View Full Version : Two Crichtons or where was Claudia?

I joined Farscape after the two Crichton episodes ( green john, black john). I have since then, of course seen those eps. I was wondering, if there was a particular reason, other than
the story line, why we only saw Claudia, every other episode during that
period of season three.

I thought perhaps those of you who were here from the begining might know.

Thank you.

Spoilers!

After Moya's crew had to split up in an effort to escape a retreival squad assigned to capture Talyn and Crais. Both Moya and Talyn (due to the circumstances) had to starbust to safty but alas they lost contact with each other. Aboard Moya was: Jool, Dargo, Chiana, and Moya-John. Aboard Talyn was: Crais, Stark, Rygel, Aeryn and Talyn-John. Everyother episode shown after the two ships parted tells the story of what was happening to the crews of Moya and the crews of Aeryn. Aeryn is only with one John and in only half the episodes... Until, well - I don't want to spoil what happens next...

Ok, I know this, I have seen the eps since then.
In real life, did Claudia have a problem that she couldn't be there?
If it was just the story line, I understand. I was wondering if there was
an actual reason other than the story line.

as far as i know it was just for storyline reasons, because anthony simcoe and the rest of the the crew of moya also had every other episode off. so it was probably ust storyline related.

I always thought it was just the story line...

As a side note: In Battlestar Galactica, (which I hated at first because it wasn't like the old show but now I love because of the personal story-lines) the multiple Cylon-human-look-a-likes kinda remind me of the 2-John story line in Farscape...

A friend keeps telling me to watch BSG.
Then I think back to the beginning of Farscape.
Once the first season aired I'd felt I missed too much backstory.

I may have to catch BSG.

There's back story you would have to catch up on.

I had to work hard on "letting go" of the old Battlestar Galactica but the chemistry between characters on the new show and between characters and their own memories hooked me. The writing improves (less amaturish? Or, maybe - I'm being more forgiving) with each episode.

I'm sure there will be a BG marathon some weekend on SciFi. Also, I bet SciFi has a website for BG that has episode synopsis on it. I haven't been to such a site but I would be shocked that there wasn't...

It's no Farscape - but - what is?

Except Lani was in every ep as well.

Good Catch! Lani is Piot too right?!

no it's not Farscape, but it's just as good in my opinion. The show rocks with really great storylines and really good characters.

only thing I have a problem with is there are only going to be 13 episodes a season, which will bug me, I mean, what if Farscape only had 13 episodes a season?

yes, Lani was in all the episodes in one incarnation or another.

The stated reason for the back and forth with the two crews was that those that wore the heavy makeup could be given a break from wearing it. You will notice those that wear the prostetics were all on Moya. It was also an interesting way to have the two Crichton's around and interacting with at least part of the crew without having to do split screens and have them tripping over each other all the time.

Although, I for one would have liked to have seen them together more. Not that I didn't enjoy watching what was put forth.

I agree. I liked how the two Crighton's stories diverged and how the relationship between M-John and Dargo matured as well as how the relationship between T-John and Crais matured. But, that being said - it would have been so much fun watching the to Crightons firing of wise-cracks at each other!

I especially enjoyed the interaction between Rygel and Stark.
While on Moya Chianna was warming up to Jool...although she always gave her dren.

I liked the back and forth thing. Added quite a lot to the story.

I remember “distantly” interviews from the cast talking about how they enjoyed the free time in those episodes - because working on science fiction sets is grueling work,
so I think the alternative reasons where along the lines of making things a little easier on the cast.

Do we have any idea of how much time the two crews spent apart?

I don't wish to question your judgment and I know that it's now several months later but how is mentioning that the actors enjoyed their time off considered to be an invasion of their privacy? Dicussing what they did during their time off, where the actors live, who they are dating, etc. would be much more private. I'm not requesting that the warning be removed. I'd just like an explanation of exactly what the problem is because I really don't see any harm in speculating that the producers may have wanted to give the cast and crew a bit of a break.

This is just speculation based on the amount of time they suggest has passed on the show and on the way the characters acted when they saw each other again, but I'm guessing they spent at least several months apart.

as far as storyline goes. I think it was the best way to do it. Instead of jumping back and forth in one episode to tell whats going on in each ship but to give them a full episode for each one.

You're assuming that "mentioning that the actors enjoyed their time off" is what the warning applied to, which is not the case.

"Discussing what they did during their time off, where the actors live, who they are dating" as well as asking if a cast member had a personal problem--which was the reason the warning was repeated--are all not appropriate. Period.

I trust that explanation is clear.

Oops, my bad. :O

And I completely agree with that. :)

You're quite wrong here. While there are 13 episodes in season 1, there are 20 episodes in season 2, and my understanding is Scifi has given the go ahead for 20 more episodes for season 3.

Neither was a clone- they were both the original. :)

Claudia did talk about the idea of cloning Chrichton on one of the disc's for season three, she did explain a bit, but didn't say that her absense was a personal matter.
That really isn't any of our business. The point is it was a good idea to clone chrichton,
and i loved that idea!

The question wasn't about the private life of the cast. The question was about a "real life" reason, which could very easily be a professional reason. For all the person knows who was asking the question, Claudia could've been in the middle of filming a movie during that time period and was only available half the time. That's not the case, but it's a legitimate question.

In fact, there's it would be impossible for Aeryn to be in all the eps because her character was off on Talyn. I think the idea was to give everyone but Ben some time off and a chance to catch up on all the ADR they do.

CM, I don't know why you feel compelled to answer a thread that 1) did not involve you and 2) has been handled and over for weeks now.

It is not your place to make moderation decisions. I suggest you read Jul's admin reminder here (http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35627), and PM her or me if you need further clarification.

Since this thread seems to keep causing more trouble than it's worth, it's now locked.
