View Full Version : I would like to say something about this board

Though the most I've ever posted was over the last few days, I've still been a VERY active BBS user for years (though on other pages). I just wanted to say "THANK YOU!!!"

First, for putting together the campaign to bring back the show (at least for the mini); having watched that interview on the Late, Late Show with Ben, putting together backers totalling $20 million is NO small feat! The campaign needs an award or something for that... I don't recall hearing of any fanbase doing something like that (aside from MST3K, though they just drove Comedy Central employees to have nervous breakdowns :D).

Second (and this is equally important to me): I have yet to see ANYTHING about politics on this board and I THANK YOU!!!! It seemed that every board I went to these days was drowning in political "My Side Is Better Than Your Side" arguements and I thank you guys for not falling under that crap! You have no idea how refreshing it is to talk to people about something other than politics! There aren't people here talking down to other posters like they have a superiority complex (that I've seen).

Thank you!

Ok, I'm done. Go about your business now :)

Perhaps, but frankly it's refreshing to be someplace where it's not all politics and belittling everyone. I'm too old to care about that garbage ego-play :)

After the Iraqi war discussions were banned here, I moved most of my OT over to trekweb.com. But for the last month or two, it was best to stop being political even there, because I'm liberal-left, and two of the dudes helping to plug Farscape there are both conservative-right (one of them thinks Islam is Evil, while the other loves to bait people like me).

yes it's a very nice board, and there are lots of nice users here

However I don't agree that the board works better with some real world, enviornmental, or other news discussions. People often have other stuff to talk about and people like to debate political issues or talk about family matters. I've started out as a firefly fan in science fiction and I've seen many political threads doing fine in other boards. The discussions on news or global events are often neatly tucked away in other parts of the forum so that these issues don't end up taking over the websites.
Posting on news issues or political debates is just fine and the great thing is I can post stuff on other boards without getting PM'd with abuse and threats.

Yea, my political views tend to get me banned on forums. So I keep them to a lull. Though they tend to slip out from time to time.

Woo! Fascism! Woo!

Eek, sorry.

Crazy-ass political threads pop up once in a while (on both sides of the political spectrum, by the way) but overall this place is just a big happy squishy place to be. I get all my news here. That may sound odd, maybe even tragic. But it's true.

Anyway, post more often, and props on the Foamy avatar.

I've seen many political threads doing fine in other boards.

To be honest, I haven't seen a single political thread that was "civil" unless it's full of those of the same ideology. Especially not in the last few years.

Oh well. It's nice to get away from the politics and "I'm better than you, so I'll belittle you now" posters. I'm 32... I'm too old to care :)

Anyway, post more often, and props on the Foamy avatar.
