Prayers needed for a furry friend

I know this might sound a little strange to some of you but I'm really stressed out about this, and would appreciate some good vibes toward my ferret Tweakers. He had major surgery on his stomach about a week and a half ago, and now he's suddenly crashed. My mom had to rush him over to the animal hospital this afternoon. It turns out he's running a fever of 103 (101 is normal), is having a hard time breathing, and is severely dehydrated. No one knows what is wrong with him, although a post-op infection is suspected. Right now the vet has him on an iv drip and he's under 24 hour surveillance, but I don't know if he'll even make it through the night. I would greatly appreciate any good thoughts or vibes you could send his way.

oh, I hope he pulls through! I've had the rollercoaster ride with the health of small animals way too many times. But good thing he has someone like you who loves him enough to take such good care of him! :hug:

Thanks for all the good thoughts guys! I've been riding the stress rollercoaster these past few weeks. The good news is that Tweakers is back home and acting a little bit more like his old self. We're still not sure what's wrong with him, but the vet's best guess is that getting sick and needing surgery pushed Tweaker's pancrease over the edge and gave him insulinoma (that's basically like diabetes for ferrets). So he's on three different medications right now and I'll have to wait and see how well he responds to them before anything else can be done. Once again, thank you everyone for your good thoughts! :hug:

Clarsax, I just spotted this thread. :hug: I'm glad to hear Tweakers is over the crisis and you're both in my prayers -- I had to give insulin shots to one of my kitties for quite a while when she developed diabetes in her later years.

I'm very sorry for your loss...just remember, they never leave you...you just get used to living without them. It's so hard I know, I've lost 5 of my pets in just 2 years.
