Okay, we have this digital, touchscreen univeral remote by Brookstone. It's been working fine for about 6 months now. Well, it started acting wonky, the display was illuminated, but the buttons wouldn't activate. I went for step 1, replace the batteries. Put new batteries in, and it didn't help. WTF? Okay, shuffle the batteries around a bit and it will work for 2 or 3 button pushes.
Fine, pull out the other remotes. On a whim, about a week or so later I pull out the remote and try it again. Works great now. WTF?
I swear the electronics gremlin was just out to get me.
I'm just going to be happy the remote is working, but I fear putting the other's away knowing that as soon as I do, I will need them again.
I think I'll go celebrate and splurge on a memory upgrade for the ol' laptop. ;)

I have a little Ikea "picturebox" full of remotes that I keep under the side table for just such an occasion. ;)

you need to spend a few hundred to get a decent remote. I don't have a decent remote, and I spent a few hundred. so I might be wrong.

This is about a $100 remote, so it's not a bottom of the line. I had not bought anything from Brookstone before, I don't know why hubby just didn't get one from Best Buy, but he probably didn't know they sell them there. I really hate it when he purchases electronics. He's not the type of person who really researches this type of thing.

I personally would never purchase anything from brookstone. I think they sell junk. You want to check this site out for reviews, specs and features. Remote Central (http://www.remotecentral.com/)
I have the Sony Remote Commander RM-AV2100, I've had since the day circuit city put it on the shelf, about 4 years ago. It sucks, sucks really bad, wish I had looked at remote central prior to making my purchase. Sony has newer models that can be had cheaper, and they are better than what I have.

grinner, I try to :whip: him into shape, but he hit his technology point about 5 years ago when he bought the desktop and kind of gave up. As long as it can play his games, he's happy. Past that, he has no idea. That's what he has me for. I find it strange that I am the tech guru in the relationship. When he hooked up the new Dolby 6.1 stereo to the HDTV, that was an all day project for him. I probably could have done it in an hour.
When we move hooking up the stereo is my job. And he lived with his laptop stuck on the desk for 6 months because he didn't know how to get it to talk to the wireless router, it came with a wireless card. I could have sent him an email explaining it, but he said that he wouldn't have understood it, he could wait until I came home. :lol
Believe me, Brookstone would not have been my first choice. As it's working now, I don't see a new one in our future. If we do get a new one in the future, he will not be picking it out.
