View Full Version : A very big day for me
Tomorrow is a HUGE day for me. I am hanging 10 of my paintings (well, really mixed media) in a local art gallery. This is the first time I've ever had a show of all my own work, and the gallery owner likes my works so much, he chose to have my show to coincide with the local "art walk"! OMG, I have not been nervous until.....right NOW! A couple of my pieces are extremely personal, so I don't know how it's going to be for other people, strangers to look at those things. This is an amazing dream for me, I almost feel like the rest of my life begins tomorrow. One thing that I keep thinking about is, if I sell just 3 of my works, I can pay off my (smallish) debt and go back into debt buying a new car........but if I sell those three, then I wont have them anymore, and I really LOVE them. I almost feel like pulling an Okeeffe and puting a clause in the contract stipulating that all artwork must be returned to either me or my estate upon the death of the buyer. LOL, as if I had that much moxie! After it gets hung, and the pictures put on the website, I will put the URL here. Wish me luck yall. :D

I'm glad this is working out for you. My mother was an art teacher for many years till she retired. Getting recognized for you talent has a lot more to it than just being very good. A lot of great artists don't get half the recognition they deserve, because they often lack the confidence, charisma and social skills which are necessary for opening yourself up to the public. I heartily congratulate you on possession of all four! I hope this lead towards a bigger expansion for your portfolio and that it opens up more opportunities for you too. :aok:
BTW, we have a nice art gallery crawl in Charlotte too. Maybe you should check it out next time.

Good Luck!
I can relate to how nerve wracking this kind of thing is. Kind of like when I used to do piano recitals. You work and work and try to make the art come alive and speak out, and then hope that in the end you've accomplished just that!
Once you get a compliment or two you'll relax and feel fine!!

Woo Yay Zapgun...Congratulations and best of luck...... :)
So, my opening was tonight. It's been raining pretty hard here for a couple days now......and there have been some tornados around......and it's Friday the 13th. Besides my family, and some of my friends, 5 or 6 strangers wandered in and checked my stuff out. It was fine, and my art stays up there until the end of the month.
Now, I get along real well with the owner of this gallery, and he wants to book me in again around the end of the year, to direct a play. I'm very excited about that, very. I have a play in mind I really want to do, I just need to get in touch with the playwright.......I've never produced a play before, so that's a new and exciting adventure! Now I'm thinking, if I can't do the play I want to do..........I wonder if any of the Farscape fic writers out there would be willing to work on a Farscape play? I'm goning to mull this over, and I may be posting more on this. If anyone reads this, and thinks this might be do-able, if a wholly original Farscape play can be legally produced, I'm ALL ABOUT IT. I know a womon did a Xena play a few years back, and it was an original play, legally produced. Anyway, things to think about.
Thanks all yall who posted to this thread earlier. I know I promised an url, but ya gotta wait for it, sorry. I am officially on vacation for a few days now, so I'll prolly have the pics of my painitngs up somewhere in the next few. Oh yeah, I'm going to see the Dead Tuesday too, so yeeHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!! :D

I like the redwall the best. "it speaks to me"
I don't think it matters if the art is really any good, and each one of us judge what's good art diferently, getting rid of something you created with your own hands and mind is gonna be dificult.
I think you got talent there zapgun. Keep doing it.
