What makes you relax the most?

Damn. Damn damn. For relaxation purposes, it's a tie between Mortal Coil and DCD, but I do like DCD a little more. Acceptable edge?

DEAD CAN DANCE - "Black Sun"
Murderer!
Man of fire.
Murderer!
I've seen the eyes of living dead.
It's the same game - survival.
The great mass play a waiting game.
Embalmed, crippled, dying in fear of pain.
All sense of freedom gone.
Black sun in a white world.
Like having a black sun in a white world.
I have a son,
His name is Eden.
It's his birthright,
Beyond estranged time.
Give me 69 years,
Another season in this hell.
It's all sex and death as far as I can tell.
Like Prometheus we are bound,
Chained to this rock of a brave new world,
Our godforsaken lot.
And I feel that's all we've ever needed to know,
'Til worlds end and the seas run cold.
Give me 69 years,
Another season in this hell.
There is sex and death
In mother nature's plans.
Like Prometheus we are bound,
Chained to this rock of a brave new world,
Our godforsaken lot.
oddly enough it is a relaxing song.

hmmm...well to relax I would have to say Enya. I do like Mortal Coil, but Enya has a very soothing voice to relax to.

Lorrena McKennitt - Dante's Prayer
When the dark wood fell before me
And all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way
I tilled the sorrows of stone
I did not believe because I could not see
Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost
You showed me your love in the light of the stars
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Then the mountain rose before me
By the deep well of desire
From the fountain of forgiveness
Beyond the ice and the fire
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Though we share this humble path, alone
How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly
To touch the face of the stars
Breathe life into this feeble heart
Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears
We'll rise above these earthly cares
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me...

There are three trance mods that I have that I can still relax to. 'tiara (http://www.veshgfx.com/mod/u_tiara.xm)', 'after sunset (http://www.veshgfx.com/mod/aftersunset.s3m)' and 'Darshan (http://www.veshgfx.com/mod/ad_darsh.it)'.
*sigh* Too bad the mod scene got overcrowded with rugrats making silly mainstream-sounding BS, it used to be a place for some true progression in electronic music, even if it was limited technically.

Just went to a performance of Golden Bough last night. Amazing, they are. Celtic, Scottish, Irish, gypsy, etc. songs. Lots of instruments for only three performers. Check them out if they come to your town!

Well, of the three, I went with "This Mortal Coil", but I could have just as easily have chosen "Dead Can Dance". Both are good!
But to really relax I listen to French classical music, Faure, Ravel, Debussy....nothing quite as soothing!

for the relative genre: Love Spirals Downwards, Delerium (primarily their songs with vocals :d), Slowdive, among others. I certainly like Dead Can Dance and This Mortail Coil as well, but Suzanne Perry's voice is just amazing (Lum is a good songwriter of course too). DCD/TMC are sort of dark for ethereal, and along those lines there is Black Tape for a Blue Girl which is awesome too.

Metallica's not on the list?!!?!? (LOL)
I won't be able to REALLY relax till after 4/30 (personal taxes 4/15 & the rest of the payroll taxes 4/20-5/2)...Then I'll breathe & listen to some jazz...
BTW, the only artist I recognize is Enya, as well...I guess I don't get out much anymore

as an aside, what did you think of rachel's solo album, motorwerk?
MotorWerk
04-12-2005, 01:15 PM
I really don't like much of the singer/songwriter music... but I had to buy the album, since I'm a fan of hers. I think her solo album is better than Neil's.

Fair enough. I am a fan of some singer/songwriter stuff but I do agree that their solo material is just a shadow of previous. Not that I mind it if it's on :>
