I downloaded it today and am using it right now. Would love to hear if anyone else uses and what they think of it!

I use it. Been using it for about 5 months. Love it. Better than infernal exploder.

I love the fact that it has an internal IRC chat built in.

I've been using Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) since version 0.8 came out a couple of months ago. Finally a (free) browser that is at least as fast as Internet Explorer and has some great built-in features (tabbed browsing, popup blocker) and a lot of extensions (http://texturizer.net/firefox/extensions/) to customize the browsing experience.

Is there another browser besides Mozilla? </partial sarcasm>

I've been using Mozilla - not Netscape - for the better part of 2 years, and I find that the browser is without peer. Not Explorer, not Safari (the Apple browser), not Opera, not OmniWeb. The tabbed-browsing, and the clean, non bling-bling shiny interface are the killer feature. Its CSS standards-compliance just drives the whole thing home.

i'm using firefox. my only issue is that the google search bar on the top right seems to have disappeared and i don't know why. the search bar is there, but the google icon is nowhere to be found. another issue i have is the fact that the plug ins i downloaded to support flash don't seem to work.

I stopped using Netscrape after it was announce that there would be no more product updates. Moved over to Mozilla and haven't considered going back since

Netscape had an update a few months ago... to 7.1-something-something. It's what I've been using at home for quite awhile. I hate IE, and Safari (at work) is a bit clunky.

I haven't tried mozilla yet, I just recently started using Netscape 7.1 and I kinda like it, it's a lot quicker to load stuff than IE

Have used Mozilla for about 4 years now. Much better than Uncle Bill's Infernal Exploder. When I got DSL, I went with SBC and IE/Yahoo is the default. They don't fully support too many other's and not Mozilla email. So I use Firefox (Mozilla's standalone browser) to browse and only go into IE to get my email. I love the tab feature. So much easier than all those windows.

i love the tabs too. they clean up your whole taskbar and let you run other things without 4 different windows you have to keep open.

I'm using Mozilla. I was using Firewhatever but the download manager really killed it for me. Mozilla's fine enough.

Currently using a release build, 1.6.

Be careful. This means I officially have to love you now.

Seriously, everybody seems to worship the awful thing - I find it excessive, unintuitive and ... ahnn... slap in another negative buzzword in there, it probably fits. I just dont do that much browser downloading and when I do - it's usually something special and something big, so having separate dialogs that I can keep up with in the taskbar is appealing.

Now, I dont even have that option. =/

the problem i have is that since i have DSL, the download is done before i know it and i don't even get the option of looking at it. with IE, it pops up windows and when it's done downloading it waits there until i choose to look at it. but with firefox, it's like "oh hey, download is done, now i'm going to hide it and not tell you what the name of it is so you have to go look for it"

Thanks for the input everyone! So far I like it. Time will tell. I'm on a dial up and Mozilla seems faster that IE. :D

I just got a Windows XP upgrade on ebay. Now I can get rid of the &*!#% Windows ME. What a piece of crap that is! I've crashed so many times I've lost count!!

with my Windows XP, my computer has had an uptime of 226 days, 23 hours, 42 minutes, x seconds with a total of 854 boots and 26 crashes. The longest uptime was 31 days, 15 hours, 25 minutes and 0 seconds. In that uptime, I didn't have a single crash. That is how long I have had a Windows uptime Manager installed on the computer... not XP. XP has been on this machine for 2 years.

XP is much more stable than any other windows OS that I have used. Not as good as the Mac that I had running for 4 months straight. After about 30 days running, my computer gets a bit buggy.

Eventually, I suppose I will switch to mozilla, but Netscape 7.1 is more than good enough for now. I'm happy with it. I've always, and I mean ALWAYS, avoided using IE whenever I could. I still have it on my iMac, but only because there are a few sites that don't like Netscape. If I ever upgrade to OSX, I will try Safari, I hear they've got most of the bugs out now, but I'll probably still use Mozilla for most surfing in that nebulous future time...

Go to Tools, Downloads, Options. The default is to automatically close the window when downloading. You can change that. Also, the default is to save all files in the Desktop Folder. You can change that, or there's an option to have it ask you where you want to save the file each time you download.

I've never had the Google icon disappear, but sometimes the icon next to the URL disappears. Minor bugs compared to IE though.

You can also install the extension Googlebar (http://googlebar.mozdev.org/). Has even more options than the original Google Toolbar for IE. It's IMO much better than the simple textbox.

I think I'll try it out. I use Netscape alot now. It is kind of weird that people keep saying they love the tabs, because Netscape has tabs, too. Since it's made by the same people, I'm sure it'll be a smooth transisiton. Are they phasing out Netscape all together and pushing Mozilla?

Third EYe

netscape is AOL and Mozilla is what use to be Netscape. I think. They sold Netscape, then some of the dudes decided to make Mozilla, they weren't happy about the sale.

mozilla roadmap (http://mozilla.org/roadmap.html)

BaseLine

In January 1998, Netscape made an announcement that their browser would thereafter be free, and also that the development of the browser would move to an open-source process. Thus the Mozilla project started. But the time between this announcement, and the actual delivery of Mozilla 1.0 would be a long road (over 4 years.) The process ended up taking much longer than originally anticipated, what with the Netscape/AOL merger and the late-hour decision to integrate an entirely new next-generation HTML rendering engine.

Nowadays AOL/Netscape take a slightly older version of Mozilla and then adapt it to suit their needs.

another example of why open source projects are often the most innovative. cause someone, somewhere, is going to find a better way to do something. and there isn't a greedy corporation breathing down your neck, telling you to stop intruding.

funny because i just watched the screen savers on g4 (blegh) yesterday, and they hacked a replay tv system to give it a second hard drive that you normally would have to pay 170 bucks extra for. it's stuff like that, that proves that people can still be innovative.
