40 minutes early? Sweet.
*sigh* To Steam or not to Steam. Not. Gotta have a box. I cant justify fifty+ bucks and not have something tangible to show for it.

Ok, HL2DM is absolutely bad ass and I'm certain it will cause a wave of failure of finals all across academic institutions in America. Gravgun + flying toilet + enemy's head = deathmatch bliss.
Anybody else playing?

HL2 is the biggest disapointment in 2004. They promised excellent graphics, physics, gameplay, AI and everything else. The truth is:
- graphics is good but not excellent
- physics - Havok engine is known and used by many games, so nothing new and special here (but Gravity Gun is great), HL2 is just the first game that uses it so often
- gameplay - the game is boring, Canals, Water Hazard and many more, these levels are too long, too boring
- AI is bad, zombie's, combine soldiers and other characters are simply stupid
Character animation is quite good and face animation works well, but the whole game is noting special.
Positive thing is that the game runs quite well on older graphics cards, not only X800/GF6800, but valve made "special" implementation of DirectX 9 to their game, which makes GeForce FX series run in DirectX 8 mode instead od DX9 (performance in forced DX9 mode is poor, but with 3danalyze tweak, you can have DX9 mode on FX 5xxx with better framerate). :)
I'm not sure if I want it anymore.

I can't afford it but if I could I would get it. The guys over at Gamespy gave it a most excelent write-up.

Every webpage or magazine gives good notes to HL2, reason? Valve spend much money on advertising the game :D
It's a good game but not great one

What really bugs the dren out of me is that it requires an online check of your serial number - basically, if you don't have a net conection on the PC you install the game on, the game probably won't even install.
Now I'd be getting an original version of the game, of course - but don't want Valve/Vivendi sending stuff to and from my PC, it'd be a perfect opportunity to slip some spyware in. As far as I'm concerned, the game's a security threat while that requirement's still there - the fact that it's also invasion of privacy is just the icing on the cake.

My boyfriend got the game the day it came out, and he's already beat it. He and a friend have been messing with new stuff they have available, but it seems to me if somethig costs that much money, shouldn't it take you longer to finish it? :dunno:

that's why i like RPGs. now its like a minimum of 40+ hours of gameplay if you go the fast route, and like 100+ if you find every little thing (unless you use a walkthrough you cheaters). Heck, i still like to play Final Fantasy 3 (aka FF6 in Japan) for the SNES. that game just doesnt get old to me.
