I realize that we've all been a bit concentrated the last few days on the terror in London, but I just wanted to make sure all of our Gulf Coast Scapers are okay, too...

In case you aren't from here, we have a MAJOR hurricane heading our direction... As it stands right now, Hurricane Dennis is on the verge of becoming a Category 4 hurricane. This is frightening!!! I live about 5 hours north of New Orleans and about 5 1/2 hours north of Gulfport/Biloxi, Mississippi. With each new update, the projected path pushes it further west towards that area. According to the maps that I've seen, it looks to hit somewhere between Mobile, Alabama and Biloxi, Mississippi. We've already seen a TON of people headed up this direction on the evac. routes. All of the hotels in the nearby larger towns are full. Some people are moving on up towards Arkansas and Tennessee to find lodging.

The extreme western panhandle of Florida is going to be in a very bad, bad place as it will be in that critical right front quadrant. So if all of our Central Gulf Coast Scapers and West Coast Florida Scapers could sound off letting us know you're all safe, that would be great!!!!

*praying for all our Scapers in this area*

Here's one of the latest images of Hurricane Dennis... If you'll notice, the eye of the hurricane is very symmetrical.. This means that it's not getting any wind shear... In other words, there's nothing in the way of this storm to keep it from intensifying...

He seems tp be getting closer to Texas every minute. Gonna keep an eye on the Weather Channel tonight.

I don't think it will get over towards Texas... The path right now has it going NorthWest at 14 mph. It's been on that track since it came off the Cuban coast. At that time, it's maximum sustained winds were down to 100 mph. They're back up to 125 mph, but the hurricane hunters said on their last run into the center, they were getting buffeted at 9-10,000 feet up with 150 mph winds. Can you imagine????

I just helped a good friend move to the west coast of Florida last weekend. Thankfully, he's been doing ok.

Kel, I hope you guys are prepared. As many people learned last year, a hurricane's effects can be felt quite a ways inland.

It looks like he is gonna miss Florida. Louisiana looks like the prime target now.

The launch of Discovery is still a go. It looks like Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama will take the blow.

As I mentioned last night, I live several hours from the Gulf Coast, but in looking at the weather, we're still in for some hefty winds. We could get some sustained winds upwards of 40 mph. That may not seem like much in comparison to 140 mph winds hitting the coast, but when you consider I'm about 6 1/2 - 7 hours from Mobile, AL, that's some far-reaching winds!! We're already under a flash flood watch, severe thunderstorm watch.... ya know.. all the typical stuff that comes from living in a state where it's common for hurricanes to hit..

I'm continuing to pray and send good vibes to all of our Scapers in that area..

Jen.. I'm glad you checked in.. tell our "friend" I said HI and I"m glad he got out when he did!!! :D

My sis was kicked out (evacuated) from Crestveiw, FL (north of Eglin AFB in Pensacola) so she headed for Gulfport, MS to my mom's house. My best friend, Lauren, who lives in a mobile home in Biloxi, MS headed for Slidell, LA to her parents house. Here in Orlando it is overcast and just a tiny bit breezy, and drizzling. We;ll have more later in the season, I am sure. This was only a test.

We're seeing some of the outer bands making their way up here right now.... I think we'll catch the outer edges of it, but they're still calling for upwards of 3-4 inches of rain over the next 24 hours....

Considering we got less than 2 inches for the ENTIRE month of June, this is gonna be rough.. Plus, the winds are still looking at being between 30 and 40 mph later on tonight and into the early morning hours........ It's gonna be wet and icky and nasty..

samati... glad you checked in!!!! and I'm glad your family is safe and out of harm's way!! With this last minute northward turn, the Weather Channel is saying that Pensacola and Eglin AFB are in the direct path of the eye-wall...

*sigh* The world just can't get a break. This past week our UK Scapers faced with terrorism, now this.

Gulf Coast Scapers....please chime in that you're OK, once the winds die down. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hugs,
Egraine

I live in St. Petersburg, In the Tampa Bay are. All we got was heavy wind and rain, no big deal for us. I actually went to Orlando yesterday to go to Islands Of Adventure Theme Park, no rain there. I just feel bad for Pensacola and that area.
