It's an Expert System. There are specific languages that can help build such a system (like Clips (http://www.ghg.net/clips/WhatIsCLIPS.html) from NASA). Basically you let the system figure it out for you by defining some rules, instead of programming all the possibilities. This one has a connection with IMDB. Neat stuff.
