid work off what he owes? between the price of the PS2 and accessories and the bottle of dom perignion and all the other stuff he'd be regretting this for quite some time, and if that didn't work, ship the little bastard off to military school, then again it could be a hoax, anyone with the brains to spell dom perignion should be able to spell recoup

My first thought was that this was an interesting story created to hype the bidding. But even if that is the case, it is a great way for a parent to teach their kid a lesson.
But I still think you should combine it with some kind of chore too. Afterall, money should not be the focus of the situation. Disobedience and disrespect should. So if they also cause him to do some extra chore, like landscaping or painting, he'll remember it more. But if they stick with money as the issue, he might just turn around and snurch something of theirs from the attic they won't miss for a while, and sell it on E-bay to get the money for a new PS2.

I wouldn't have 'sold' the PS2...I would have taken my son to a children's hospital and donated it.
In fact, I had a close friend who did just that with her two daughter's TVs. They were repeatedly told if they kept watching the TV in the upstairs den, after bedtime it would be taken to charity. Of course the daughters did not want this to happen, because they entertained their friends in this room and watched movies, played games, etc. But they also would watch TV late on school nights and be tired next day. My friend went up one morning to wake them up for school and found both asleep in the den w/TV still on. That Saturday, they all took it to the children's hospital for their common room. I thought it was a great way to mix a bit of punishment with a lesson in charity.

Donation is the most effective way.
A little story.
One day I stayed home from school because I was to sick to get up and go. My mother and the school didn't believe me and though I was skipping, so I got a week of detention, and my mother made me sell all of my transformers, This was in mid nineties and these transformers were now collectors items and rare ones in great condition at that. Unfortunatley none of them sold so she took them all to salvation army. I still get very very angry when ever I think about it.
