View Full Version : The Reviews Look Good... But What if the Mini had SUCKED? Would you admit it?

The preliminary reviews make PEACEKEEPER WARS sound pretty damned good at the VERY least.

However, what if that hadn't been the case? What if we were looking at a "Star Trek: Generations" or "The Matrix Revelations"? What if it had stunk? John went back to earth and became a burnt out alcoholic truck driver. Aeryn went with him, got big hair, and developed a New Jersey accent?

I'm just wondering how many folks would say the mini sucked if indeed it did, and how many would NEVER NEVER NEVER admit it if it HAD been bad?

I would never admit it.

I still qualify my dislike for Taking The Stone with "even bad farscape is better than good SG1". I won't even admit the level of my dislike of that episode. Therefore, even if the mini were a steaming pile, I'd herald it as still the best thing on TV.

Well, as much as it worries me that people do not understand it (did Scifi really think people didn't like the show anymore when they complained about stuff on the Dom? Who knows...) I would say it sucked if it did, but there's absolutely no chance of that, so no worries.

It's just not a possibility. There is no suckage allowed in Farscape. Wait a sec, that's not quite what I meant. Either way, it's gonna be great and you'd never hear it from me if it weren't.

Admit it? Yes, but only if asked. (Don't ask, don't tell?)
To espouse contempt for it on every mention of the word Farscape?
Definitly not.. The great episodes out-number the mediocre.

BTW, I think I might like an episode like the one you described. Sounds like another bizarre "unrealized reality". :D

If it really did suck, I would certainly admit it. But in the same sentence I would probably find a way to justify it.

i.e. - What can you expect when they have to take a season of scripts and condense them into only 4 hours.
or
They were just trying to wrap up the loose ends for the fans. The movie will be much better.

It would have had to suck pretty bad for anyone to admit it.
This is Farscape, and even the least popular episode of Farscape had fantastic moments.
So for the mini to suck it would have had to be worse than Revenge of the Killer Tomatoes.

See, that's one reason why it's not possible..Revenge of the Killer Tomatoes didn't have Ben and Claudia in it. So it couldn't suck that bad.

It'd take a lot for me to think it was bad...

And while I can't help you with an actual episode like the John-as-alcoholic-truck-driver-and-Aeryn-with-big-hair-and-a-New-Jersey-accent scenario, you really should check out Twich's "Farscape: A Lifetime Movie."

C'mon, the Killer Tomatoes, that was a classic and the theme song, how can anyone not like that!...:tomato: :duck: whoops!! :D

Though, I still have a lingering wariness for tomatoes to this day :eh:

As for Farscape, only if it sucked beyond comprehension would I admit it and of course that is totally within the realms of the monumentally IMPOSSIBLE...to be clear :D

 Ummm.... that already haappened. And the cycle gets repeated every week, down at the local cineplex. I'm talking the 'Matrix' and 'Star Trek' disappointments, so, nothing new there... 'Phantom Menace', 'Suspect Zero', 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen', 'X-Men' 1 & 2, i could go on and on... most of these things are studies in disappointment, and that's really NOT the kind of thing that someone with my pass-times should be excoriating.

Claudia Black taking the Drea De Matteo role against Michael Imperioli in 'The Sopranos'? Interesting thought - I say bring it on. John as a burnt-out truck-driver? He'd be bitter and sarcastic, and ALSO probably terribly interesting to watch as he sets small dogs on fire, and begins to flame out himself.

Buddha, I think you've got a future in the entertainment business...

As for it sucking... yeah, I'd probably eat it up, and then just not talk about it, except to people who were similarly disappointed, just to keep the 'laundry' so to speak, in the family house. If it SUCKED, nobody would talk about it, ever, save for the weenies who live flogging dead horses, and then we'd all have to wait until the afterlife to get some good television.

The more that I have watched 'Taking the Stone', the more I like it. So I would have to say that I would be totally honest and hope that IF the mini was bad, that it would grow on me and I would eventually like it.

I don't expect this to be the case... but on the off chance...

I am predisposed to like it, and am definitely not an unbiased viewer, but I'd admit it if I did not like the mini. I can't wait to see it and decide for myself!!! We've (my husband and I) been power-watching the whole series at home in preparation for the mini and are at the beginning of S3. Love it!

I'm biased but would admit if it sucked. There are episodes that don't live up to the legacy of the show and that's ok. This is much bigger, so I hope it doesn't stink. There is too much riding on it. But yeah I could say if it just wasn't very good.

I heard on good authority that all the shots of Ben and Claudia are actually just flashbacks and the characters of John and Aeryn are now played by Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. Also, D'Argo has been changed to more of a bumbling comic-relief character, who spouts inane banter like "Meesa Ka D'Argo. Ex-squuze-me!" Oh yeah, and one of the characters will be voted off in the final hour. Have your cell phones ready!

Maybe a year ago I wouldn't admit it, but if it sucked, it was total crap below standards of what Farscape is capable of (and one has to admit they set rather high standards) then I would probably rant about it in emails and face to face till no one wants to talk to me and nurse my disappointment with sizeable bitterness and rage. Then I would get over it and eventually buy it on DVD anyway.

Well, I like Taking the Stone :) And I even don't mind DALD. The only ep that I found just plain annoying was CBC. That's one out of 88, so the odds of the mini sucking are really really tiny. I can't imagine it, in fact :D

I'm sure the mini will rock. My only fear was that it would be too intense all the time and not have enough of the humor that I always loved. Even in the most tense situations Farscape would always find a way to add a little humor. I have faith that element will remain. Will we see John and Scorpi battling it out in fluffy bunny suits? Probably not. But I still think there will be some laugh out loud moments. Somtimes at the most inappropriate times.

Well.. it would be impossible for the mini to suck (so I voted for that).

But... If it DID really really really suck (like we were in a UR or something and that happened) I would probably just tell newbies that haven't seen it to not ever bother seeing it and just give them a basic rundown so they know what happened. That is, if it sucked bad enough to make me wary of farscape in general.

Not gonna happen though :D

I have a tribal mentality so my vote was: I'm biased, it would have to pretty bad for me to say so.

If they let a blooper through I would take it as part of the entertainment. Standing on their previous record they can afford to let a few bloopers through. Got to take the bad with the good sometimes.

Most people can tell good criticism from bad anyway. There was that joke where someone complained that Mozart had put in too many notes into his composition to which Mozart replied "Which ones?" Critique the critics that's what I say.

Frell yea I'd speak up and say if the mini sucked. After two years of thinking about what might-- frelling well should have been, TPTB, would have been rested and full of ideas (and revenge to prove why Farscape should continue...). But as sure as I know I'm alive and breathing air, I know the mini will drive me to the ultimate heights of all emotions. There will be the hilarity of belly laughs, sweetness of J/A love, bitterness of enemies getting the upper hand, angst at losing loved ones, intenstly clever dialog, lightning fast plot, twist and turns to leave me stunned, rich, dark, deep colors of photography, delicious camera work, perfection of guy's music and acting so beautiful I'll be limp in my chair, bearly able to lift a finger to wipe the tears from my eyes. It's going to kick arse, rock our world. Soon..... :D

As did I. It was one of the early episodes (yeah, early for me because I only saw a handful of season one episodes the first time around) that made me think, "Yeah, Farscape, this show's kinda weird, but there's so much emotion. I think I like it! :D"

I would admit if the mini sucked, both to be honest to myself (I used to try and convince myself that Star Trek voyager didn't suck) and so that if there's more Farscape after the mini then the writers know what parts the fans didn't like. I hope they paid attention to fan's criticisms of Season 4 for one thing (not that it wasn't great, but we've come to expect fantastic :D ).

I'll claim that I'll be an honest reviewer, but I have to admit that if the mini was "written as a love letter to the fans", then I'm probably going to find it hard to claim there was any suckage. On the other hand, that doesn't necessarily mean that others new to FS won't review it completely differently- that's my greatest fear- that it plays so much to us that it leaves the casual and new viewers behind- because that might have an impact on the chances of more FS beyond the mini.

I dunno. My introduction to Farscape was "Meltdown", "Infinite Possibilites" (I even missed a lot of the explanation bits first time round" and "The Choice". I was pretty lost but I was also intrigued, and wanted to stay to find out what was going on and was totally compelled to get the DVDs. At the end of the choice when they're talking about "Moya" and "The crichton of moya", I was like "ooh, have to find out what this moya is, sounds like there's a lot of interesting backstory here".

I said Farscape cannot suck. But hey, I'm hugely bias. The show, even at it's worst, isn't bad. Everyone has eps that they didn't particularly like, but there are moments that are memorable.

Anyway, look at the other tripe being served up on TV atm. How could the mini possibly be worse than any of it?
