i wonder how long all of these people are going to live.

Italy's Mr and Mrs Oversize

A 30-stone woman and 32-stone man have been crowned Italy's Mr and Mrs 'Over Size' in a beauty pageant aimed at making people feel better about being overweight.

More than 5,000 people turned up to see Giovanna Guidoni named Mrs Over Size and Fabio Teseo Mr Over Size at the contest in Forcoli near Pisa.

Eight men and 38 women from across the country came to the pageant, but only women weighing more than 16 stone and men over 23 stone could enter.

Gianfranco Lazzereschi, founder of the pageant which is in its 15th year, told Italian media: "Our contest shows that big people are beautiful as well."

and for your information....1 stone is 14 lbs. so the minimum weight to enter is 224 lbs. for women and 322 lbs. for men. the winners were 420 lbs. and 448 lbs.

:blindfold:

And that's all I should say about that.

I don't like the idea of anything that promotes and unhealthy life style. I'm not saying that there are Italians out there gaining weight on purpose, but it would be one thing if people were closer to the low end, but those weights go beyond morbidly obese.

For the same reason I don't like regular beauty pagents because they promote an unhealthy lifestyle. The whole judging of people on appearance should go away, but I know that's a pipe dream. The models chosen by the fashion industry are just creepy. As are a number of actresses. Debra Messing comes to mind as does CarrieAnne Moss. They are human stick figures.

I agree, that's not really, well, healthy among other things

well at least the big boobs in this pageant were all natural, and unisex too (yeah, I know I'm sick and twisted)

haha! So true. My mother is slightly overweight (slightly in comparisson to these people). She prolly needs to lose like 50 pounds. She exercises everday, which is great! However, she doesn't shut her damn mouth! She eats like, non-stop, even if it is apples, or pretzels, or salad. It's still got calories! I try to tell her this, but the whole, "It's healthy food so I can eat it!" stance always comes up.

most people just don't get the idea that you can't lose weight and be healthy simply not eating, eating too much, or not exercising. you can't eat a ton of healthy food and no junk and think it's fine, just like you can't eat very very little servings of mcdonalds (junk food for the most part) but three times a day. i mean, half a big mac for lunch will build up eventually.

Thank you!

Losing weight is really not that hard (unless maybe you have a thyroid problem).
Eat less
Exercise

that's about it.

okay, granted, the only "exercising" i do is walk around in the store, go to work, walk to my car....but at home i run all over my house like it's a race against the microwave. and at college i walk a mile a day (perhaps even uphill both ways) to get to class, and it's helped me maintain a weight...eating college food apparently makes you lose weight too.

It's so fun to be overweight, and it only gets better when people make assumptions that you're just lazy, or eat only fast food.

no one's assuming here.

If no one's assuming, what's with the blanket statements?

that was a joke, i thought people knew i didn't mean it. i've had my fair share of issues with my weight and i'm still dealing with some of them. i'll be the first to not assume.

the cake reference was due to a story i was reading in a magazine about teen obesity. it was about a girl who told a personal testimony about a birthday party incident when she realized just how much of a problem she had. this news story just reminded me of the thing i read yesterday and i didn't mean offense in it.

AS, I snapped at you - that was unnesscessary. I'm sorry. I should had counted to ten before I responded to this thread at all. I should have reminded myself that when people communicate in writing, it's very easy to misunderstand people because it's really hard to establish tone through text. I should have reminded myself that this is an area that I'm oversensitive about to begin with, and not to assume the worst of people.

no harm done. i'll be the first to say that i've got my own issues...i'm mostly over them, but they come up once in a while.

a sign i'm mostly over them now...i bought WHITE pants. they strangely enough do not make my booty look bigger. i'm surprised. there's a conspiracy.

Been a fat ass most of my life. Still got a beer belly but it should be gone in a month or three. I hated being that way, so I decided to change it.

If your happy that way, then keep doing it. I happen to like women more than food, so it was easier for me to get in shape.

Incidently, I decided to start losing weight when I lost like 6 pounds due to the Norwalk virus.

thing is, most people who are overweight due to eating aren't happy at all, which means that when they get depressed, they eat, and because they eat when they're depresssed, they often get more depressed...it's a cycle. it happens to a lot of people. i love food...but i love good food. i guess it helps to be picky about the kinds of food i eat. i like gourmet stuff, and i tend to try to eat more organic. i'm eating a greasy slice of pizza right now, but considering i haven't eaten pizza in about a month, it's not bad at all. and it's a cheesesteak pizza, so i'm getting vegetables and some meat too, plus dairy. i'm drinking spring water instead of soda.

I cut sodas first, then fast food, then sweets, and so on, at the same time I started powerlifiting again.

The hardest thing I have trouble cutting out is alcohol. I mean I party at least once a week, sometimes go to a concert twice a week. Don't drink beer much anymore because it has too many calories and makes me depressed. Now, I strictly drink whiskey or non-wormwood absinthe, normally two or three shots at a concert to loosen me up.

Recently switched to bodybuilding (seeing a huge change in my appearence for the better). Anyways, my diet now:

Breakfast: Cerial and milk
After Work out: Protien drink (Myoplex or Metrex)
Lunch: 1/2 LB of turkey or lean beef, with creatine drink
Dinner: Usually a meat/pasta combo

Works damn well for me. God bless Creatine!

i doubt i'll ever drink much alcohol. probably wine once in a while, during dinner, but i doubt that i'll get used to drinking much of other things. it's just not something my parents do, so i haven't grown up with it and i'm not around it.

Sometimes I wish I hadn't gotten involved with it long ago, ah well. I wasn't really raised much around it either, and much of my alcohol know how is self taught (not a good way to discover it).

well i go to a university where i'm not exposed to it, or people who are into it, for the most part. i'm also in a place where people don't smoke on a regular basis. and none of my family drinks very much. we have a case of budweiser, but that's mostly because of my dad and some of my parents' friends that come over for dinners.

I don't know what that is and maybe I don't want to know.

When I see feeder...I think feeder fish. I don't have fish that have to eat live feeders, but I am on a couple of fish boards, so that's what people are usually talking about when they say "feeder". So now I'm thinking that some people have fetishes for really obese goldfish.

Ew.
