Healing Field official web site (http://www.healingfield.org/)
If you haven't heard of it, you may want to check when and if one will be in your area. I only found out because a friend told me about it, he and his family actually helped set up many of the flags.
My wife and I went there this morning, and spent over 3 hours reading each one of the names on the yellow ribbons. I had a range of emotions that were very unexpected.
At one moment, I was near tears, by myself reading a name, I could hear these school kids laughing and playing near the veterans monument, something occured to me. The reason all these men and women died were playing and laughing amongst all the flags. The thought had occured to me before, many times, yet it was diferent today.
You can purchase flags, you get the whole deal, the flag, ribbon if it has one, cause only the flags representing fallen warriors had ribbons, the pvc and the rebar that holds the pvc pole. My wife purchased the flag with this soldiers name on it Lori Ann Piestewa (http://www.fallenheroesmemorial.com/oif/profiles/piestewaloriann.html) I this one Cory R Mracek (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.iraqwarheroes.com/photos/mracek.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.iraqwarheroes.com/mracek.htm&h=476&w=640&sz=50&tbnid=VNw6IODC4wsJ:&tbnh=100&tbnw=134&start=2&prev=/images%3Fq%3DCory%2BMracek%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie% 3DUTF-8%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN)
The money from the purchasing of the flags is used diferently in each area, yet always for charity. The one in Northglenn is using the money to build a 9/11 memorial at Ed Beins park.
If you choose to look at the pictures I took today, you will see one where someone wrote a note. This one touched me in such an extreme way. I was unprepared for what I read.
There is a flag for every single person that died on 9/11 and in the war that began afterwards, to hopefully prevent that it never happens again.
