Next week we get the rating numbers for how the Stargates did going head to head with the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. I think, the lower 1.3 rating for the first showing of "Resident Evil" on the Scifi channel, kind of proves the problem that theatrical movies have in the ratings, by the time they get to broadcast and basic cable channels. They've been available for viewing through so many avenues, it's saturated the potential viewing audiences desire to watch the movie again. While the made for Scifi channel movies may not match up to these movies in quality, their originality, to the potential viewing audience, gives them a slight advantage in the ratings. IMO.

Something of note here is that the spin-off series Stargate: Atlantis surpassed Stargate SG-1 in ratings from the beginning and has had no major dropoff in viewership. This week is the first to have both shows evenly matched in ratings. What is unusual about this is that season premieres and finales usually get the highest ratings and Stargate SG-1 had done pretty much the reverse, the past two non-premiere episodes have done better than the premiere. What can explain this?

Maybe our "friends" over at Sci-Fi will be blown away by the through-the-roof ratings when the mini premieres. Then, maybe we'll all get our show back! I'd say Farscape is a bit beyond Tremors - The Series ;)

From your post to their ears. I caught a short run of eps one friday morning a few weeks ago on Sci-Fi...man I miss Farscape. I made the mistake of seeing the trailer for PeaceKeeper Wars the other day -- mistake b/c I was at work -- so after I picked my jaw up fromthe ground I nearly had to strangle myself to keep from yelling "And they cancelled this show?!"
Tremors was cute (I'm a big fan of the movies and the series didn't suck too bad) but Farscape (like Firefly) was pure gold. Much, much better place for them to spend their budget -- and infinately more re-watchable.

AS fans of Farscape, this whole community is working very diligently to bring about increased viewership, plus ratings...
My question is if only ratings are shown by the number of houseolds that actually have Neilson boxes; how do we go about making sure that PeaceKeeper Wars is a success. Alot is riding on this mini series...
How do we make sure the numbers are going to come in and be great...
I don't think the ratings are really accurate on what is being watched or not....So, I guess maybe this is a question for Media Servant...
Any thoughts? Ideas? I'm all ears... :box: :bump:

Scaper Election Night = October 17th
Rest of U.S. = November 5th

Within this question is one of the questions that dogs entertainment marketers...if you advertise it, will they come. The history of entertainment marketing is strewn with examples of movies and TV shows that got lots of advertising, but still failed. On the other end of the spectrum were things that got little extra advertising and succeeded.
The SciFi Channel advertised "5ive Days to Midnight" heavily and it still didn't get watched by a lot of people. On the other hand, some of their Saturday night movies, which get nothing but on-air promotion, often get really good ratings.
In the end, no one really knows exactly what level or type of advertising works. It's ultimately the fickle public whose behavior is inscrutable at times that decides what appeals to them and what doesn't. But, what they do know is this...they gotta try their best.
If your concern is reaching Nielsen viewers with your message, there are about one of them in every 20,000 people. Thus, the answer is to reach the masses and hope that within the audience of the communications vehicle you used are a few of those Nielsen people.
