We all know that the writing on Farscape is far superior to most "dren" that is out there now. Particularly in the department of curse words. I mean they just seem to flow right out and are instantly recognizable to their english counterparts. I mean, I loaned out my DVD's to a coworker (who never heard of farscape before) and now (2wks later) he is "Frell" this and "Frell" that. It actually becomes part of the vocabulary.

Now the other day I was watching Battle Star Galactica and they bust out the word Freck or something like that and it seems to cause the whole sceen to go to crap instantly. The word sticks out like a sore thumb and sounds like nails running across a chalk board.

Does this bother anyone else or am I just projecting my anger for farscape being canceled on this show?

Frak, and yes I always thought the word sounded odd. The Farscape words just roll out, and sound so natural.

The problem with "frak" is that it's a hard sounding word, so it sticks out. The first fictional swear word I ever heard used was "Smeg" (http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/). :D

What about "Belgium"? ;)

Actually 'frak' sounds much to close to 'flak' for me. Which was, of course, the intent, but there is a line writers don't want to cross and that one crosses it for me I am afraid.

Everytime they use it I am pulled out of the story.

yeah I hate the word frak, it somehow grates on the ear. My favorit curse word is frell I cant stop using it!. Dren comes a close second.

"Frell" is great, isn't it? I just scaped my office mate (he's halfway through Season 1) and FS curse words have become our secret language. We're having a frelling great time of it!

My sister's dog's name is Shmegga. Yay, we spelled it wrong.

Look at it this way: even though the new BSG has kept "frak", at least they dropped "felgercarb".

Flegercarb? Who is the genius that came up with that phonetic trainwreck.

Personally, I've always found Spedoinkel to be a very handy all-purpose curse word -- as in:

"Try that again and I'll kick the frelling Spedoinkel out of you!"

or

"Who the Spedoinkel ate all the macadamia chocolate chip cookies?"

or the ever-popular (and extremely witty)

"Spedoinkel you, buddy!"
