Skeleton found in front of TV
From correspondents in Poitiers, France
August 28, 2004

A MAN'S skeleton has been found in his flat in central western France, stretched out in bed in front of the television nearly two years after he died.

No one had missed the 57-year-old from Chatellerault since November 2002, when he is believed to have died.

Bailiffs discovered the skeleton dressed in a tracksuit during a visit to the fourth floor apartment after being called for non-payment of rent.

The man who lived alone was unemployed. Police say he died of natural causes. link (http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,10594351%255E401,00.html)

Mummified man found in bed
From correspondents in Winnipeg, Canada
August 28, 2004

POLICE have found the mummified remains of a Canadian man nearly two years after he died at a posh condominium, spooking neighbours who thought he was on vacation.

"He was in bed covered by a sheet with his head up and arms folded on his chest like he was sleeping," said chief medical examiner Thambirajah Balachandra in Winnipeg.

Neighbours had noticed the absence of Jim Sulkers, 53, but assumed he was on one of his regular extended vacations.

"It's just dreadful. It bothers me a lot because I'm alone too," said neighbour Gladys Lowry.

Police finally checked on Sulkers, who suffered from multiple sclerosis, after several pension cheques were returned to government offices. link (http://news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,10594385%255E401,00.html)

The dead guys bank account was paying the bills with his social security payments. Automatic withdrawals.

Wait, either the landlord waited two years before collecting rent, or the bank account ran out, or something else happened that I'm not understanding?

Sadly, since society is rapidly moving toward the day where no one will have to go out, this will happen more frequently.

If we don't get out once in awhile, people are going to forget we exist.

Well, it won't happen to any of us, because our loyal Scaper friends will notice our absence, and call the cops. But, lurkers won't be missed, since no one knows they're there, hint hint!

So wait...not only did he die and no one noticed, but he may also have been still paying rent?

Yeah, that's basically what I said. Although, I wasn't as comprehendable. :/

The most important questions are: "Was he a Nielsen rater?" and "Was he watching Farscape?"

[/BAD TASTE MODE OFF]

well he's from france, so no on the nielson. but a new article suggests that he may have been watching the scifi channel at his time of death.

Silk

The only problem is, assuming he was watching Farscape and could be on Nielson, he would also be bumping up all of the bad shows for the last 2 years, such as Scare Tactics. That's why I never fall asleep watching a show I like if it's on a channel that plays shows I don't like unless I'm going to wake up in a few minutes, or have the sleep timer set. :D

Maybe he died during 'Scare Tactics.' We could ask John Edwards to find out...

LMFEO!!!!
Whew. I laughed for quite a while. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Scare Tactics has killed some viewers.

So wait...not only did he die and no one noticed, but he may also have been still paying rent?

so if the land lord was a greedy enough bastard and the room was air tight,
all he would have to do was just keep the room locked and hope no one notice .

now here's a question - if the tenant was dead for 2 years, does that qualify as having checked out, does the land lord have to give Back the money?
I can see some distant cousin suing the land lord for the money.
and now who is going to want to rent that room now ?

I sorry but I can't help it ......... :rollin:

grinner
08-29-2004, 10:32 PM
no, they wouldn't be able to sue for the money. The Apartment was "Occupied". If it had been known that the guy was dead, the Landlord would have been able to rent the apartment to someone else. Since no one knew the guy was dead, the landlord was completely in his rights to keep the money for the use of the apartment.

yeah, but would that really stop anyone from trying ?

Well, I guess technically he was still occupying the premises.............

Hmm. That is sad. The automatic withdrawls are what probably kept it going for so long.

Now that's what I call a real die-hard Skiffy fan, waitin' for the final concluding series that will nail down the coffin's lid, so to speak.

Hell, I almost died laughing in front of me computer screen. Guess it would've been a bit more awkward to get me in the coffin after sittin' dead in me chair fer two years!

Sorry everyone, but I laughed me bollix off at that one. But I did stop laughing a bit after seeing grinner's second post within the same thread. Very sad that one.
