New here..an evil friend of mine got me totally hooked on Farscape..and I've both just seen Crais croak and discovered Farscape is cancelled all at once.
I can't believe it!! This is sick! Is Crais coming back? Is Farscape? I'm sure you are all laughing at me, but have sympathy for a newbie. I'm really from the shock of seeing Crais die. What the heck! I haven't watched season 4 yet but I know he isn't gonna show. Is he going to be in the mini series? Ugh!!! Why did they kill him? He is right up there with my other favorite male characters on TV, Sark from Alias and Spike from Buffy.

I'll second that one. Don't worry, season 4 is great, and the new mini-series airs October 17th.

Welcome scapemusica! :hi:
That is one of the joys of science fiction. You can always bring people back from the dead. That is what I am hoping for him. He was one of my favorite characters too. I'm just glad that Lani is still doing Pilot.

Someone mentioned that if you re-play the starburst scene in slow motion, you actually see Talyn get through the starburst circle. It really looks like he makes it.
(Small spoiler for the beginning to Dog With Two Bones below:)
And they do mention later about how it's strange that they find so little left of Talyn. That always seemed suspicious to me.

SPOILER
Yes I'm afraid he's dead. The actor still plays the voice of Pilot though, and he does pop up in person in two imaginary setting during the course of Season 4. (one is as the ogre in a computer game in John Quixote, and the other time is in the episode "Unrealised Reality"). Both episodes also see cameos by Zhaan and Jool.

Well, whether he shows up on Farscape again or not, I take the tack that no one is really dead in Farscape. There are several fictions out there, a lot by me ;) , that have Crais alive in one fashion or another. So, it's up to your imagination.

Ben has commented that they have to kill characters about 3 times before they stay dead. In science fiction anything is possible.

He was just starting to grow on me.

I know I've said it before, but I would like to see both Crais and Zhaan miraculously come back.

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing; a devastatingly beautiful wonderful sad chapter in our friend's lives.

Personally, I wouldn't like to see Crais or Zhaan. They have to have some characters die. I think they both had great deaths and it should stay that way. But they can't kill John or Aeryn, or their baby, or I will, in fact, be pissed.

Welcome to my world. Many of my friends have given up on Farscape after those two deaths.
Yes, it's essentially a story about John, but the best thing was that the supporting characters were well developed and had thier own wants, needs and dreams. Unlike Star Trek which was predominately Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

The way that I saw it was that Crais' death showed John that he was wrong about Crais. Crais went from enemy to solemn friend and ally, and John still treated him without trust.
Name me another show that would have that kind of character development.

I came into the show during Season 3, and it was such a surprise for me when I got my season 1 boxset to find Crais as the bad guy :)

Same here... I had seen maybe 3 or so random episodes, but I started really watching after "Meltdown" in S3. So, after I finished S4, I went back and started from the beginning. I agree with BillFrugge, they did a pretty good job with his character.

Crais was always a bad guy; even when he was a good guy he was a bad guy.

Welcome to another Crais Cohort. In Farscape, nobody ever dies. I am hoping he isn't.

I love Crais' character development. In the beginning he is wild-haired, undisciplined, irrational, tyrannical. He kills the woman who is protecting him, hits a mad lunatic Stark because he is in the way and punches Crichton while he is strapped in, being tortured. He also collects Hynerian heads. The worst kind of bully! An awful person. Every time I saw him, I'd mumble at the screen: "Die! I hate you" and other similar imprecations.
Yet because of the great writing and Lani Tupu's wonderful portrayal, by the end of S3, he transforms into a neatly-groomed (:D), intelligent, dedicated man with honorable feelings. And it is believable! I saw the nobility of his character and was truly moved by his death. (Btw, I don't think he necessarily changed as much over the seasons as came back to where he was before this all happened. We first meet Crais at the worst moment of his life. His brother dead. But he couldn't have been fully selfish gibbering loonie before. He rose from the ranks to become Captain. He seems to have won the loyalty of a large part of his crew. Yes he followed the wrong leaders, but he must still have been effective, dedicated, duty bound and deeply intelligent. I think what we saw over the seasons is Crais' basic character revealed, not changed. We saw him come back to normal, but of course with his feelings developed away from PKs onto different targets (from Tauvo and PK system to Talyn and Aeryn).
This said, I hope he stays dead. Otherwise it becomes ridiculous, everyone coming back to life.

IMHO (and it's just that so take the follow for what it's worth), if Crais were to come back it would cheapen the sacrifice he made and diminish the development of his character.

I loved Crais' character, one of the best things in Farscape. His sacrifice was noble and worthy. Don't bring him back. It's not just about cheaping his sacrifice, or that every show brings characters back to life, it's about Farscape's dignity.
What other series will kill people? What other series will keep them dead? What other series will show people that life is hard, people die, you must go on?
Bringing Aeryn back was the right thing to do, and it was done right. Zhann did it for the others, and it cost her life. It wasan't a little, hey I found a button that will bring people back or, God say you can live again. Zhaan made a choice, she paid it in full. Everyone was sad, but understood her sacrifice, and wished there was something they could do, but there wasan't.
Don't bring Zhaan back. Her story is finished. Zhaan dosen't even want to come back.

Interesting. There's a remarkable parallel between Crais and Scorpy.

Do we really know Crais's character? :dunno:  If anything he is survivor. Crais has changed allegiance numerable times as we have seen through the seasons. It is unfortunate that Tayln had to suffer the consequences of the outcome. P.P.O.V. Considering how Crais has behaved in the past; it wouldn't surprise me for the gang to find him on another planet as a supreme military leader.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
BillFrugge,
Both Crais and Scorpy displayed paranoia to its ulimate defintion.

It would suprise and piss me off if they did that. Military was nolonger in his character. Survival yes, need for dominance not so much.
