I was rewatching "Till the Blood Runs Clear", and just realized it was Aeryn's fault Furlow ended up with John's wormhole research. She told Furlow about it, so she would expedite the repair process on the module. I don't think John ever figures that out, though.
Aeryn: You really have no intention of fixing this module anytime soon, have you Furlow?
Furlow: Well. I don't normally have quite so many bounty hunters gettin' in my way.
Aeryn: Look, I don't know what your game is. But I think we might be able to make a deal.
Furlow: Do tell.
Aeryn: You any good at cyber manipulation?
Then, later. . .
Aeryn: Actually Crichton, I - um - I have a debt with Furlow that I can't honor. So. I'd really appreciate it if you'd settle the account.
John: Okay... (he approaches Furlow) Furlow! About the bill…
Furlow: (handing him her invoice) It's all there, parts, labor, overtime, goggle rental…
John: (barely glancing at it, knowing he has no way of paying it) Goggle rental?
Furlow: Okay, I'll throw in the goggles.
John: You need any food cubes?
Furlow: I beg your pardon?
John: I can't pay this. (he gives the bill back to her)
Furlow: Then we have a problem. Unless of course, there's somethin' else of value you have to offer. And I don't mean your charming smile. You know, the ability to create a stable wormhole - travel through space and time - would be incredibly…
John: Profitable?
Furlow: Probably.
John: Deal! I'll download you a copy of the data as soon as I get back aboard the ship.
Furlow: Exclusive rights or there's no deal.
John: What? (he and Furlow stare at each other) No! No - That - that data may be my only ticket home!
Furlow: Well. Of course, you're welcomed to stay here and be part of an exciting experiment.
John: I can't stay here Furlow. I gotta keep moving. There's probably half a dozen bounty hunters on their way here right now.
Furlow: Well, then you really have a problem.
John: (he is quiet for a tortured moment, but knows he has no choice. From his pocket he produces the tape of his data. Furlow daintily accepts it) The data. I can start from scratch. (he turns away)
Furlow: Pleasure doing business with ya.

Yeah maybe Aeryn spilled the beans, but poking around in the module Furlow would have figured out something was up.

I actually think that Furlow was there the entire time doing Wormhole research. Why else would she have stayed there... she wasn't like the other 'people' who were on the planet. I think that she knew what John was asking when he said he wanted the module finished before the Solar Flares stopped. The fact that John was farther ahead of her... made her push the situation so that she would/could get what she wanted. She used both John and Aeryn to get what she wanted. She could have told John that the solar flares would be back... but she didn't. She wanted the access to the proto-wormholes for herself.

Or she could have just been ther because it's the only repair station for a large amount of space, and she can take advantage of customers du to the enviornment.

Furlow and John talk about "spacial anomalies" and things before Aeryn has her little chat. The job Furlow did for Aeryn was to reprogram the bounty hunter beacon that Crais had left so that bounty hunters would leave them alone. I think Furlow suspected what John was doing from early on. She is alot more cunning and intelligent than most give her credit for.

I always thought that ^ scene was kinda shady. Not sure why, though.

Actually, I see that as a major change in Aeryn; she never asks anyone for help, ever. When she was blinded by the solar flare she refused to let John help her. He was very hurt by the fact that she would not. This was her way of saying 'I'm sorry, John."

Well my mind went right to the gutter and thought Aeryn may have offered Furlow John's body for repayment. ;) But she had to spoil it and ask about wormholes. I'd rather have the bod!

Yeah, it seemed a little shady to me, too. It was like she was passing the buck to him knowing there's no way he could pay it. Kinda like I find all these expensive shoes and clothes in a store and I don't have any money of my own to pay for them. So I'm allowed to walk out with them because I tell the clerk that that guy over there (hubby or SO) will take care of it. Meanwhile, I'm not even sure they have the funds, either.
In Aeryn's case, she had Furlow do some stuff that she knew full well she couldn't pay for and so in the end she asks Crichton to settle the bill for her. Or maybe she did think Crichton would pay for services rendered with his bod! :D

Yep, pretty clear to me. Aeryn had a large hand in creating the Furlow threat. I don't understand why all the handwaving about that subject.

I can't really blame Aeryn for footing John with the bill. It was John who got her into the whole mess in the first place when he raced straight for the proto-wormhole with no regard for her. And as we see later on in Season 3 (spoiler:Had they gone into that wormhole they would have been turned to jelly)

Hmmmm.... how is it that no blame ever attaches to Aeryn Sun...
If you trace back ANY issue far enough, you can displace blame.
I think it is pretty clear cut... Aeryn was more responsible than John for Furlow getting Wormhole tech. Did she KNOW what she was giving her? No, of course not....
HMMM... I'm thinking new thread... or poll even.

That's how I always saw it too. Never understood why some think Aeryn is to blame about anything to do with giving away wormhole info. Her idea about the beacon saved their butts, and wasn't related to wormholes at all.

All kidding aside, how do you figure she's the blame? To my recollection, we didn't hear her tell Furlow that John would pay with wormhole tech. Obviously, Furlow didn't ask for cash up front when Aeryn had her do that little reprogramming job with the wanted beacon. So Aeryn didn't have to tell her how she'd be paid. I think Aeryn figured Crichton and Furlow would just work out some kind of barter and if worse came to worse payment would be...well you get the pic. :O :D

Poor John :( Give Furlow wormhole information or "recreate" with her . . . given the choice, I would also give her the wormhole information every time . . . a baby FurJohn would not have been a pleasant sight . . .

Ewww!!! The idea of John having to "recreate" with Furlow is worse than a prison sentence where he's concerned. You saw the look on his face after she kissed him in IP. Yeah, I think we all know how potent John's swimmers are -- at least we don't have to worry about a baby FurJohn coming out the woodwork. :eek4:

Exactly. I don't blame anyone but Furlow for Furlow's actions. :irate:
And a baby FurJohn?! Poor kid would be seriously frelled in the head!

Furlow reminds me so much of Kathy Bates. I've this image in my head of Furlow in "Misery" wielding her giant ankle-breaking spanner and screaming "I've just seen the last episode and you've killed John & Aeryn!!" followed by keeping everyone involved tied up in her abode till she gets her miniseries :)

That's exactly what I thought, too! (Glad I'm not the only one whose mind is inhabiting that neighborhood)

PLEEEEEZ! Don't get me wrong! I love Aeryn! She's by far my favorite character. What I meant was, I just think that's where one of the ripples started. You know, it was "FATE - keeping its promise and screwing them in the fine print." Aeryn knew Furlow was interested in wormhole tech and would help them more if she told her John had quite a bit of data. Truly, though, I don't think Aeryn wanted John to be very successful with his wormhole research. She was very emotionally immature back then. If he figured out wormholes, she would lose him when he went back to Erp. And she wasn't sure she could go with him. That didn't stop her from acting like she was helping him (i.e. the scene from the beginning of the ep). I'm sure she loved spending time alone with him in VERY close quarters, even though she didn't know just what to do with him yet. ;)
Make sense?

I suspect the problem with Furlow was pretty near inevitable. Furlow was asking very shrewd questions pretty early on. She no doubt had surmised what John was up to without either John or Aeryn having to give it away.
And as for the deal between Furlow and Aeryn, that really was a separate issue.
I think the relevance of Aeryn asking John to sort it out with Furlow might have been Aeryn believing it was John's fault they were on the planet to begin with, and being perhaps aware that John, though foreign to these parts, was savvy enough to work out some kind of deal. John's pretty resourceful, and even Aeryn knows it, though she'd be damned if she would admit it out loud.
Aeryn's dodgy voicing of the matter was perhaps down to the fact that she knew she might have been able to make a deal that didn't involve wormhole tech, but perhaps felt it was John's mess to clean up. She also might very well have suspected what Furlow would demand, and that John would have little or no choice but to settle, which would suit Aeryn fine. Just desserts.
Obviously, neither Aeryn nor John could know the full implications of just what they were doing when they made that deal. They didn't even know about the inherent dangers of wormhole travel until several episodes later (John's ship is inexplicably resistant to the effects of wormhole travel that Peacekeeper vehicles seemed unequipped to handle). More to the point, they had no notion of the possibility that wormholes could be used as weapons. That revelation didn't come until the end of the season, and even then didn't sink in until well into the second season.
