Hey guys. I got my PDA yesterday and I want to have a few songs on it, just to see what I can do with it. Instead of downloading, or buying and downloading a song I already have, what are the best programs to use when converting CD's to MP3s?

Cakewalk's Pyro 2004 is inexpensive ($49 as a physical product from BestBuys, $29 as a download) yet professional. If you have iTunes, you can also use that. Just import your CDs as MP3s into iTunes, then burn them (in any song order you want) onto a CD-R(W).

I've found that Windows Media Player does as good a job as any. I-Tunes works fine too. It's a pretty basic function of any music software, so I don't think you can go wrong.
Assuming you have Windows XP, have you tried just inserting a cd and clicking "Rip music from cd using Windows Media Player" on the popup window?

I use Windows Media Player to rip the songs from the CDs to make them into mp3 format. Then they can go on my IPOD. That's how I get through without downloading too much music. :D

Some good (and free) ones are:
Exact Audio Copy (EAC) (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/)
dBpowerAMP (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm)
CDex (http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/)
I get the best mileage out of EAC when ripping copy protected cd's for my mp3 player.

I've got dBpowerAMP at it works very well.
I could be wrong, but last I checked, you needed to buy a separate codec for WMP to convert to mp3. As my mp3 player takes WMAs that's all I use.

Exact Audio Copy is considered the standard among many when ripping cds to mp3s (use variable bit rate). Ogg Vorbis is pretty popular these days too.

Both programs may require a little reading and time setting up.

Get CDex from the link that Baseline posted. Best program I've used for CD ripping and it's free.
