Hey there, Scapers (seen and unseen)!!

I know that most of you have already perused (that's high-falutin' talk for 'read') the thread about the special edition DVD of "A Killer Within" that is going to be available for pre-ordering beginning October 1st. I'd like to come into your homes by way of this thread and twist your arm a little bit. (Only in the nicest of strong-arm methods, of course! ) Here's my thinkin' on this situation, and why I'd like you to spend the next 8 days setting aside some preciously hoarded $$'s in order to afford the DVD when it becomes available for pre-order.

Scapers and Browder-fans, this is our chance to SCREAM out our high opinion of Ben Browder's talent in the language that means the most to the film industry. I'm referring, of course, to MONEY. Yes, we've let the media and the film industry know that we love Ben and Claudia and Gigi and all of the cast of Farscape, and think the world of their abilities, but when it comes right down to it, few things talk to Hollywood and sponsors as convincingly as the almighty buck. Now is our chance to let them know that Ben Browder is capable of commanding a viewership that reaches far beyond Farscape (as much as we'd like him to continue playing John Crichton for another ten or more seasons), and that they REALLY need to keep hiring him for their films.

Just to make sure you all know what I'm talking about ... this is going to be a one-time-only, special edition DVD with Browder-ific extras. If you don't order, it doesn't mean that you'll never be able to get your hands on this particular DVD, or on a copy of A Killer Within, but you do run the chance that you'll miss it completely. Distribution of the movie isn't cast in stone ... yet. Some of you probably want to wait to see if it's a good movie ... It's got BEN BROWDER!!! Who the frell cares if it's good. Of course it's good! (At least the scenes with Ben are guaranteed to be knock-your-socks-off good, right?) Some of you may be waiting to see if it gets a release in the theaters. What if it doesn't? Or what if your buying the DVD could sway a distributor to sign for a theater distribution? Wouldn't that be worth it? You have a chance to directly exert a positive influence on Ben Browder's career, and get to see him in more films with ever greater distribution. How many fans get this kind of chance?

I know that for the most part, I'm singing to the choir here. What I'm asking is for you all to reach out to the holdouts and to SPREAD THE WORD to other forums, and even other fandoms. Scapers, if we flood them with orders starting on October 1st, the people in power ARE going to notice. Money talks!

If you are on the fence about pre-ordering, please let me just run on over to wherever you are perched and (respectfully) FLING you to the "I'll buy it!" side!

The DVDs will be available for pre-order ONLY at the website for A Killer Within, beginning on October 1st. (I hope they've beefed up their server for the onslaught on the 1st.) Between today and then, a link will be added at the Benaholics Unanimous website, just in case this thread slides out of sight.

Someone asked at Kansas how the DVD sales would possibly affect whether backers would want Ben in "Connected"....my answer to that:

CM....most backers want a name that will bring viewers in. There have been a LOT of projects that were targeted for one actor, only to have them replaced by a "name". Ben is a good example of that. Kemper and Rock had to sell him, because he's not the actor that the backers wanted. But, they fought for him.

It would be very easy for Fireside to monitor the number of pre-orders by Scapers* to take that info to the backer and say "See, here is a loyal following that we can count on at the box office. And no doubt, they will drag their families, their best friends, tell their colleagues...these are passionate people! We need to put Ben in that part!"

*They are releasing the special edition with Ben and Brad interviews JUST for the Farscape fans...so easy to track.

The way it usually works is they will produce the number of DVD's sold on the advance sales, plus a few extra. I've not heard that it's a set number with hopes of selling them (which would be counter productive), but I'll send a note off to Dorothy Gail who is in contact with Brad Keller, the producer.

The limited edition part pertains to the period of time they are allowed to sell them. If you've purchased one in that first 30 days, you'll get it. Any and all orders will be filled.

Feel free to buy as many as you want... 100,000 sounds like a nice round number, don't you think?! After all, this is collectible, if you think about it!!! How many times do you EVER see a film maker make a special edition catering to the fans of one of the actors?! Even that Pitt guy doesn't get that kind of fan devotion!?!?! I look at it this way...

How many times have you sat through a play, chorus concert, band, orchestra, pee wee football and the many other things we all get involved with in our daily lives? We do this, not always because we enjoy it, but because we want to support our loved ones in their interests, right?

We've lived with Ben, Claudia and the others in our living rooms for the last 5+ years. They've not only given us the entertainment of a fabulous show, but they've also shown time and again how much we all mean to them. They've shared things with us that many "actors" would hold private (I'm thinking specifically of the footage of them receiving the news of the cancellation) and have done and said things that were meant just for us, not because they were thinking ratings or boosting their next project, but because they genuinely love us, the Scapers, and felt compelled to share.

So where am I going with this? Well...they are family (or at least friends), right? Even if the movie that Ben did, or the music that Anth and Wayne create or anything that any of them does isn't quite "your thing", you still feel that you need to support your family and friends in their interests, right?

I've never been able to participate in a con or invest much money in the campaign as it's not in my budget as a single mom to be able to do so (though I love my cookbook!). But the cost of a DVD? A music CD? This I can do. And even if I get the movie and it's not the type of thing I normally watch, it is money well spent because on some level, I've let a good friend know that I support his efforts and interests.

But this is just my opinion...lol

Selena - I'm with you. I saw Killer, though, and I really liked it. You can filter my opinion with the fact that I'm a Card Carrying Benaholic, a pathetic romantic, and a major shipper. It makes the story sweeter when you beat up John all day, but you've just gotta give him Aeryn at the end of the day! (or the end of the year, or 4 years, or whatever) -- Hope. That's what's kept me invested in Farscape!!!!! :D :D :D

Also the price is $24.99 for everyone on the planet unless you happen to live somewhere really obscure shipping wise. Whooh Hoo !!! I just spoke to June at Buzzy Multimedia and she said that I should get my copy of INTEROLERS by tommorow :rolleyes: That's because I ordered mine to be shipped by overnight mail. She also said they sent out all the preorders. She was really nice and so excited about Ben's performance. Evidently there were people in their company who were not familiar with Ben or his work but he won them all over by his wonderful treatment of Alan Dean Foster's work.

How's this for a Texas Scapers Meetup?....

The Dallas Premiere of A Killer Within screening will be November 18th at the Inwood theater at 5,7 and 9pm. One of those will be for Cast and Crew, and the others will be for the public.

I had booked my plane ticket for Burbank on Wed, the 17th!!! I'll go back and change it if Ben's going to be there, though. At this point, I think they're hoping he will because they want to promote him.

Ben is one hunk o' nice man!!! (heavy on the Hunk, heavy on the Nice, and -sigh - heavy on the Man!)

I was very dignified and reserved before I pounced on Ben! He didn't remember me from Burbank last year - yay!! (Trust me, Ben, that was the RIGHT answer!! LOL!! :D )I'm off the hook!! He obviously was not nearly as mortified as I was at the Sunday Breakfast at Burbank last year when I embarrassed him with my comment about how loyal his fans are... OTOH - we've pretty much gone ahead and done exactly what I said we'd be willing to do to support Ben and his career any way we can!

Anyway, we had hugs and questions and he was very sweet to let us pin him down for a little while. I was like, "Could you sign this hat? and this hat? and a picture? and one with Bamber, too? and, one more thing, somebody's signaling that there's a Scapergirl out in the hallway who needs a Ben hug - so he runs out there and spends some quality Ben love on a VERY appreciative but seriously Benboggled Benaholic. She's recovering even now, but with the seriously personal Benness Buzz administered, I'm confident that she will LIVE now!! LOL!! Gotta love this man!!

Apparently, Ben only got the announcement about the Brunch thing when we did - on Thursday or Friday - and he had to rush off to duty, honor and RL that had been planned previously. How poignant, actually - we weren't the only ones who sacrificed some of our otherwise planned weekend for some Scaper Love!!!

We got lots of interviews, chats, hugs, photos of Giancarlo, Dedee, Mark Hanson (that really manic and scary bad guy in Killer!!! He has GOT to be the wildest, scariest bad guy I've seen!!), Brad, Chris (the AKW Writer, Scaper, Serious Benaholic, Sometimes Superwoman I Think, GWWJ, Sociobiologist Consultant for Romance writers (?!?!) and all around woman that you really want to sit and listen to!!!).

Bamber says that she thinks Ben and Brad have "Twin Language" - they say things and laugh and trade silly looks when nobody else knows what they're talking about. Shared Guy Type Insanity.

There was another independent camera crew doing interviews, too. There was lots of meet and greet stuff.

Then, it was off to get on the shuttle to go to the movies!!! I'm waiting my turn to board the shuttle, and I hear Ben say that he really should sneak out and get back to his responsibilities... ?! Ack! I'd told Chris that there were fans waiting to cheer for Ben at the theater entrance, so she shepherds him onto the shuttle anyway, and we're off.

As we pull up, people see the crowd of people waving signs and smiling. I'm in the very back, and people are saying, "Oh, look! Are they Ben's fans? Ben has fans here? Where?" (now all the people on the other side of the bus who can't see are standing up and leaning over to see the fans! Somebody says, "Oh! It's Ben's Farscape Fans!" There's a collective, "Awwwwww". Ben is standing next to Bamber's seat, and she hears him whimper, "oohhhh," when he sees them.

BTW - Ben was the only person with a posse waiting for him outside the theater.

Mr. B, looking oh so charming and graceful, goes to do hugs and autographs and pass the Scaper love. He just exudes All American Good Guy Male. Watching him at the brunch, somebody comments on that. She says that's why he should play the good guy hero. It shows through everything he does: body language and a hundred little mannerisms. I say it's the real deal natural grace and charm. Cause I can. I didn't see no smoke and mirrors. This man is the real deal. What you see is pretty much what you get.

While he's signing auto's, people in the crowd are asking, "How did they know he'd be here? ... Did they fly out here? ... The production company must have posted something on their site about it..." LOL!

People inside the theater are saying that about 20 BenFans are outside. (and, there were - right? ) Chris, the Benaholic Writer Scaper Super Woman, tells one of the Fireside people to take all the unclaimed special tickets out to the Scapers and see if they want to come in and see the movie. ROFLOL! "Well, gee! Let us think about this a minute before we commit.... DUH!!!"

Brad runs out to herd us into the auditorium because the movie is starting.

We get inside and Ben's name is drifting across the screen with scary, dramatic music. Yay!!! The movie is great. I laugh, scream, and cry. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I heard ya'll in the back scream when I did! Aaaaaaaa!! Aaaaa! Aaa!

Ben makes me cry and scream. Dedee makes me cry. Mark Hanson gives me nightmares. Giancarlo looks darned good. I'm so proud of Brad! Then Me, Bamber, Tiriel and Mr. Tiriel all take a nice stroll back to the hotel to get all our stuff and maybe have a cup of coffee and sit and listen to everything we can get Chris Pierson to talk about - and give Brad lots of hugs and appreciation!

Big sigh!!!

Long plane ride back, and I have a ton of piccies to share!! We've got to maybe get someone to post them on the http://www.akillerwithinmovie.com/ website, which BTW - is praised and bragged on by Mark Hanson and his wife!!!

I got my "Killer" DVD yesterday. So far I've only had time to watch the Ben interview.......which was really funny because they talked about people watching IT first instead of watching the movie. That's me!! :)
