Have I missed a recent fashion trend? Is it no longer stylish to wear pantyhose to the office? :(
I've seen a lot of women in my office building--and even a couple here in the office--who don't wear pantyhose. Not even with business suits and heels.
Should I not be wearing them either? Am I out-of-style without even realizing it?

I hate them and avoid wearing them at all cost. But to me, some dresses with a certain kind of shoe does look better with them. I do have a rather fitting black dress that I will wear thigh highs with...the kind from Victoria's Secret that have the wide lace at the top..those are really comfortable, so I will relent and wear that kind.

Let's see how long it takes for one of our beloved fella Scapers to come in here and reply to that with this: :lech: :lol
BTW- I hate pantyhose too, but I can't imagine not wearing them with certain things...

But at the office? With professional attire? I'm talking skirts with matching suit jackets and 2" high heels.
I guess I just find it kind of bizarre.

It must depend on the office. I remember some woman I know commenting in the past few weeks that pantyhose were pretty much required in her office. Or maybe not absolutely required, but any woman in a dress not wearing hose was looked down upon. I think it is something that varies.

Unless you dress business casual, I'd say pantyhose would be required with skirts, unless they were really really long skirts. For the type of atire you mention, I'd say pantyhose. Now maybe in the summer when its really hot and the shoes are more like sandals, but other than that, pantyhose.
Do the men run around without socks? Incidently, leather dress shoes on men without socks seems really tacky and somehow gross to me.
I personally prefer brightly colored tights with my skirts. I have a hard time finding them though. Sometimes in the summer I will wear ankle socks with my skirts, but I feel sort of naked then.

Somehow I thought you might give such a response. I guess you are just minding your own business there, whistling and looking up to count the cieling tiles. Not a stray or bad thought in your head. Yup.

I am certainly no student of fashion---but since I moved to the beach---I don't think i have seen ANY ONE wearing them. Even at work.
I thought it was just "the beach thing to do" but maybe it is a trend...

I work in a lab. I only wear clothes to work that I don't care if they get messed up. But the people in the front office dress business casual, I guess. I wouldn't feel weird wearing a skirt without pantyhose here, but I have to wear pants with close-toed shoes to work. Excpet over the summer when the a/c was busted, then we wore shorts :lol
I hate pantyhose. With a passion. If I don't have to, I won't wear them. But there are certain functions I feel compelled to at least put on thigh-highs for, like an evening wedding or an interview maybe. But I usually just wear pants

You know, I was about to. But now I won't. *pouts*
I'll just say this:
Pantyhose, in or out? Definately in. They look dumb outside your clothes.
....And men should be discouraged from wearing them in the office.
....Alright, I can't resist.:lech:

Back to the original topic, pantyhose have been on the way out the last couple of years. I was in the dentist and there was an article in a fashion mag about that. I'm not a particular fan of them, but face it, I'm in a profession where don't wear much in the way of feminine clothing and I almost never wear them any other time. Of course, around here we wear lots of open toed shoes.
I'm not really sure how I feel about it.

Yeah, I think they're defiantly out. I don't know if any of you watch 'What Not To Wear', but it seems when they're dressing women for the professional world, they're not really on the list of 'must haves'. It does seem like tights are really popular this year. Also the fish net like ones, not really the hard core fish nets, but the kind of lacy ones. Don't think I've worn panty hose in years. I don't know if I even wore them to prom.

Where I work you have to wear them if you are wearing appropriate clothes that would require them. Most of the women do wear jeans and sneakers so its not really a requirement dress code here. But if you are wearing dress clothes you have to wear pantyhose with them. :dunno: Personally I feel that if you have the legs to not have to wear pantyhose, go for it. I would wear them because I have very pale skin. And also its too damn cold here. :)

Every woman in my office wears pantyhose this time of year. But once it gets hot in the summer, I don't wear them with long dresses. I slap on a pair of sandals so I don't have to worry about it. But with shorter dresses I still wear them. Of course, if I had a choice, I wouldn't be wearing a dress to work either, but them's the breaks.

I dont wear them in the summer either. :dunno: I love the cotton sundresses that look dressy so you can wear them anywhere. I have about 3 pairs of sandals but I prefer to go barefoot. :) But I feel with shorter dresses woren for specific occasions, pantyhose is a must. I think it just looks more neat and professional. I mostly wear jeans. :D

I wish I could wear jeans! One of the companies I worked for even let us wear shorts and t-shirts. THAT was nice!

No you are definitely not out of style. I was trying to find the article, but can't right now, but there was a recent article about pantyhose or stockings. How you SHOULD be wearing them with skirts and dresses, etc. But there was an explanation of when you can get away with not wearing them, and I can't find it!!!!! ARGH!!!! If I do I will post the link.
Me personally, don't wear them in the summer when I have a tan and am wearing open toed shoes. However, if I am going out in the evening, tan or not I wear them.....

I think the trend here is not fashion, exactly. Instead I think it is part of the overall tendency of attire to be more casual than in the past. I am still kind of old fashioned about it -- to me, not wearing hose with dresses or skirts is too casual for church, weddings, funerals, court appearances, and sometimes work (depending on your office dress code "business casual" versus "business formal"). So I still wear hose if I am going someplace that requires a dressy look.
Think about how things have changed. When you see photos of football games from the 50s and 60s, the people are dressed in suits and ties for men, and dresses for women. They looked as nice as if they were going to church. Now, people wear any old thing. Or wear no shirt and write stuff on their bellies. For some reason, only men seem to do the no shirt with belly writing thing...

i haven't worn pantyhose in a looooong time. in the summer i wear open toed shoes, and whenever i wear open toed shoes, i won't wear pantyhose because it makes it even warmer and my toes looked webbed and i despise it when women wear pantyhose with open toed shoes. i have a pair of pantyhose with specially made for open toed shoes but it doesn't look right to me.
i wear pantyhose sometimes in the fall and winter cause it keeps my legs a little warmer. but i tend to just wear tall boots to keep my legs warm. leather boots vs. a sheer layer of nylon? pfft.
as for the ins and outs of pantyhose, i'd say out. either match it with your skin tone or just don't wear any.
