Went to the "Concert for Tsunami Relief" last night.

An all-Canadian effort, it featured Delerium, Chantal Kraviazuk/Raine Maida (from Our Lady Peace), Bruce Cockburn, Barenaked Ladies, and Sarah McLachlan.

The show rocked the collective Kazbah!

I've wanted to see Delerium (http://www.delerium.com) for a long time. They're a side project of FrontLine Assembly... Sarah McLachlan came out and performed Silence (http://www.delerium.com/media/samples/Karma-Silence.wav) with them at the end, which totally rocked!

Folk artist (and philanthropist) Bruce Cockburn (http://www.brucecockburn.com/) came onstage next and absolutely rocked. He was the only other act I hadn't seen before, and I've been a fan of his work for quite a while. Bruce has been all over the world volunteering for various charities and doing PSAs for different services. He had a bit of a hit back in 89 with "If a tree falls" if that rings any bells... and another that I'll get to in a moment ;)

Next was the lovely Chantal Kraviazuk (http://www.chantalonline.com/index.html) doing her thing on the piano. I've seen her play several times, she's quite the pianist! She played Time (http://www.chantalonline.com/Samples/Time.ram) and a couple other tunes, then her husband, Raine Maide (from Our Lady Peace (http://www.ourladypeace.com/) came and they palyed a duet, including Innocent (http://www.ourladypeace.com/Samples/Innocent.ram) and the always classic "Bridge over Troubled Water"...

The Barenaked Ladies (http://www.bnlmusic.com) were next and did a bunch of their hits, including One Week (http://www.warnerreprise.com/qt-ref/bnl_oneweek_ref.mov) , Pinch me (http://www.warnerreprise.com/qt-ref/bnl_pinchme_ref.mov) and, as an added bonus, they performed the song that got them their big break. It was a cover of an old classic titled Lovers in a Dangerous Time (http://www.brucecockburn.com/anything.html), by Bruce Cockburn, and guess who came out to play it with them! :D Fan-Freaking tastic! BNL are true performers, and they never disappoint!

The show finished with Lilith idol, Sarah Mclachlan (http://www.sarahmclachlan.com/). Again, another fantastic performer, performing World on Fire (http://www.nettwerk.com/media/ram/SarMc_WorOnFi.ram) among others...

Hosted by comedians Brent Butt (Star of Corner Gas (http://www.cornergas.com/) and Rick Mercer (formerly of This hour has 22 minutes (http://www.22minutes.com/)), two icons of Canadian comedy, they rounded of a fantastic concert. :D

It was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time! :D :bounce:

I only had two small problems :irate:

Let's just put it this way. If you're gonna spend $50 or more to go see a concert. Shut the frell up and let others enjoy it. This young person sitting beside me made Shrek's Donkey sound like he'd taken a vow of silence... :gnash:

Ah well, last concert I was at I could barely hear myself, much less anyone else.

Sounds like a fun concert, wish I could have gone. I love "Silence" and BNL is always awesome.

It was an absolute blast, Ashley!

"Silence" is one of my favourite Delerium tunes, and to see them perform it with Sarah was amazing. I actually called it, too! I turned around to Carrie and said, "wouldn't it be great if Sarah came out to do 'silence' with them?" and then who walks on stage? :D

Did it again with BNL. Back in the late 80's/early 90's, they cut a 6-track demo "the yellow tape" (yes, an actual audio cassette tape!) and made a shoestring budget video of a cover of Bruce Cockburn's "Lovers in a Dangerous Time." The video and tape got them noticed by a major lable, all of the tracks from the "yellow" tape wound up on Gordon (except "Lovers" ) and the rest is history. About halfway through their set, I turned again to Carrie with a "it would rock so hard if Cockburn came out to do "Lovers" with the BNL!" and seconds later, a grip brought an extra mike onstage! :D

PS. It's pronounced "Co-Burn," the ck is silent! ;) :innocent:
