Frell... my home phone line has been dead since yesterday (realized it last night when i tried to call my Dad). My local phone company's "hours of service" isn't 24-hours, and when I called this morning from work I got endless menu trees instead of a live person. The up-shot?.... service ain't happenin' until Monday morning......grrrrrrrrrrrr....
I have no cell phone (shocking, isn't it?), and my home internet connection is via dial-up. So, no FMD or e-mails during the evenings or the weekend from home.

wow. that REALLY sucks. I'm sorry.
My internet and phone are both through the cable company. So when our cable goes out we're totally screwed - no tv, no internet, no phone! It's scary having to live the way people used to.... :eek2:

My area recently had a powercut in the evening which lasted into the night and everything in my house requires electric to work so I had no 'phone, no internet, no lights, not heat, no nothing - a battery radio and a torch & a few tealights were no substitute for technology!
For my own sanity I drove to the nearest 24 hour supermarket that had power and just spent ages walking round and round, reading their books & magazines and watching their TV's - though I did stick some candles and batteries in a basket. Fortunately I wasn't the only insane one - I saw at least three other people from my street doing the same thing :D

:kotc: I can't help with the phone thing, but I'll go kiss your nephew if it'll make you feel better. ;) :lol
Sorry for your troubles though. I hate the endless menu trees. Especially the ones where you can't just hit 0 to connect to an operator. That is frustrating.
Good luck. We'll miss you this weekend! You ought to go to a cyber cafe or something. :D

Very odd.... after three whole days w/o phone service, suddenly this afternoon... my phone rang! Of course, it was a TELEMARKETER (grumble-grumble). I politely said that I wasn't interested in their product/service, but I also thanked them for inadvertantly letting me know that my phone line started working again.
It still has static on the line, but at least I'm able to make & receive calls. The serviceman is coming out Monday morning anywayz. The junction box outside my apt building is partially open and exposing the wires. D'ja think that's the problem?
*sigh*Well... I'm off to finish doin' laundry.

Dude, you should have enjoyed the silence... Got rid of the landline last year and ain't lookin' back... The chick at Qwest was like, 'you're not going to have a phone at all?' "um, CELLPHONE? Nights/weekends and long distance free? why would I have a landline?" 'Oh.' :rollin: Took me a while to figure out how to get internet w/o phone in my area, but once I did, later-gator. I have to have the cell, in case my kids need to contact me, anyway... My cell is also on the Colo. DO-NOT-FRELLING-CALL-ME-LIST... So, no telemarketers either.
So maybe you should make a change... cuz dialup is a vega with a warped cylinder head, y'know? And some of the package deals are reletively good for a bundle, although they sometimes jack the price later, watch out for that...
best of luck ;)

I got abso-frelling-lutely had it with SBC. After we moved something changed and put us on the no-way-are-they gettig cheap phone service anymore. Before, we spent about $40 buck or so one our phone service with all our long distance and everything. I spent THREE months changing around our services after we moved and couldn't get the monthly bill under $75.
We switched last month to the cable phone and have really liked it, not only is the monthly cost lower than what we were paying the phone company, but now we get a discount on the cable modem as well.
After I switched, I've gotten all these calls from SBC trying to "Keep my business." I tell them I gave them months to give me a good deal and hang up.
As for cell phones, my hubby and I are paranoid about using them as our primary source for communication after my aunt died of cancer with great big clusters of growths everyplace her cell habitually rested - right ear, left breast and right hip. I don't think it gave her the cancer, but we can't help but think her 'round the clock cell use might have exacerbated things. So we use the Tracphones because we hardly use the 150 minutes that come with a year's service.

That's exactly what we're doing with our apt...no landlines, just cells. Cheaper and easier, IMO. :)

Well, I THOUGHT I got my home phone line fixed yesterday. Turns out not to be the case. Major static remains on the line. Apparently, there are faulty and/or wet wires within the building (the lines go behind the walls and up across the ceiling (under the roof... that leaks...) in my apt complex. SBC doesn't cover service inside the building... only TO the building. And I am responsible for wiring within my apt. So, THAT means the apt complex should be responsible for the wiring within the walls, right??? :eh:
This should be a reeeeeeally interesting phone call to my apt manager.
I shall keep y'all posted.

The Landlord IS the one that will be getting them replaced. Its HIS property.

em, I'm thinkin this would be a good time to quitely get line-backer added to your phonebill... Qwest used to charge about $5/mo for it, but then they were on the hook [no pun] to make EVERYTHING WORK... I will guess you're gonna revisit this problem...
ETA: Yeah BC, but this is the landlord who lets the roof leak...

love my cable modem & I also have phone service through the cable company...another benefit to that is IF we ever move (yeah, right!) then our number goes with us...As I've had that number FOREVER, it would be quite impractical to go through all the rigamarole entailed with an address/phone number change...YUCK.
Also the boss at the CPA office has a cable modem as well...makes for lots of fun while on breaks!
