What product or company would you want to promote? i've got a massive project due and i'm having the hardest time trying to find a product or company that i would want to promote. i've got to come up with a whole ad campaign, down to the history of the company and how it revolves around my campaign, the slogans, etc. and i need suggestions for products. i figure you guys were good, creative people to ask...

Google.
Cause there was all that news about them going public on the stock exchange a few months back and they seem to be still expanding. They just recently purchased some mapping/GPS company.
Sirius satellite radio.
Thats an up and comer in terms of where radio is going and it shouldnt be too long to research their past cause I dont think they have been around all that long.

i was thinking sirius, but they and XM radio have the market cornered so far, so if one wants satellite radio they have two main options. so that makes them an industry giant when it comes to the specifics of satellite radio....
though it's a great idea, i'm already thinking of good marketing strategies. any other good ideas, LiLO? i think you're a great genius at coming up with things.

Well yeah, but they still have to convince people to pay for their services as opposed to just listening to free radio chock full o'commercials and FCC regulations. So dont write off that idea completely. They only have one other competitor in terms of similar competing company but they have loads of competitors in terms of regular free radio.
And since it is a fairly new company (whether you were to pick Sirius or XM radio) they dont have a lot of history, so that part of your project would be short (less work for you, more time on FMD). :D

The Creature Shop :)
Seriously, their history is at least interesting as much as 'product' though it probbly isn't exactly the same you're looking for, like coca cola or something.

the creature shop certainly is interesting...but they don't need advertisement. the average consumer is not going to need the creature shop for anything. the people who use the company are people in the entertainment industry.

I would suggest one of the remaining American railroad companies.
The railroad charts the history of our nation, as it is what really set to motion the connection of the coasts. It also provides an interesting view upon a transportation mode, which could still be utilized for the good of the environment.
Just think of all the big names, which were so intimately tied to the railroad.
You can find some remaining railroad companies here (http://www.aar.org/Our_Members/our_members.asp)

That'd be an interesting twist to an ad campaign.

i was thinking i could do a local business. a local restaurant that needs exposure. but i don't know. i think i would rather do something national.

You didnt specify if you needed to do advertising for a company geared towards the average joe, or geared towards an entity like government, state, country, etc.
And, I dont have any examples (by name), but what about a company concerned with keeping people safe from terrorism?
I was watching something a few days ago where there is a company trying to make devices (chips, cameras, etc.) that would be put inside cargo containers to help protect the ports from shipments transporting dirty bombs, weapons or even terrorists themselves.
OR...
Maybe a company (again, names are escaping me) concerned with organic products such as food. Their products are usually more expensive, so you'd have your work cut out for you regarding an ad campaign.

I dont know where you are, but you might have a local organic farm round you somewhere.
Small, local beer companies seem to be "in" as well.

i would prefer a company or a product geared towards a consumer. shoes, cars, etc. have all been done. i'm thinking...maybe a luxury purse company? i know Coach has purses from 50 dollars to 500 dollars. that is a good range for many people. i want to do a tv commercial on film though, but i couldn't do that with coach purses. i don't have a coach purse (yet). but if i did burberry i could just take my mom's. or luis vuitton though he doesn't need any kind of advertising. i don't know. i just want a product i can promote, be fun and creative with, and also be able to use in a filmed commercial, therefore it can't be something like sirius. cause i don't know anyone with satellite radio.
can't do a local brewery, i go to a religious school. i would want to do Old Dominion Brewery, because they make the best root beer i've ever had, Dominion Root Beer, and it's entirely native to just virginia. it is made with virginia honey and it's amazing. i can't find their website either.
eta: i found it, but because the company also makes beer, the site got blocked by my school filter! IT SUCKS!

tracking systems seem popular. Micro chips for pets, GPS systems attached to cell phones so you can keep track of your teen or husband...

...or you could go for those genetically modified hypoallergenic kittens from my previous thread.

Ooh! That is a good suggestion! We had a small brewery re-open a number of years back. It had actually been rather big in its time, and played on that history for its revival.

if i can't get the site unblocked, is there any way you guys can take all the contents of the site and email them to me? graphics, text, and all? eeek. i know it's a giant issue.
what i have managed to do is look up specific things in the website, and look at google's cached version of the page. problem is i dont have the graphics. so if those could be sent to me that would be AWESOME of you guys.

Old Dominion Brewery..."Dont drink more beer, drink better beer"
Gotta love that slogan!

My suggestion would be to pick a product that you yourself are 200+ percent enthusiastic about or invent a new product that you absolutely MUST have simply because it will make your life and other people's lives much easier.
Choose a product you already have solid knowlege about, something that you truly love, and something that you want MORE of - your passion will help you make the right decisions on how to promote the product, and since its something you are already keenly interested in and if you throughly investigate/analyize what drives you to want that product, the project will write itself....
Marketing is all about passion...and advertising is all about making everyone else share that passion.
(20+ years and I still love this business! :D)
