Dell Axim X30

624 mhz Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition

And Wi-Fi! whoo!

I'm pretty happy. My mom thinks that if I want to organize, I should just be able to do it with pen and paper like she does. Whatever.

i would really use a notebook like i did last semester...but i find that i am more capable of keeping track of a 400 dollar piece of equipment than i am a 3 dollar notebook.

I can't live without my PDA anymore (HP hx4700). You should also try out Pocket Informant (http://www.pocketinformant.com/products_info.php?p_id=pi&dir=wm) instead of the built-in calendar/tasks. It's far more powerful and works like a charm! And for navigating, try TomTom Navigator (http://www.tomtom.com/).

. . . My mom thinks that if I want to organize, I should just be able to do it with pen and paper like she does. Whatever.Yeah, what's up with older people and their pen and paper calendars?

But a number of college students buy these PDA's to show their friends and talk about it. It's like buying home exercise machines, buying cookbooks, and buying low-fat cookies. Many people buy it with good-intentions to get themselves organized, but aren't using the PDA's after 3 months, they switch back to the paper calendar-booklets or switch to a laptop. :)

I have though, met two people that have used these for a long time. One was a freelance carpenter who used it to do email, because he couldn't easily carry his laptop around in his toolbelt.

The other was a petitioner who used it to check voter registration status via internet-access, and didn't want to leave his laptop unattended while collecting signatures. While walking the streets, he could easily carry his PDA around in a pouch.

But I've also seen journalists walking around with them too.

You'de be suprised. ;)Yep, one lady said that she didn't take her PDA out as much as the $5.00 calendar-booklets because she was to so afraid of leaving it somewhere or getting it stolen. (expendability).
When she was doing her scheduling, or checking it, usually she's in-between doing things that are hanging, and that's when she's more likely to place it somewhere and forget it.

With paper, she can scribble, and remember other thoughts based upon that scribble. It's harder to remember visions when looking at text.

Also, she said it takes longer to scroll thru menus and use that pen stick. With one of those day-timer purse-books, she just dog-ears a page, flips directly to it. :)

seeming that my cell phone is an extension of my own hand, i doubt i'd lose my PDA.

i'm more technology oriented anyway...i can write notes just fine but i'm such a perfectionist that if my notes aren't the way i want them, i'll start brand new and start to copy them over to the way i want them to be. so if i used a PDA for minor notes, then i wouldn't have to be such a perfectionist because typing is always so much neater than scribbling.

basically what i need my PDA for is to keep track of assignments (not even the notebook could help me do that), keep phone numbers and contact information (things i can't always get to) and i want to be able to do interviews using my PDA. which means that if I get a portable keyboard, I could just set it up with a tape recorder and instead of scribbling down notes as fast as i can until my hand is sore while the person prattles on, i can just type. i type faster than i write (most people do) and i wouldn't have to worry about the tape recorder possibly not getting the audio.

which reminds me...i need to get a keyboard. i didn't get it with dell because i wasn't sure if that was the best deal.

anyone know a good reliable company that makes mini PDA keyboards?
