I'm not a scientist; I'm but a lowly postman. It is not in my power to suddenly become a man of science, so I ask you, the younger and more promising generation, that if you do work in the sciences that you could engage in ways to defeating terrorism.
I have an idea, but it may not yet be plausible, let alone practical.
My idea would be to find a way through synthesis, if that is the right word, and to copy the mechanism that allows a dog to sniff out a bomb.
Yes, I know that may sound almost laughable, but it could at least lead to other short term ideas.
Anyway, my idea was to have something that would be small and obviously cheap enough to be built into bus stops rather than busses themselves, and in that way, you would further minimise the potential loss of life.
If this was at all possible, it would probably take about 15 years, and in which time, perhaps the face of terrorism may change?
I suppose, I'm looking for short term changes, or maybe fresh ideas from people not neccessarilly associated with this kind of task. Personally, I believe we're all inventive - we just haven't got the time or the right tools in the right order to go forward, or in fact the know-how; well I haven't anyway.
