Actually, sadly, all I had for dinner last night was a handful of Doritos. :( I was too lazy to make anything....

I was hankering for mash but ended up stopping in at the local Chinese buffet instead as it was already late when I left work .... I went home still wanting mashed potatoes :pace: ...

must have it for lunch today

I actually went home, planning to make mashed, but got lazy and make Uncle Ben's rice instead.

I had mashed taters. I probably would've eaten them anyway, regardless of this thread, because they were serving them at the caf.

I didn't have anything resembling potatoes. I made a grilled cheese. On a george foreman grill - cause I'm just too lazy to flip it over in a pan :)

I had whipped potatoes in the fridge, but I had hot dogs. Unfortunately, they were not Nathan's hot dogs. And no, I didn't take them from someone named Nathan. Though I do know a Nathan. He likes hot dogs, but he lives in DC. I live in NYC. And I wouldn't take his hot dogs anyway, because he's a nice guy.

at least you can cook. i go to the cafeteria at school and there really isn't much in the way of healthy or appetizing. there's plenty of mashed but it's stuff that shouldn't be mashed.

try this:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_28351,00.htmlyeee... sounds dreadful...

take round steak, cut into strips, and pound until tenderized (put in a plastic bag so that you don't splatter all over the kitchen). Then you take the meat, dip it into a raw scrambled egg (add a little milk to the egg if desired), then roll in seasoned crushed cracker or bread crumbs. Fry it up, and serve it with mashed spuds, green beans, and milk gravy...

It does sound good. I roll mine in flour with lots of pepper..now I'm hungry.

Kathleen
03-31-2005, 06:58 PM
That's normally how I do mine, too, who.... I use the egg/milk mixture and then roll it in flour with salt, pepper, lemon pepper and seasoning salt.

Which is better, LL? The crackers or the breadcrumbs? In your opinion, of course. I would think the breadcrumbs would put a thicker crust on it, which is just.. mmmmmmm..

Lord Loser
03-31-2005, 07:08 PM
I've never used anything but crushed saltines or ritz. I imagine breadcrumbs would be tasty though. After all, the smaller the size of the crumbs, the better the coverage on the steak...

So it's called chicken fried steak because the steak is dipped in egg??

So it's called chicken fried steak because the steak is dipped in egg??

I believe the term came from how it sort of resembles boneless chicken breast when it's done... and that the technique is the same for frying good chicken

It's called chicken fried steak, because it's a steak that is prepared much like fried chicken. As opposed to chicken fried chicken, I suppose. Clear as mud? I thought so...

We have the best chicken fried steaks i've ever tasted at the steakhouse where I work, and I've eaten them a lot of places. They are about the size of a dinner plate and taste awesome! They mix cracker crumbs and breadcrumbs together, and just a little bit of flour. With REAL mashed potatoes and milk gravy, and big ole Mt. Dew, there's nothing better.
