So, I've been working on my associate's degree in Business Administration for quite some time (read an eternity), fitting in online & telecourses in between 2 jobs. I live 6 hrs from the college, so it was the best alternative. Anyhoo, I am currently taking three classes and applied for graduation (and paid the fee) in December. Then I get a letter in the mail today telling me I will not receive credit transfer for the math course I took. Since there wasn't a math class offered online or by telecourse in the entire STATE, I checked with my advisor and she gave me approval to take one by correspondence course from Thompson Education Direct (I had previously taken computer courses from them while in high school that transferred to my college). Now the dean has denied the transfer and says that I will just have to take a math class next quarter. Once again, it's not offered online. The nearest community college is 2 1/2 hrs away, and doesn't even offer one as a night class. If I have to take a class next quarter, I will pay another fee and apply for graduation again. This really chaps my butt, not only because of the money issue, but the fact that I didn't even enroll for the class until my advisor approved it! I have e-mailed the dean, and he acted like he didn't know anything about my transcripts. I faxed him all the info, sent him the email address to check out, etc. No response back. :grumpy:

Plus, I'm supposed to be taking a speech course by telecourse as well. They sent me the videos (late), but I still haven't received the orientation materials. The class started on the 4TH! I have called, faxed, emailed, etc. to no avail. On the rare occasion that I even get ahold of my prof, he acts completely nonchalant, promises to mail the materials, no big deal. I have several speeches I have to give by the end of the quarter, and I don't even know what they are supposed to be about! He acts like he could care less, but says he's willing to work with my schedule. My schedule isn't the problem!!! I'm not sure if I will even have time to give the speeches before the quarter ends the way things are going! :irate:

Thus endeth my whine session. I just wish the wizard would give them both brains... :headache:

Hey Trina, since the stuff is transfer anyway, can you use SD, Wyo, or Colo. courses? That would at least getch there although it might be more expensive... how about Creighton or one of the other private schools? This frellin sux, Kid, I'm sorry...

Could you appeal the decision about the math class?

That totally sucks.

Where I went to school, you couldn't be required to take a class on a subject you already know. Now if it's the same math class that you've already taken, pay the tuition, take the final, and they should give you credit. You're still out the fundage, but...

Thanks for the beer! I took that one, and for some reason, it started reproducing! :ewink:

Well, I talked with the dean of admissions again and sent him all the information he wanted, but he still hasn't let me know one way or the other. What ticks me off the most is that my frelling advisor is the one who gave me approval in the first place. Shouldn't she actually KNOW what she's doing? It's like pulling teeth to get anyone to respond to calls, letters, emails, etc. And I work in a lawyer's office - I'm used to people not answering messages! :D

None of the private schools here offer the necessary math courses as correspondence courses, unfortunately. I've tried finding an online class in SD, WY, & CO, but no luck. I think I'll check into the correspondence from there too. Thanks, David.

I'm going to try to talk to him tomorrow about the testing out of the class thing. That's a good idea. Good lord, I think I know enough about business math by now. The funny thing is, I've taken all of the classes already that had math as a prereq. If I didn't understand it, how would I have passed the classes? Idiots.

And still no word or papers from my speech prof. I tell you one thing, the next time I get him on the phone, he's gonna find out a little something about my speaking abilities. :bballbat: :irate:
