View Full Version : Dreamwatch - Rockne, Gigi and Wayne! - no spoilers

Dreamwatch 119 has a huge feature on The Peacekeeper Wars, with interviews with Rockne O'Bannon, Gigi Edgely, and Wayne Pygram.

Here are a few of the goodies - nothing spoiler-ish, but some hinting (so turn back now if you're hint-averse):

Rockne says:

It's going to be a really big epic saga ... The tale of Farscape as a television series was always very big in scope, and we were always very proud of what we could achieve in an hourly series on a weekly basis. But in this case, we've got a four-hour mini-series and all the stops have been let out! So when I use the words epic and saga I'm not overstating it - this is a really big story that takes place in the really big universe the series has always taken place in.

The miniseries is going to be huge. The scale of what we're doing in the four hours is going to be bigger than anything the series was able to accomplish. And in terms of emotions, everything's heightened because of what is at stake.

When asked for spoilers:

I'm very excited about what we've got, and I'd much rather have people see it for themselves than have me try to give people hints or describe what people are going to see ... I think everyone will be satisfied when they see all the twists and turns.

In some regards, the mini-series is what would have played in season five, but in a much more condensed version. That makes it that much more intense, fast paced and highly charged. If we had played the story out over the entire fifth season, over 22 hours, there would be aspects that would have been more detailed, but I don't think you're really missing anything in the four-hour version.

It's not a climax or resolution to the story ... It's a resolution for the time being to the tale and these characters.

Gigi says:

Probably one of the most amazing gifts that I've ever received in my life was an opportunity to come and play with Chiana again.

Going back to Homebush, I went into the driveway and said, 'This is gonna rock!' It certainly did rock, in ways I'd never expected.

It will rock people's souls ... It certainly rocks the characters. It will test the bravest of hearts and will bring out many interesting colours.

There was something very different in Chiana this time around, something that affected my work as an actor.

Wayne says:

In some ways it's like a 'best of Farscape' ... We have lots of shoot-'em-ups and lots of poignant moments, etc. etc. It's not a deliberate thing, but, nonetheless, there are elements of everything we've done.

There is closure with some storylines from the past, but then there's new stories to be told. Other things happen as a consequence of closure, and you're left wondering what if, in the future, such and such occurs. It opens another little Pandora's Box of potential storylines and outcomes.

He mentions (as he has in previous interviews) his worries that Scorpius's storyline and purpose in s4 weren't clear, but hints that a scene in the mini addresses this:

I get a scene that I would call a Scorpius scene, which was basically an invented scene I asked for which we then reshaped on the day. It gives us some clarity as to what he's actually up to ...

I didn't make it any easier by putting pressure on myself ... I was thinking, 'We've been given this fabulous opportunity to finish Farscape. You better make it good!'

We have some terrific Harvey scenes. Two in particular are pretty fabulous. There's one touching and moving Harvey scene, and a number of silly ones.

I'm out of the loop. What's Dreamwatch 119? A Mag?

Dreamwatch is a UK scifi tv/film magazine. The issue number is 119.

Very awesome. I'm glad for Wayne, I know he's really wanted a finalized explanation as to what Scorpius really is in terms of character for a while, and whatnot.

I'll bet ||Scorpius|| is pulling his hair out in anticipation. All his theories about the character will finally (hopefully) be proven or disproven. Can't wait!

Hey Antrobus you can get Dreamwatch at Barnes and Noble at least in my area that is. RydraWong of will get it before us because she is in the UK. I just bought issue #118 yesterday so it will probably be the end of July before we get it here. How long was the article RydraWong and did it have any pics old or new at all? Thanks for your post as always.

Fyi: In Dreamwatch #118 It mentions that in a short article entitled "Farscape Creator Enters Triangle" that "Farscape creator Rockne S. O'Bannon has been hired to script the US SCI FI Channel's new mini-series Triangle." It's supposed to be about the Bermuda Triangle. I didn't see any info on the min in this issue though. This was a short quarter page article on page 17 in the newswatch section.

RydraWong
07-03-2004, 09:52 AM
The article covers 7 pages, and has lots of the new promo photos.

The magazine also mentioned that there'll be more behind-the-scenes coverage of the miniseries in the next issue.

Thank you for the info RydraWong. I just saw something perhaps you already know in the UK but I was surfing the SFX website and looked at the info for their issue available in the UK July 6 and it said there will be Farscape mini pics in issue 120. I can't wait. I will probably be mid or late August for us here.

Thanks so much for posting the details RydraWong! :D It just keeps sounding better and better. It's good to know that Rockne doesn't think 'Season 5' as the miniseries doesn't suffer because it's only 4 hours long.

i wonder if the triangle could have anything to do with the darnes triangle (sorry for possible bad spelling) that would explain how joolz could be in the mini?

RydraWong

No, that's a completely separate series, about the Bermuda triangle, nothing to do with the Farscape miniseries.

Whether the priests on Arnessk are relevant to the mini, we don't know, but there has been much hypothesizing.

Except for Wayne's interview, it doesn't sound like this is gonna be an end-all for FS. There was talk of new mysteries, etc. I think Wayne was talking about his character more than the series as a whole. Sounds like good news to me!! I'm ready.

scaperbuddy
07-04-2004, 06:44 AM
RydraWong is correct that article is about Rockne working on a totally different project that has nothing to do with Farscape. Sorry for the confusion leeturnbull. The Bermuda Triangle project he is working on is about a place where ships have been known to disappear.

RydraWong are you going to buy SFX #120 when it comes out? I saw it is supposed to have mini pics in it. I don't know about an article though the website didn't say.

Doesn't sound like it's necessarily an end-all for Wayne, either - he says that "In my mind, we've given it closure" but that if Farscape does continue after the miniseries "I certainly would always want to do Scorpius. I wouldn't want anyone else to be walking around in that costume. It's mine!"

And in the Rockne interview, he actually discusses whether, if they get the chance, he'd prefer to see the show continued with a movie or on TV, with another miniseries or spin-off series.

It really sounds from the sort of things they've all been saying as if they've got the best of both worlds - a really strong finish to this era of Farscape, to give everyone a sense of closure, but with lots of room to start a "new chapter" if they get the chance later on.

I hope in the new chapter that all of the characters get to come back not just John and Aeryn. I like John and Aeryn but I like everyone else as well. They all add that special flavor to the show.

I hope in the new chapter that all of the characters get to come back not just John and Aeryn. I like John and Aeryn but I like everyone else as well. They all add that special flavor to the show.

It's the interaction of all the characters that gives FS a special appeal to me. That's an integral part of the story. Just like real life, they seem to talk about deceased characters, too. That's how people really do act when they lose a friend or something.

scaperbuddy
07-05-2004, 04:09 AM
I would really miss the characters if they took more of them off the show. I agree with you Boron it's the character interaction between all of the that helps make the show special to me as well.

I just hope if they do a spin off they don't get rid of alot of the characters and make it about just two of them for example. I like all of the characters together not split apart. Together the Moya crew just creates that special chemistry when they go on a mission or they solve a crisis together as each of them is a part that comes together to form the whole.

Boron
07-05-2004, 04:13 AM
That's right. That's the only thing that worries me about a spin-off. I don't want to lose anybody either. They will probably come up with some neat new characters if a spin-off does come out, tho.

scaperbuddy
07-05-2004, 04:21 AM
I'm sure that they would come up with some neat new characters and I would as always watch the show but I would hold the old characters dear to my heart and miss them. I know some of the actors have new commitments now such as Gigi.

There have have been rumors. I will quote the June 13th-19th 2004 TV Guide pg 45

S P O I L E R

The article mentioned some spoilers and here is one of them and I quote, "Dearly departed Zhaan (Virginia Hey), the much-missed blue priestess, may resurface." That was the only Zhaan spoiler in the article. I have been hearing other things but this is a direct quote as I have the TV Guide right in front of me as I am writing this. No pics of Zhaan though. Sound encouraging?

Oh, boy, I worked nights for many years, and trained myself to sleep in the daytime. Now, every now and then, I take a spell of staying up all night. This time I haven't been able to break it yet, But tomorrow I have to go to Nashville, and I'll be up all day whether I like it or not. That will probably straighten me out for a while.
I even started a thread to have someone to talk to at night. A lot of people were staying up, I was surprised.

scaperbuddy
07-05-2004, 06:56 AM
I used to live outside of Nashville for many years in a city called Clarksville, Tn. I worked in Nashville in a large hospital. I see that alot of people stay of late. I look at the time the posts. I wonder though what time it is overseas when the people from other countries are posting where they are.

Boron
07-05-2004, 07:05 AM
Shoot, Clarksville is just down Hwy 79 a ways. There are a lot of big Hospitals in Nashville, I am going to the big VA hospital there. My mother was in and out of Vanderbilt for many years, and my sister was at St. Thomas.

When we are up at night, it's like morning and afternoon in other countries. I talked to people from Britain, Finland and Germany and Australia last night. That amazes me when I think of it.

I didn't know that was there. I had to go there for a business trip once. I wish I has seen that. In our state capitol here in Virginia there is a conferate monument in the middle of a street called Monument Ave in Richmond, Va. I think there are other monuments on that road as well.

There is alot of history in Richmond that is for sure. Are you planning to buy the next couple of issues of Dreamwatch when they come out? There is supposed to info on the mini when they come out. Issue #118 is out here in the states now but #119 and #120 are supposed to have stuff in it too. I also know that SFX #120 comes out in the UK July 6th. I hope RydraWong gives us a preview as always. I hope I find some more spoilers on Zhaan. The one I told you about is the only confirmed one I saw.

I've seen alot of ones about the other characters. I've been calling the stores to ask when the mags have come in. I think they are tired of me. It is a long drive from here. That is why I call first.

Boron
07-05-2004, 08:18 AM

07-05-2004, 08:50 AM
Up until about a year ago I was too. This is a small area. I drive 25 miles to the nearest sort of decent mall. They just built a Barnes and Noble about a year ago and I discovered British import magazines. I was snooping around the racks and I found a mag that was doing a Farscape special. So ever since then I've been scoping the racks and looking and the mags website.

Some examples of British sci-fi mags are Starburst, SFX, TV Zone, Dreamwatch, Cult Times etc. The folks in the UK always get the issue about 4-6 weeks before we do in the US. There are folks here on the board like RydraWong who post the parts of the article or article quotes for us to read you have to search the board. Hats off to those nice people as they get the mags first! :aok: Alot of mini stuff is soon to come out in the mags. I know I will be buying!

Someone did a special just on Spiderman 2 and Shrek 2. It could happen for the Farscape mini as well.

Hypothetically, you're absolutely correct. But remember -- those are media spotlights and the general populace is familar with both because of how constantly advertised both have been in the past. Farscape, on the other hand, is a huge cult show, and thus there might not be enough general populace to turn their heads -- or rather, there would be, but TPTB might not want to bother trying. Then again, if it's Kemper and O'Bannon I could see them doing it for the fans anyway, and it'd be a huge promotion concept. After all... there was a Farscape official magazine right till the last.
