Yet another royal fxxk up by the people that brought you Rodney King, RAMPART, and OJ.
Ok, I'm in college, a semester away from becoming a cop. I have a violent temper. Hell, I've had to be stopped from beating somebody to death with a bat, and I can sympathisze with losing control, but this is out of hand!
Six on one, the guy is on the ground, and not only does he get his skull punted like a football, but he gets smacked around with a flashlight 11 times.
Now, I wasn't there, butto me, it looked like the first officer was pulling his hand back to handcuff him when the second officer hit the boot. He didn't look combative, but you can't tell from the camera shot.
This was just a stupid mistake.
A good friend of mine who I've know since I was little has been in HPD for over 20 years. He tells me that in HPD, if a suspect gives you lip or spits on you, you beat the living dog shit out of him, just make sure its only cops that see you do it.
So my advice to LAPD, wait to get him inside, away from the cameras before breaking out the can of whopass.

I haven't seen it, first I hear of it (yes it's a cave). I'm gonna turn on the tv and have a look.

My dad was a PA State Police officer for more than 30 years, ending his career as a Leiutenant (sp? - I'm tired).
He decried any excessive use of force - and the one time as a rookie when he just [i]baited[i] a suspect in custody, he was sternly reprimanded.... something he sees now as wisdom and as the law.
As a station commander, he enforced that wisdom and followed the law.
To endorse such behavior by the police is to make them essentially a gang with badges. Cops who behave like that aren't public servants:
THEY ARE CRIMINALS!

THEY ARE CRIMINALS!
He is a damn good cop actually, and I admire him a lot. One thing you have to remember about Houston is: We have the most corrupt city government and emergency services in America. People have died in ambulences here before because the paramedics stopped for donuts while the person was dying in the back.
Our firefighters are ill equiped because the city government took bribes to buy horrible trucks.
Not to mention the local crimelord here has the tendancy to have neighborhoods declare war on police.

You should write for the Houston Tourism committee...

Oh, and if you happen to get killed here, there is a good chance the ME will steal some of your organs and sell them on the black market.
At least now they are trying to beautify the city a little bit, so now on rainy nights it dosen't look exactly like Noir-stylized Detroit from "The Crow".
Oh, and recently our crimelord was arrested because he was traveling with a cop killer. He is free now, but I expect somebody is going to burn for this at HPD. Basically, if the police can't find a killer, they turn to the crimelord (Quanell X), and he ususally turns them in. He was apparently trying to do this when the police pulled over his pimped out H2.

I only saw a short ABC video of the beating on the net, so I'm still a bit confused as to what happened. Actually, the reporter also seemed a bit confused and kept repeating that since the video was taken from the helecoptor it was hard to tell what was taking place. Then there were a couple of sound bites from the police force and several civil liberty groups. They all seemed a bit confused too and kept saying that we all should reserve judgement until more information available.
However, the headline for the story was "Rodney King All Over Again". Sometimes the news media just kills me. I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this incident. Particularly if it's a slow news week.

If you did that in London, you would be fired on the spot.
Erm....this Houston place....it is in the free world isn't it?

I still haven't seen anything on any news reports. Doesn't seem to be a big deal.

Unfortunantly, its true. Kinda like the mostly deaf police dispatcher that got a cop killed. But, the paramedics were fired at least, maybe prosecuted.
I really liked London, if your a native. I studied your criminal justice system over there. Visited Bramshill police academy (very impressive), Pentenville Prison, another prison. We did stay in Mile End/White Chapel, so that was fun.

I'd like to see some sort of proof of this. I live in Texas, and granted Houston is not my favorite city in the Lone Star State, I've spent quite a bit of time there. I never noticed that the corruption or organized crime was anything (relatively speaking) greater than some other large cities. The humidity, on the other hand, is enough to drive anyone crazy.

I saw it yesterday and this is what I thought:
Outrageous!
Then they played it again.. and I wasn't so sure the cop kicked him in the head. One cop gets him down on the ground. Another cop hops on top of him too. Then a 3rd, and the one all the conroversy is about shows up and approaches cautiously then jumps forward all of a sudden. He looks like he is taking a large step forward (which is when everyone is saying the kick happened- I can't tell if he kicked him or not), & then he kneels down and starts swingin with his flashlight... but you can't see at what. Could it be his head? Yes. It could also be his hand because he has something in it. I couldn't tell. Then 3 other cops show up and the fact that the other 3 cops that show up after he starts swinging just stand there says to me that it wasn't a gun in his hand, otherwise wouldn't they have joined in the fray?
I'll wait and see what they report after more of an investigation.
But a few things:
1) it cracks me up when the bad guys make all these cops chase them for freaking miles and then just before they get caught, they stop and act like: It's ok... I give up. And that makes it all ok!! :rollin: If I were a cop, you can bet I would be super pissed if you made me chase you all damn day!
2) Cops are like people, some suck, some don't. But what bothers me is that the ones that suck make the job harder for those that don't every time they do something stupid. Like being a cop isn't hard enough?
3) Don't steal cars.

Pretty much watch the news or talk to emergency personel form here.
Quanell X is a very powerful criminal figure here, just ask any cop.
If you saw the recent contraversy in the crimelab here, organ harvesting was one of the many problems listed.
The K-Mart raid is another thing. Having alot of connections with the CJ field and having a lot of cop friends, you also get an inside view of the corruption.
