Hey everyone! I just had to find a way to make it back (ever so briefly) to say hi to you all and celebrate the mini! It's so good to see you all here! I've missed you all bunches!!!
My PayPal woes are continuing...beyond belief. I can't tell you how disgusted I am by PP and their practices. The bank put the money back into our account and they 'billed' PP for the fradulent charges. Now PP is saying that WE owe them that money...even though we had notified them on Friday and the money was stolen on Monday afternoon. The same thing is likely to happen with the credit card company as well.
PayPal is still insisting that we are the culprits (from that two hour investigation that they supposedly did) although they aren't sharing the findings of that investigation with us. They won't tell us why/how they believe it came from our house and they refuse to share any information other than "the computer says you did it". It's going to take subpoenas and other legal action to get to the bottom of this whole mess...and meanwhile, PP has informed us that if any other transactions are attempted, they will be permitted to go through. That's fine with us...we closed our bank account and cancelled our credit cards. The only problem is PP holding us responsible for those transactions.
All in all, it's been pretty horrendous. Even though the bank gave us our money back, hundreds of dollars in fees have been assessed to our account (and are continuing to be assessed as bills go automatically to our old account, etc. We're trying to catch them all, but sometimes the info isn't getting to the right people before the automatic charges go...it's not cool.) and the bank is trying to clear up those charges, but as with anything, it's taking time. Every day is some sort of clean up effort with this whole mess and HOURS spent with investigators and attorneys. It's horrible.
We're just planning to have a very tight Christmas and few months here. Hopefully everything works out so that we're only out a few hundred dollars instead of several thousand.
I'm glad to see that so many people have canceled their accounts. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. Seriously. I found out that basically, it would be like me handing my credit card and bank account info to someone and telling them that they could buy a Farscape dvd. Then say they start taking it to buy other things, the *only* recourse I have is to ask them to stop. There's nothing else I can do to stop them. PayPal has the right AT ANY TIME AND FOR ANY REASON to freeze you out of your own account. It's totally at their discretion. That means you will be unable to remove your bank account or credit card information from their site. It basically belongs to them and they can 'hold' it at any time. You sign away a lot of your rights when you accept their agreement. I hate that it happened to us, but I hope we can stop someone else from having it happen to them. And no. We did NOT click on any links in emails that we received...we did not hand out our account info...and we did NOTHING to bring this upon ourselves. We are VERY careful with regards to computer security. It is a hack job from somewhere...we just need to get into this investigation more deeply to discover the how/where. And of course the longer PayPal stalls, the less chance of us actually catching anyone.
In the meantime I'm still offline more than on these days. Investigations are still pending and all that. I miss you all and can't wait till I'm back so we can work on Farscape DVD sales!!!!
Love you all!
