View Full Version : Before anyone says, yes. I'm insane. Paint job ideas?

Hey everyone.
Yes, I know I'm insane. So, it doesn't need to be pointed out. ;)
I just bought a 60 foot monster bus to convert to a motorhome, and I want to also use it as a mobile advertising mechanism for FarScape.
Anyone have any ideas what kind of paint job I could put on this thing to accomplish this, and still have it look like a motorhome? 8)
It's going to be a while before I can get around to the paint job, but I'd like to get some ideas flowing in my head and on paper/digitalscape long before I get to that point... I think it's a really neat idea, personally... Of course, that's just one nut's opinion... :D
60 foot of canvas... Gimme some ideas!!
I've included a pic of the bus (hopefully it worked, anyway) to give you guys an idea of what this thing really is.

You could give it a nice leviathan texture.

I'd give a shout out in the "Eye Candy " forum because there are lot of very talented arty peeps in there who can give you some advice. :)

Dang, dude, how's the fuel economy on that thing?
Does it have a luggage compartment like a Greyhound?
:eek2: Would it be chilly in the morning?
But hey, you can drive all day on a tank of diesel.
And are we talking MAJOR wheelchair access or what!!!

That would be a cool idea....with Farscape adverts in between, cause only Scapers would know what the heck is was supposed to be otherwise. :)

Hehe... yea, it's supposed to have a chair lift, but he doesn't have a pic of it for me. It's in Minnesota, I'm in Louisiana... So I'll have to fly up there to bring it home, or perhaps rent a U-Haul one way and take my tools with me to work on it a bit before taking it home... Gotta take the seats out before I can legally drive it as a non-commercial vehicle... little bit of work before I can drive it, but it'll be worth it. :)
The Leviathan paint job would be a neat idea too. It's workable as a backdrop/backfill between other things, like John, Aeryn, D'Argo, and.. well, EVERYONE else. :D
As for fuel economy... just a little trivia for ya. :) It has a 120 gallon tank, and gets about 8 Miles to the Gallon. Not bad for that kind of a rig!
As for luggage compartments, I don't think so. It's a city transit bus... but there's LOTS of room underneath for me to put things like holding tanks, plumbing, wiring, etc... Which I fully intend to do...
But I want to Scape the bus! :) :D

P.S., I moved the picture to the Eye Candy post, since it won't let me dupe the pic. heh... oh well. :)

That is huge...but you baought it before you saw it? Does it run? You sure that's not just a pic of the "good" side?
LiLOrion
10-22-2004, 02:55 PM
That is huge! Are you going to be able to park that in front of your house? Will your neighbors still talk to you afterwards? :D
I hate those accordian things in the middle though. Nothing like almost falling on your ass when youre trying to walk to the back of one of those things. (I didnt fall on my ass, I'm just saying :lol) Cause in the Septa buses here, they have like a funky rotating floor at that part of the bus which makes it really hard to walk on.

Hehe, I was waiting for someone to say that. ;) I dunno if I can post the link, but I bought it from our favorite auction site, which has several pics, and a video of it running and a walkthrough... so, TECHNICALLY, yea, I bought it sight unseen, but... Us Scapers are nutty enough to do things like that and get away with it like a bandit in a full henhouse, are we not? ;)
Oh, and Rusty... I think it would be if I didn't have the heater running... ;) :D

Well, considering that I'm going to be using it AS my house... That's kindof a difficult question. :D
But, the house I'm in now... Well, I think it's as wide as the bus is long, so... no... I don't think the neighborhood "ass"ociation would appreciate having a bus like that parked in front of our house, plus, it's illegal to park a vehicle on the street in my location... I learned that the hard way with my other bus. Oh well... Me and the police chief had a fun conversation about it though....

Hrm, yea... this one has that kind of setup... :D But that's ok... the front half will be the "living" area... the back half will be bedrooms and bathroom... So for the most part, unless you had to go to the bathroom, you wouldn't walk through there while moving.
It will be interesting though... It's basically two 30 foot sections of bus, joined by a trailer hitch in the middle with rubber sides to keep the air out! It's one funky rig... but it's going to be cool once it's done. :D
I just hope I can come up with something killer to put on the side for Farscape... I think I'll name it "Farscape-2" and have the destination sign up top read "Uncharted Territories"... :D

You can't name it Farscape-2!!!! That is the name of my 1998 Ford Explorer Sport! If you notice below my screen name it says "Farscape-2 Astronaut." Ahem. LoL. Well, so long as you promise I can take it for a spin around the stars SoulScaper, I'll let you off the hook.
Btw, I am related to the Astronaut Roger Chaffee. Always cool to throw that out. Scape on!

Doh! :) But whos vehicle would win in a tug of war? ;) Alright then, I'll think of another name.... :D
Any ideas for a name?!? :D

LoL, go ahead and use it. I won't sue you for copyrights or nothing considering I only have a bumpersticker that says "Farscape-2" and no legal documentation. Though I did kidnap Ben and force him to christen it with a bottle of Killian's Irish Red.

Hahaha... :) Well, but seriously... Another name _might_ be more appropriate anyway... how about "Road Leviathan" or something? I mean... geez... it's frelling HUGE... Like a SHIP, not a module... ;)

Interesting, but just doesn't have the impact I'm looking for.

Only a couple hundred? Me thinks maybe a few thousand... prolly more. :D

Definitely. At 60 feet long, this thing does remind me of a big fish in a very small pond... :D

Unfortunately, only the BUS is in Minnesota... I, myself, am still STUCK in the deep south. What I wouldn't give to move back to Minnesota... that's where I'm from. Baudette, MN to be specific. :D I love to see SNOW at Christmas time.... all we get down here is freezing rain... Occasionally a snow flake or two, but it's not like our northern snow... it's... different. Sigh.
But when I venture up there to get the bus, I'll sure say howdy! Er, wait, that's Southern speak. I'll say Hello. :)
Ok... I still need a name, Scapers! What should this beast be called?

So it's a Leviathan, hybrid with bus technology?
ScaperJim
10-22-2004, 11:58 PM
I actually think naming it the "Road Leviathan" would be very fitting. For those of you familiar with biblical scripture you would know that a Leviathan is a "huge sea monster" but over time a Leviathan has come to represent anything that is larger than life. Thomas Hobbes actually called his political works "The Leviathan" because he wanted a strong central government to rule the people. Just an interesting bit of history for you fellow nerds.

Hehehehe.... I like the ideas I'm hearing so far. :D

:) I'm thinking that no matter what's on the side, it's going to attract attention. That alone is a great way to get Farscape noticed... So, we've got a Leviathan style paint job, with "wrapped" advertisements/show information/etc..., with the destination to Uncharted Territories (hopefully that'll fit in the destination sign!)... I'm liking this. :D
