View Full Version : How do you vist FMD most of the time? Guest, Hidden, or Logged in and Visible?
Darth Buddha

Simple enough a question... I want to know how you usually visit.
Do you usually lurk not logged in?
Do you log in, but you chose "hidden" in your preferences?
Do you log in and are visible for all to see?
I think this will help inform the "how many guests are really members" question that so many ask.

Funny that. No lurkers yet! ;)

We CAN'T have a vote for lurkers...
But we CAN figure out roughly how many "lurkers" are really FMD members.. in a proportional sense.

Hmmmm... so if this trend were to hold at 5 to 9 (I doubt it will), we'd guesstimate that there are half as many FMD members visible as not.... so we'd devide the current 54 by 9 and then multiply by five... 30 members invisible out of 37 "guests" so only seven unregistered can't be accounted for. I'd say the results of this poll would be an UNDER estimate, and using that under estimate we still only have seven out of 94 users as true lurkers.
Seems to me there really aren't that many non-FMD viewers. But this is just an early estimate. We need more votes!

see I thought that if you logged in but were hidden, you would be counted amongst the number of members veiwing but not listed as a member or a guest in the who's online section....otherwise the numbers don't add up....??

no, if you are hidden, you get counted as a guest. Log on late at night and look at the user/guest comparision.

So here you are the lurker who is a member. I usually just lurk and log on to post only. I am at work a lot of the time so just have time to check new posts through the day.

keep in mind that if you don't stay active within a fifteen minute window, you are no longer represented in the count... ;)

None of the options offered really describes my behavior. At work, I do not log in. Thus, I count as a guest anytime I visit during a weekday. But, at home, I do stay logged in.
This is a strategy on my part to prevent myself from spending time posting at the office. If I'm not logged in (and I don't recall my password), I can't post.

When I'm working on me other computer (Ferrari), I like to sneak in quickly, stay around awhiles without being seen and then slink out slowly away from prying eye. Yeah, I'm a sneaky mutant ninja kung-Fooey hair-bear guy. Yay, don't mess with me muthas! OMG... I've dropped me pills on the floor... :fear:

Hmm... the relative numbers of FMD members who can't be seen seems to be rather less than I thought.
Maybe we DO have a bunch of non-FMD members cruising this site.

Oftentimes, I'll find one or two more soon afterwards, so I stay logged in until I need to go out or get some sleep :D .

I've somehow miraculously re-appeared, and am ready to jump into the action again. Yo, BaseLine, I'm affraid that was a typo error; It should have read Volvo Estate. :rollin:
If ever I were to get meself a PC notebook it would either be one of those sleek looking Sony Viao's, or perhaps your choice of Acer Ferrari 3000 orange-colored deliciously sleek looking notebook. I'm a Mac-man meself, but that hasn't stopped me thinking about PCs, after all, I did start out with one back in 1995!

I have invisible chosen but I can still see my name on the who's online list. I'd rather be invisible. I don't like the idea of just anyone knowing my every move, it affects my lurking and I feel like I'm under a microscope. I'm paranoid.
