I wonder if they measured the water in Imperial or Metric units (or a combination of the two! ;) )

Well....the martian samples seem to be measured in metric.....lets see, two pieces each of 58g....thats 116g or 0.116kg....not including the atmospheric covering of the wrapper, a strange and exclusively martian phenomena.
Now the water is contained with a region of the planetry body known commonly as "a pint glass", which refers to an ancient form of measurement known as Imperial, (obviously refering to the Days of the Imperial Empire of the Dark Lord of the Sith). Now it would seem from the picture that the pint glass is neither half full, nor half empty....a right result cause otherwise there would be much side discussion of the optimist/pessimist views and the meaning of life, (See Monty Python for further reference).
Now, at three quarters full, and with 0.56830333333333333333333333333 litres to the pint.......this ammounts to (damn where in hezmana did I put that calculator!.....arrrggh.....oh here it is)....0.37886888888886666666666666666667 litres which of course is approximately .378 kg weight, assuming that there are no impurities in the water, (no additives or E numbers or MSG which is more than can be said for the martian sample).
At approximately 0.1kg the glass and the water combined weighs approximately 0.478 kg and should throeretically have squashed the martian soil sample.
