Please help us to protect Farscape honor!

Dear friends,
I beg for your help to protect our beloved show. In my country there is a big board, just like FMD, where everyone can speak on different topics/ from software to movies/, posting links, informing for updates and so on. There we have a Farscape thread /of course /and it’s very popular, but it was invaded by Lexx fans stating that Lexx is better then FS. Latter a new thread was created, called LEXX vr. Farscape and now a real war started in there. All Bulgarian FS fans are very tolerant and never offended any other show with statement like this. We believe that every one have a right to make a choice in what to watch and like and never try to convince other people that our show is the greatest there is and everything else is rubbish. We simply enjoy each others company and many people come to write in our thread, saying “How nice to see so many Fs fans, I thought I was the only one watching the show, wow, but you are so many!”
But now this conflict is unequal because we have seen only the 4 movies /season 1/ of Lexx and we are unable to protect our show with good arguments and we have to bear Lexx-ans insults like: “FS is 50 % Lexx and 30% from other shows”, “Farscape writers are cowards because they didn’t have guts to make something more original and incredible” or “DK and the others stole the ideas like “the leaving ship” from Lexx!”, “ The actors in Lexx are better then those in FS” and so on. And my Scaper blood boils every time, because I can’t do anything about it. So please help us and please do it with arguments, ratings or whatever there is! We want to protect our show with dignity unlike others - using arrogance as a weapon. When I said that to our opponents the answer was “I’m sorry if I have been arrogant or rude, but I’m always getting excited when I’m winning a dispute” They should not win this dispute, because it isn’t a fair fight.
I know that all this may sound childish in a way and at some point I think it is and I would probably never start arguing with the Lexx-ans, but when my friends are insulted I would like to do all I can to protect them. If the Lexx-ans were worthy opponents it would have been a pleasure to have a friendly quarrel, but they aren’t! It is sad!

If there are Lexx Fans here I wish to apologize if this thread is offensive for you. Our intention is not to insult Lexx, we have nothing against it, but to protect our FS in this unequal debate and to prove that it’s not just a cheap entertainment and another soap opera! It is a question of honor!

I don't like Lexx but I won't pick on those fans though I respect their right to their show. The problem being is they need to respect the right for the Farscape fans to like and enjoy their show as well. I feel for you. Sometimes people really aren't nice.

There is nothing we can do, or are willing to do, to help, other than offer advice.

Ignore them. Lexx is a good show, I've watched a bit of it myself. And it is true that Lexx did the living ship thing before Farscape, but the living ship thing has also been done by several other things before, way way back.

This is not a question of honour, but simply whether you can tolerate them. If you go to the Dom they've had their fair share of events like this, and the only solution is to ignore them. If they are true fans of Lexx and sci-fi in general they'll know that a show doesn't have to be original to be good. If they are trolls, as most people probably think they are, then replying would simply cause them to bother you more.

My advice - ignore them. You're there to talk about Farscape, not engage in a flame war.

Maybe the FS fans should just all post separatly and say that no matter what is said, They love FS and prefer it over Lexx. Nothing that can be said will sway our position.

Myself, I was a Lexx fan before I found FS. FS just blew Lexx clear out of the water as far as I'm concerned. They are two different types of Science fiction shows. Lexx was more an irrevrant dark comedy, and FS was truly a Space drama, with more of a continuing story and character development. Hang in there, Buddy!!!

If these people are deliberately looking for a fight, then they're not open to being convinced by rational argument.

And if they invade your thread to insult you, then they're trolls. Don't let them trick you into "feeding" them by reacting.

You can show more dignity and "honor" by not letting yourselves be baited into reacting.

Thank you guys for answering so quickly and for all your advices. At first we didn’t respond to their insults, most of us told them that we have chosen to watch FS and have no intention to change our taste at the last minute. As I wrote earlier we had no interest to fight with any of the other fans but they started insulting not only our show but us as well, so I believe this was the last drop. And those guys continuously bothering us using our ignorance about Lexx against us and they torment us not only in our board but in our Irc channels, so now the only thing we want is to make them stop. I feel quite uncomfortable that I ended up asking you guys for advice, but we’ve tried everything.

If you react then you will give them what they want. Act like they aren't getting your goat and hopefully they will stop. If you get nasty back, they will have won and will keep at it.

Yes, a response along these lines is good: "I'm glad you found a show to love in Lexx! While I prefer Farscape, isn't it great that we've got both shows?"

If you don't lower yourself to their level, either they'll give up, or you'll clearly demonstrate that you're the rational and mature ones.

Sorry not to be one of the rational and mature ones, and my apologies to Lexx fans, but I don't get it. I have no interest in getting into a pissing contest with them, but in my opinion it would be like convincing a die-hard Land of the Lost fan that Jurassic Park is a better dinosaur movie. They're two completely different things.
Lexx always struck me as a bad Red Dwarf rip-off without the humor.

I agree with what the others have said. Don't stoop down to their level. Sounds like they are baiting the FS fans into a name calling contest, which solves nothing and no one can win. We Scapers are known for our high ideals and friendliness. It is completely acceptable for them to enjoy Lexx as much as it is for you to enjoy Farscape. Why should there be a "war" between us? Be polite and ask them to stop trying to pick a fight because there is nothing to fight about! They are welcome to have their own opinion about Farscape, it's just not one that you agree with....end of story. There is an old saying here in the US: "You can catch more flies with sugar than with vinegar". If they still insist on being pests, try putting them on your ignore list or try getting in touch with the room monitor.

Can you deflect the attention of the LEXX trolls? When they say Farscape is a cheap rip-off, just switch the subject and reply with something like "Did you see Spiderman 2 yet?" Try to get them off the subject. It will give you a better idea of whether they are trolls or just over-the-top passionate.

If it was me in this situation, my first reaction would be to defend Farscape. But once you realize they are not interested in a conversation, but just being rude, there is reallly nothing more to say to them. After all, you wouldn't sit at your computer for hours talking to a blank screen. That is what they are. Be patient. And when they realize you don't care about them, they'll leave. Hopefully.
