I just created a G-Mail account and have 5 invites left. It's a bit pointless to let them collect dust, so I was wondering if anyone here also wanted one. For more information: http://gmail.google.com/

Okay...
first, what is G-mail?
second, why are the invites so important?
I've seen people snapping them up on another website like crazy.

From the GMail site (http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/about.html#about):
As part of Google's mission to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful, we're testing an email service called Gmail.
Gmail is a free, search-based webmail service that includes 1,000 megabytes (1 gigabyte) of storage. The backbone of Gmail is a powerful Google search engine that quickly recalls any message an account owner has ever sent or received. That means there's no need to file messages in order to find them again.
When Gmail displays an email, it automatically shows all the replies to that email as well, so users can view a message in the context of a conversation. There are no pop-ups or untargeted banner ads in Gmail, which places relevant text ads and links to related web pages adjacent to email messages.
The invites are the only way you can get a GMail address at the moment. It's still in the testing phase. There is no word as of yet on when it will open up to the public.

Google Talk is now out. It's a new messaging program from Google. As of now, the only options are text instant messaging like AIM or any of the others and voice calls over the computer. Some friends and I have tried it out, and the sound is extremely clear. Unfortunately, I post this in this thread because one must have Gmail in order to use it.

I have 50 brand spanking new invites if anyone's interested. If you want one, PM me your e-mail address. The capacity has also been increased to over 2GB. Google have also released a new version of the Google Talk (http://www.google.com/talk/) messenger, not to mention Google Earth (http://earth.google.com/).
Oh, and if anyone ever wondered how Google works: http://www.google.com/technology/pigeonrank.html

Same here. And, for further clarification, Gmail is constantly adding to the storage space, so you get (ever so slightly) more by the second.

lol i just got the new messenger service, cause i am an IM whore. It's at http://www.google.com/talk and i am samati75, of course. It's really neat and simple and has voice ip or whatever you call it. I'm also messing with the google desktop search and sidebar. the sidebar has it's advantages and disadvantages. I am not sure if I will keep it. The google talk i like, but no one to talk to, yet. it's only a week old, though. I'm all for brand loyalty, lol.

I like that Google talk have used Jabber/XMPP, a previously existing open-standard messaging protocol so 3rd party clients will already work with it :)
