Dead Is Dead

Showtime has canceled Dead Like Me after two seasons, anonymous sources told The Hollywood Reporter. The afterlife drama from MGM TV was denied a third batch of episodes by Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt, who is mulling his options among a new crop of drama pilots, the trade paper reported.

Dead premiered last year on the premium cable channel to relatively strong ratings and some critical acclaim. But a second season this year fell short of the buzz it generated in its first outing, the trade paper reported.

Executive produced by John Masius and Bryan Fuller, Dead starred Mandy Patinkin and Ellen Muth. "

This is why I gave up on tv. At least Dead Like Me got 2 seasons. These days, if a show doesn't get high ratings out of the gate, it gets yanked in 2 or 3 eps. I feel it just isn't worth investing my time in a show anymore, if they won't invest any time in it either.

I just don't even understand anymore. Almost all the shows I like (which I consider quality shows generally) are getting cancelled immediately or without notice or are never given a real chance. Meanwhile I get to listen to the &$%^(@(*& commercials for shows like the swan. I do watch one or two so called reality shows occasionally, but that dren lives???

It's just getting ridiculous. I am really happy to have dvds let me tell you... ;)

I try not to like a show too much anymore... cuz then it gets cancelled... and I am starting to think it's my fault. :lol
Sorry Firefly.
Sorry Wonderfalls.
Sorry Touching Evil.
Sorry Dead Like Me....

So, NYPinTA, do you think you could start watching and liking The Swan, My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss and Dr. Phil?

You know, I should try using my powers for 'good'.... Oh wait.. I have to like them too.
Nope. Sorry.

C'mon. Take one for the team. Proclaim your love for The Swan and all things "reality". For only with love can you conquer evil.

Yup, I'm with DRD, I don't get attached to TV shows anymore. Sadly the masses are interested in lowbrow reality entertainment right now, though they are predicting and imminent collapse, so any show that requires you to think or remember what happened last week doesn't seem to get much of a chance. Heck, nothing gets much of a chance now..

I pull for Lost and Desperate Housewives, even though I really don't watch either.

Eventually, there is going to be a scripted show that is complete and utter crap, but people will be so sick of "reality" shows that it will be almost unanimously hailed as the best show on television. So for any aspiring writers out there, get on the ball. If you time it right and air it right when reality shows have officially piqued, your show doesn't even have to be good. As long as it has actual actors and no extreme makeovers, people covered in rats, or tribal councils.

I KNOW JOE SHOW!

I bet it would do well. Just hide a camera on Joe's desk and watch the merriment ensue! :lol

But that would be reality. Now if it were a sitcom character based on Joe, I could live with that. But no canned laughter. I don't need someone telling me when something is funny.

I loved that show!! I'd heard they may cancel it, though. I hate that they did, but at least I got rid of Showtime before being totally bummed out about it. I picked up Starz/Encore instead, and I'm MUCH happier with it.

Disappointing. DLM was one of the few shows I watched regularly this year. Thank goodness the first season is out on DVD, and the second should come out fairly soon. In another year or two, I'll have most of my favorite shows on DVD, and then it won't matter that there's nothing but dren on TV anymore.

Crap. I had watched DLM since the start. I didn't get to see the final 2 eps, (I think) for one reason or another. I liked that show.

"Dead Still Walks The Earth?

Despite reports of its demise, Showtime's supernatural series Dead LIke Me may still have a little life left in it, according to a report by TV Guide Online's Michael Ausiello. MGM's television president, Hank Cohen, told Ausiello: "We are exploring every opportunity and option that we have available to us. It's a terrific show, and, contrary to what [Showtime president Robert Greenblatt] told Variety [on Dec. 21], our producers don't feel like we've even begun to explore all of the Reaper opportunities that we have."

Cohen added, "We have a very, very loyal fan base, and I'm going to do everything I can for these fans to make sure the show lives on. The irony of all this is that Dead Like Me is a metaphor for second chances, and we're hopefully going to find one."

Cohen told TV Guide that a final decision will be made within 45 days.

The Hollywood Reporter, citing anonymous sources, earlier reported that the show was being canceled after two seasons. "
