As you probably know, many people have been effected by Hurricanes Ivan, Charlie, and Bonney, and many still living in these areas are having a tough time. If you would like to help, here is the link to the Red Cross:
www.redcross.org
You can select to donate for victims of these disasters, your local Red Cross chapter, the military in the field, or to international relief.
With the changing weather, needy children and their families need warm clothes for winter, nice clothes for interviews, and school clothes. If you know a drop off point in your area, clean out your closet and drop off clothes wrapped in plastic (garbage bags are fine). You'll feel great! If you don't know where you can give, you can locate your local Goodwill drop off center by going to:
http://locator.goodwill.org
If you cleaned out that closet and found 4 or 5 bags of stuff for you to haul off to donations, but can't get it there, you can have the Salvation Army pick up your clothes, furniture, and appliances. They will come with a truck and lots of big guys to take your usable but old stuff away. If you call, have a list handy of approximately what you are giving away. There is also a link to value your donations for tax purposes.

A couple of other things you can do that doesn't involve money or a computer:
1) Give blood. Locally the US suffers blood shortages during the holidays, so if you are 18 or older and at least 120 pounds this is a great way to help out.
2) Keep an eye out for bulletin boards in your community for activities at a church, school, library, or community center. These places will usually post lots of the charitable events going on that you may not know about.
3) Volunteer. It doesn't matter what for, but chances are your local library, hospital, or museum may need a an extra hand now and again. Pick a place you like to go, or are interested in. It's fun for you and chances are you'll make a new friend and get to know your neighbors better.
Even if you don't get around to doing any of these things, I hope you will remember to register to vote at your local library. Cut off for registration is usually 30 days prior to an election, so time is running out. Don't worry that you'll get picked for jury duty, chances are if you have a driver's license or state ID, you're already on the jury list.
In advance, thank you!! Scapers rock!!
