One time somebody tried to sell me beef out of the trunk of their car.

I could see people doing this back in the 30s, but I don't understand why they would still do it today.

We always used to buy cheese directly from a cheese factory. It was really good. Way better than most of the packaged cheese you'll find in the supermarket. Unfortunately it was closed down a few years ago.

:yuck: I can think of, like, a million puns for this. But I'm just going to keep my mouth shut...

Doesn't surprise me that this is happening in San Diego Co. I think it's happening here because stuff is so expensive and people can barely afford to live and this is just a really good deal, too good a deal. Honestly, I have little sympathy for those that get sick because they were dumb enough to buy cheese from someone like this.

i have no sympathy either. i mean, cheese is not one of the vital things in life in order to survive. clean water, vegetables, bread, vitamins...those probably are, if you don't have enough money for other things like premium red meat. buying cheap, bacteria infested cheese is no excuse.

This has nothing to do with "bathtub cheese", but this reminds me of a comedy called "Chef!". No, it's not a Southpark spinoff. Though the title character is black.

In order to impress a restaurant critic, the title character has formulated a special meal. The only thing he's lacking is a block of unpasteurized Stilton. The thread title brought that show instantly to mind. Hmmm...I gotta see if I can get that on DVD.

"There can be serious health consequences if unpasteurized cheese is consumed," said Dr. Michele Ginsberg, the county's chief of epidemiology.Raw milk cheeses are not dangerous when they are made in good conditions.
I ate them all the time.
Listeria is a bacteria that is always present. That's when the amount is to high that is become dangerous for some category of people.
Of course I wouldn't try to eat cheese made by someone who is not a professional.

I do that sometime. Buy directly cheese to some small producers. Cheaper and better.
And nice people to talk to ;)

That's what I used to do with my beer. The owner of one of the breweries was a really great guy. It always took us about half an hour to buy the beer.

Sadly, I've never lived anywhere near a dairy, though that would be very, very cool
