So I paid this year for a dorm that has air conditioning. It's May 9 and it's in the 80's. They say that they were going to turn it on a week ago, but when they went to do it, it was broke. They ordered the part and just got it today and are "working hard" to get it fixed. We were supposed to get it this afternoon but when I called they said now it won't be until tomorrow morning.
I paid nearly $400 extra to get AC!!! And I have a final tonight, a final paper due tomorrow and it is awful to try and sleep like this! I'm in a dorm and so there are tons of us all living so close together and I only have one window with very little air flow.
I realize that people live without AC... but I PAID for it!
I'm so tired of this school! Why can't they ever think about the students who pay their bills?

 and if they don't have it fixed in the morning, I'd suggest going to the registrar or someone at the school that can maybe light a fire under the butts of the people "fixing" the problem!

Just wait. It get's better. Wait until you graduate and they send you alumni donation letters. "We'd love to have you keep paying us even though we gouged you for every staple, paperclip, piece of paper, etc. while you were a student here...
Show your school pride!"
Pro rate the bill out, and send them one with the same type of interest and penalties that they'd charge you if you were late with something. Typical school dren...

You could ask for a refund as they did not supply A/C.

It would never happen. Once they get your money, there's no way in hell they'll ever give it back.

Maybe you could ask for it to be applied to next year's accommodations - if there's a next year that is.
I figure if you don't ask you don't get anything. At least if you ask you have a 50% chance of getting your cash back or reapplied to next semester.

I feel your pain. I didnt have AC and well, didn't pay for it, but my school wasn't even going to turn the heat off until everyone moved out last friday. How dumb is that?

I'm sorry, but I"m still boggled that you have to PAY for air conditioning now... When I was in college, A/C was part of the "package"... you didn't pay for it, it was just THERE..

my dorm didn't have a/c. and we had those crappy radiators instead of forced air heat. they would crack and pop and burn you if you weren't careful :dunno:

Well, I payed EXTRA to live in a dorm that had AC.
AuyRocks... that is dumb! My heat was just turned off this morning. (We can turn the heat or AC off and on in the room while it's active).
Lord Loser, I've already decided that this school will not get another cent from me after I graduate. And when the kids call me for my money (it's a work-study job) I'll tell them all the ways MU screwed me while I was there and tell them they should transfer.
My two best friends are already transferring out because they're tired of dealing with this school. One of them keeps having money disappear off of his meal card with no explanation.

reasons I don't believe in post-secondary education (for most things).

My school has air-con, but its controlled by the office, and everyone has become somewhat dependent on it, so when it breaks down...there is mass hysterics, because no one can control the system from their individual rooms.

Well, the air coming out of the unit in my room is a little cooler, but it's still hot in here.

Well, they fixed the unit in the main classroom/office building and it feels pretty great in there. But they're "still working on" the unit for the dorms.

The high today and tomorrow is supposed to be in the 90's and we just got word that the air won't be on in the dorms until Thur. which is when I have an 8AM final. I'll have a nice hot night to try and get some sleep before it.
Sorry I keep complaining. But it really does help to just get it out. Thanks for listening.

Just thought I'd let you all know my AC finally went on today. B/f had some problems with the one in his room and I had to call and complain to get someone to come fix it since it was 5 minutes from quitting time. They were going to wait to fix it until tomorrow- and there are finals tomorrow so they need sleep tonight!! I did finally get them to fix it though.
So everyone is cool and happy!! :)
Hooray!!!

The college year ends before summer even begins. Why would you pay for AC when you may never even have a chance to use it or just use it a few times?

Because since so many people live in dorms the heat gets hot a lot faster. Plus all of our electronics we fit into these tiny spaces. And dorm rooms weren't made to allow any air flow.
