Okay, this is a very big deal for me. Navy has not won since 1963 and they are off to their best start since 1979 at 5-0. Now I know some of you are asking why on earth do Navy and Notre Dame play every year since, face it, Navy is not a football powerhouse?
Easy, the University of Notre Dame probably would have had to close in WWII if it hadn't been for the Navy opening an OCS campus there. At that time the two teams had been friendly football rivals, but that really cemented the friendship. Since then the two teams have met every year. Over the last couple of years it has been a close game with the game deciding play coming down to sometimes questionable calls by the officials. In fact, the two teams are negotiating games through 2016.
So, in this 73rd meeting of the gold helmets, here's to Navy finally pulling out the win. :D What can I say, I'm an optimist. Plus it makes the BCS guys scratch their heads. ;)
