I had a dog like that, but it made truly candid shots impossible.
But, again, that is a great pic of your cat.

Belgian Schipperkes are small dogs, females 10-14lbs, males 12-16lbs. USA AKC rules say they have to be all black, though in Europe different colours are allowed. They have a similar shape to Pomeranians (though they are somewhat larger than that), with a long, sharp nose and pointed close-set ears, dark almond-shaped eyes, a ruff or collar of longer hair around their head and shoulders, and fluffy knickers or pantaloons. Schipperkes are used on the barges, let loose to run in packs of 6-10 dogs that keep the rats down and ward off intruders. Very bright, full of personality, very energetic, active, engaging characters.

Very nice picture. Steve looks quite intelligent too. There is a 365 day calendar that uses cat photos people send in. You've missed the deadline for this year, but if you want Steve to have a potentially wider audience, you might send it in for next year.

I took a nice piccie last summer of one of my cats PetMe, sitting in a clump of bushes that had newly emerged cicadas all over it. I sent it in this year, and I hope he makes the cut. You don't get anything for your cat's picture ending up in the calendar except vanity rights. If PetMe's picture is chosen, I'll have to order about 10 or more calendars to send to everyone I know!

BTW, I have a female cat named Rusty. She is an orange tabby and makes a rusty sqeaking noise when she purrs. My designiated spousal unit said we could not girlie up her name with some yuppie spelling like Rusti, so its "Rusty".
