View Full Version : Someone PLEASE Tell me a Decent Story!!

I am going nuts and here's my rant...

I am desparate for a good story told... I have over 30 hours of Farscape on the TiVo and I watch 1-2/day when I watch TV; but I would REALLY like to feel more well-rounded and have something else to watch, too. I am getting DESPARATE and there really is nothing but re-runs and misc. Dren on this summer. Can you tell me about something new that I've missed???

Here's My Humble Reviews of this summer's TV(not in any particular order)
1. Amazing Race: Have you seen this? I thought the Boy and I would like to watch this together. He's lost all respect for me. The spousal unit nearly fell out of his chair laughing (and not in a good way)
2. Criminal Intent: How many times can I guess who did it? EVERY time! Just give me 10 minutes.
3. Dead Zone: It's OK. I watch it. I just don't care. (Sometimes I feel that insulin is requred.)
4. 4400: This is how desparate we've become. This is almost abominable. I don't know what this needs...except IMAGINATION. Of course, they're gonna have creepy supernatural powers. The little girl will be the creepiest, of course. The two investigators will fall in love, yada, yada.
5. Last Comic Standing: ???
6. Tough Crowd w/Colin Quinn: Sometimes funny, but mostly mean; a poor man's Politically Incorrect
7. Monk: Love it! I guess I know too many crazy people.
8. Without a Trace: I have problems watching kids disappear since I became a Mom
9. Good Eats: This is a new find on the Food Channel. A cool show...but not a STORY.

I try to catch the repeats of the shows I've missed:
Joan of A
Smallville
Cold Case
Life with Bonnie (truly Inspired)
Enterprise (yes...I know...)
West Wing (too frustrating, knowing that these people really aren't in power and we're all just living in a fantasy world)
Seinfeld (yep, all repeats, but the Boy is seeing them for the first time. We skip "The Contest." Too much 'splainin' at this age for me to deal with)
WHERE THE FRELL IS KEEN EDDIE when you need him

So, I've resorted to:
Monty Python's Flying Circus (live in the past)
America's Funniest Animals (for the Boy)
Queer Eye

These, my scapers, are NOT stories. Let's find some good summer stories...

BTW: I also read. A truly Fantastic Story is "The Time Traveler's Wife" I was sad when it ended.

OK... So I saw this show in Israel last month. It was on in the middle of the night; on Fridays. I can't find it here. I've put it on my wishlist, put Malcolm Jamal Warner on the wishlist; etc. Frankly, it's not that good either. The acting is really b-a-d and everyone seems a bit over wrought. But, it IS a story. Maybe it's only on in Canada now.

Sorry, for me it's more embarassing than actually funny or with a good story.

I'm not much fun, am I? ;)

try McEnroe on CNBC. i'm on the east coast so i don't know if it applies to you...but McEnroe has found to be fairly entertaining. Sure it's a talk show...but it's witty banter.

Well poop. Don't get Showtime. I guess that's why I don't see 6 Feet Under either.

I"ll check this out, even tho the Spousal Unit (a former teaching tennis pro) Hates the guy. That may make it more interesting...hmmm

I reccomend the anime "Metropolis" It's a movie, it's got great music and animation and it's an adaptation of the Fritz Lang novel by the godfather of Anime himself, the late Osamu Tezuka, I also reccomend the works of Hayao Miyazaki or if anime isn't your thing there's always Kevin Smith's "View Askew" series (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob strike back)

hey i have Dogma on dvd. the special edition too! i won't pay 14.99 for Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy, so i'm patiently waiting until they lower in price. i also want the Clerks Animated Series. I'm looking around on google for JaSBSB's rap at the beginning...so far, no luck.

you know what i think is nice? that on viewaskew.com kevin smith announces when his jersey girl dvd will be released, and then tells everyone that a special edition will be out later. the guy doesn't pull at LOTR! he's like "one edition will come out ______, but a special edition will be out later" so i'm definitely waiting for the special edition.

nah, probably DeepDiscountDvd for me.

I have been boycotting BestBuy when they refused to release one of the FarScape DVD's on the day it was released because there was a mixup in their paperwork.

has anyone ever seen "the Prisoner"?

it's an amazing 17-episode series from 1967, and it's out on DVD, and you should be able to rent it at your local video store.

it is an Ideal series to watch for Farscape fans,
an absolute must see.

Marandken, I recommend you get Cartoon Network and watch Toonami & Adult Swim.

Anime and cartoons like Megas XLR and Futurama ROCK!!!!

I'm not gonna be much help because the only TV i have time to watch is The Graham Norton Effect on Comedy Central, Good Eats when I can catch it and reruns of Futurama.

Mostly, I read:
Try Terry Pratchett (for comedy) or P.C. Hodgell (for drama). Both tell a great story.

My Spousal Unit just found it broadcasting again on Tivo so we're gonna start watching it. I don't think it ever "ended". Like, you never really know what is what with that. We're gonna show it to the boy and scare the crap out of him with that killer beach ball! (We're such good parents :D )
