Just dropping a note saying we've had a blast today on day 1 of the Boston Con and that we wish you were all there with us :).

I think some of the folks got a wee bit tipsy tonight actually, lol.
We had a power outage at one of our locations in boston that has 45 servers in it so I had to leave a bit early to go fixor things :(

Need input! Need more input!!! We had a blast today just does not cut it!
We want the rest of the report!!! Where is it??? We want to hear the nitty gritty, the dirt, the shenanigans, the highs and the lows ... all of it, without anything trivial or important getting missed!

Umm... (draws blank), lol.
Well, we had a couple of hours of meet and greet time where we got to know one another and there were some partially informal discussions. I missed some of that as I was in the other room listening to the travel tales of Virginia Hey. She was regailing us with stories of fans accosting her in the bathroom with video cameras and more. It was really great.
We talked for awhile about the savefarscape campaign and things people can do. It was quite astonishing how few people there are regulars on FMD. The only person I have met from FMD yet is Jen10122, who is a sweet young woman :). There have been a few others who say they are here infrequently (who would have thought such a thing could happen).
The banquet was pushed to this evening, so we were ushered out into the halls while the tables were set up and food was readied (which took like 2 hours, lol) and so everyone gathered round for some group photos. Not everyone was in them, but it was a good sampling. We talked more about just about everything and then had our dinner together.
Afterwhich we watched the first EP of LGM and then I had to split. I'll find my digital camera and toss up some of the pics.

I just got home and can confirm that a good time was had by all. Ginny is an amazing woman. Besides being beautiful, she is incredibly friendly. She treats everyone as if they are a long lost friend. Met some nice people who do not frequent this board, or only lurk. The only bad thing I can say is that it started raining just as I left for the train home. Got soaked to the bone, and then missed my train. While sitting on a milk crate outside the train station having a cigarette while waiting for the next train someone tried to give me their loose change. Guh.

i hear the Beverly Hills homeless are well taken care of, they have thier own condos.
I was leaving Boston Gardens one night, (not the fleet center, the Gardens) i went with some friends to see a Bruins VS Montreal (Montreal won!). They had driven down from NH, I had been in Braintree with my step brother so I took the train in. I had to take the train back. (made sense at the time, almost does now)
I was really drunk, really really drunk. I usually was those days. I have very little recolection of what happened after I walked to the trains, but i know where i woke up.
I woke up in Jamaica Plains.

Getting drunk and falling asleep on the train is not fun, especially when you've taken the last train out of town and wind up 15-20 miles from home and have to call a relative at 1 AM to come pick you up.

There's this guy that staggers around town, saying:
Heeey guuuuuys, can you spaaaaarrrre some chaaaaannnnnge? Can an-y-bod-y spare some chhhhaaaaannnge?
He got onto the train the other day and asked every single person
Sir, can you spaaaare some chaaaaange?
Miss, can you spaaaare some chaaaange?
Does an-y-bod-y have a cig-ar-ette?
One time I offered him some orange juice, but he said
Nnnnooooooo.
He's usually around the Park Street Station, but I've seen him as far away as Harvard Square.

I'm bummed! I missed yesterday because I was under the weather with allergy/asthma problems. I thought I'd feel well enough to get down today, but it's not going to happen. I'm popping benedryl like candy!
I was so looking forward to meeting Farscape fan folk and also meeting Ginny!
Oh well, if this con goes well there's always hope for another one next year.
As for the scary trains and stations. I was once on the Green Line - C train and there was a man dressed in a bathrobe who was carrying a scycle - it wasn't Halloween. I was with a friend and it was the last train of the night and it was very crowded. My friend said not to pay any attenion to the guy, he was on the train all the time!
It was just plain bizarre!
Another time I was on the D Line that was going into Brookline and the train hit a car that pulled in front of it. All of us that were standing went down like dominoes!

what do you take for your asthma? Are you on albuterol or a steroidal inhaler? You may want to consider getting allergy shots. Before I was laid off, I was in the process of getting monthly allergy shots to lower the affect of my asthma. Since 90% of all asthma attacks are allergy based... getting rid of your allergy symptons will help lower the frequency of attacks

No one figured out who you guys were?? That's odd! They were probably hung over or something!
what do you take for your asthma? Are you on albuterol or a steroidal inhaler? You may want to consider getting allergy shots.
I have two inhalers - one steroid and one not. I don't usually get the asthma part. (Although I was a severe asthmatic as a child). Its just chonic allergies and sinusitis. This time I'm sneezing and my eyes are all watery and puffed up. I'm not a pretty picture - not that I ever was one to begin with!
I've been through 4 series of shots in my lifetime from different allergists. One as a child and three as an adult. If I had known I was going to be so bad these last few days I would have gone to the Dr. and gotten some prednisone to knock it out of my system. It came on little by little this week until I was miserable by Thursday. I still may have to get some prednisone on Monday to stop this crap!
If I had been proactive, maybe I could have gone to the con. So there's a lesson for you all - be proactive!

I'm sure others will have lots to say, but for me it was another very good day. Started at 10 with the "how to make a music video" presentation, which was very cool, if a little daunting. I never realized how much went into it, and am now more impressed than ever with those who can do it.
The "women in sci-fi" panel was excellent. Characters as diverse as Electra Woman and Dyna Girl (sp) to Katherine Janeway were discussed.
Later in the day the Penny Lane charity auction was held, and was a hoot. Lots of spirited bidding, especially on the Farscape quilt (finally won by Zhannfan for something like $165), the plush John Crichton doll (can't remember who finally won that) and plush Zhaan and D'argo dolls made by the BostonScapers own Herdthinner:
http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24647
I was so impressed that I asked HT to make me a Rygel. I wasn't the only one.
There was also a small controversy as Cretkid broke away from the Boston Beer Party group and bid against the group for a set of S3 and S4 trading cards, four of which were signed. One of the cards was signed by Murray Bartlett, who played DK. I can't remember who the others were singed by.
And finally we had the fabulous Miss Hey, whose Q&A session turned into what I like to think of as THE VIRGINIA MONOLOGUES. She regaled us with incredible and often hilarious stories about the show, the people who she worked with on FS, auditioning in America, being told she's too old (Never! She's got more wit, charm brains and beauty than most of the women in hollywood who are making millions on looks alone), being an Aussie in America, and the wonderful, wacky, and sometimes odd (who, us?) people she's met along the way.
A group of Scapers is now in Harvard Square, watching the midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Some of them are RHPS virgins, and I dearly hope they get "outed" by the rest of the group :elol: Hey, you're only a virgin once. :ewink: Sadly I was unable to attend, as I had to make my way to the train with my tin cup so I could make enough money to get home.
Thus endeth another good day, and this report.

I don't have any food allergies, but with the skin tests I've had for all the other goodies, I've reacted to everything - even cockroaches! (It's the dust of their dung that people react to and it gets into the air systems of big old buildings.) Grasses, molds, trees, dust, etc. But not cats or dogs.
Don't have to worry about cockroaches in Maine, but they are a problem in the city. So it was addressed when I lived in Boston by having cockroaches included in the sera I recieved. It grossed me out!

Thought I'd check in and give y'all a run down on my (our) experience at the Escapade in Boston this weekend.
I (we) had a great time. Yah, we were a bit timid in approaching people, but quite a few people were more then willing to extend a hand and say hello - which was something we had been dreading prior to going to this fan run con.
When I say WE, I'm speaking for the wife and I, just FYI.
I had a few conversations with Digger - great guy - If I knew he needed change for the train, I'd have dropped a few coins in the tin cup for him :P
Spent some time talking to Andrea and Ruth (Ruth being a member from the UK scapers) - they were both pretty fantastic people.
Another couple up from CT was off the hook, really. They were fun and generous with their time - I can't even begin to pronounce the lady in questions' screenname - but she is the one who donated her custom jewelery creations for the penny lane auctions.
Speaking of the auctions - Zhaanfan and the Black and Red crews' bidding war on the handcrafted quilt was a highlight - I was choking down my laughter in the back row. Great to see some fun competition between Scapers. Speaking of competition - Andrea snatched the glass sea bead necklace from under my nose in the auction ;/
We didn't make it out to the RHPS show - although we were considering going. We actually went down the street to see the Blue Man Group, and got pretty toasted at the bar inside the theater.
We're looking forward to next years Escapade, if y'all decide to do another one - we'll definitely pre-register and pre-book the weekend.
To those we didn't have a chance to talk to - it was a busy weekend between exploring Boston and trying to get back in time for key "programming" moments - so hopefully we can take Digger up on his offer and meet some of you locals at a viewing party sometime this summer.

At the beginning of the Q&A, Virginia Hey asked us if we knew the song Downtown. I knew it because it always reminded me of Short Circuit 2 when the indian guy and Lenny from Lavern and Shirley were stuck in the meat locker. And they used the dial tone to play songs so that chick would know where to find them. Help me, Ronda. Help help me Ronda. They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway...on Broadway...and then Johnny 5 goes all Mad Max cause Oscar tried to kill him.
Anyway, she handed out a sheet with a parody song called Moya set to the tune of Downtown. She asked us to practice it and sing it while she went to the loo. I've been humming that damn song all weekend. And saying "loo."

That's weird, that's what I always think of when I think of that song too...

So did she tell you what going to the loo was? Or are you still trying to work it out?

I know what a loo is...I watch PBS.
She also told some loo stories, like when she was sitting down and all of the sudden a video camera poked out from under the stall door.
