Do you realize that in 2 months the forum will have been around for 3 years... 3 years. What an amazing trip this has been. Anyway, it got me thinking about some of the things that used to be posted here... and some of the members that used to post here that are no longer around. A case of nostalgia, if you will.

So I was thinking that the things that I miss was the frenetic energy that was infused in the forum. There were some wonderful discussions that occured before some members (I include myself in this) got too enthused about some of the topics and got them banned... topics and members. The search for weirder and weirder news articles... the frantic gamesmenship. The totally frank and intense discussions... the shameless flirting... the double and sometimes triple entendre's. Things like that.

Anyway, what do you feel nostalgic about... from the early days of FMD or Kansas... of even Skiffy's old board.

grinner
07-10-2005, 08:05 PM
like the discussions that brought about the Calenders... or that created the first Valentine's candy exchange. I guess you need to be online more than I have been recently (within the last 5 months) to get involved in some of these discussions, but... still and all... we had good times... didn't we?

who45
07-10-2005, 08:11 PM
yep....I miss a lot of that as well.We had very good times and while somethings remain fun here...can it ever be the same? I don't know. I know I for one miss a lot that used to go on around here...ahhh memories. See you need to post more often grinner. :P

I miss flirting with Kechara and AgentSun :(

Roden, you still do that.

I think the board's a little less spontaneous...this time, it's like we come to see the regulars but there isn't a huge amount of 'new' here. New members are always around but it's not as if we've got new ideas or anything.

I think a reason is because the games got their own forum.

grinner
07-10-2005, 08:34 PM

I still think that was a bad idea.

AgentSun
07-10-2005, 08:35 PM
when games were around, there was a lot more activity on the board consistently. i could post for a few hours non stop because of the games and it was really fun. now that they're in another forum, i tend to forget they're even there.

Gotta say "Let's Revel..." thread. Might need to bump up the beauty thread again.

I miss the huge amounts of confessions we used to get.

The FMD "Loveline" we had recently was pretty damn good too.

Some kick ass people did get booted from here, and it sucks. They should get parole or something.

AgentSun
07-10-2005, 09:16 PM

Hu?

In terms of the board as a whole, I miss the campaigning spirit. It seems like now that we got the miniseries and we know the show isn't coming back (at least not as a tv show), there just isn't the drive anymore. I admit I don't spend much time in the campaign thread, and it used to be the only one I went into. Until I got sidetracked into here.... now it's more like I come to see people I know and other silliness more than anything :dunno:

I was living in a house with my brother... and by 1996 we were tired of bumping into each other trying to get online. So when Grand Rapids went digital we were the second house to get high speed internet. That was late 1996, so I just call it 1997

on this crappy SBC set up I have, I pay for 750 kbps but only usually get 370 kbps. When we were early users of the Cable internet, we were seeing speeds over 800 kbps... but that wasn't truly usable as not many sites were able to use that speed.

I know what you guys mean about the energy changing. AS summed it up rather well, I think. These days, FMD is more like a neighborhood bar than anything else. We know pretty much everyone, and we chat about the old, familiar stuff.

g-man, thanks for starting this thread ... I'll be hitting the games later today, and maybe I'll peruse some of the other old threads, too ...

I'll never forget what it was like here the first year or so that I became involved. The insatiable need for news about Farscape, Skiffy, EMTV, Vivendi, the Henson Company, and the competition between people to find it. Cheering on Matt Roush as he mentioned Farscape in every "Ask Matt" column (as he did again today!). The plethora of ideas (some of which seemed too crazy to happen, but which actually did) that got thrown out on a daily basis in the campaign forums. Logging on to this site when I got to work and staying logged on all day, coming in to check things out several times during the day. The way that, even as pissed as we all were, we found ways to make each other laugh with all those wierd and wonderful stories, confessions, games, and haiku. Watching the member numbers climb and climb. Having serious discusssions about the ratings system, and getting smacked down by MediaSavant when we made an error. The palpable feeling of anticipation when a major convention was going on, because we knew we'd get some kind of news from Rockne, DK, Ben, Brian, etc. Reading all of Bonnie Hammer's interviews, and laughing at some of the stupid things she'd say as she defended the decision to cancel the show. Talking about those last few eps, and Farscape Fridays. Waiting for the next cool post card from Ratscape and PK Paul.

I miss those days. I really hope that the show does well in syndication and it spurs us on to campaign again for a movie or a new miniseries.

I miss the snap-bang intensity of new ideas constantly being proposed in the campaign strategizing. It stems from a lot of things, the greatest being those who want to campaign just not knowing which way to go. It'll get easier again, just a matter of when and making sure that enough campaigners are still around.

I miss lacking the time to be as involved as I used to be.

I miss people that we have lost along the way (like Tiriel & DoA).

I look fondly back upon our incidents with the ever "lovable" pisher...

I was, until this thread, missing some of the silly crap that we can all get going.

Hopefully when syndication comes out things will be hopping. I have some evil plans I want to try out next year. Also, think there are new people. We just have show them how it's done. I remember when Ms.Spocks and Firecracker showed up on the SPACE board to complain about Angel being cancelled :elol: Look at those 2 now. They rock my socks every day!!!
I think we will get more newbies like them. :) Also, I am helping some browncoats out so it will do well and we get some more FS. I do think most people think it's over but I am good at changing other peoples minds. ;) Do you know I am nicknamed the Farscape Maven on 2 other boards? One Board even added the BBC cult index of scaper swear words, to help newbies understand what I meant by Frell. :ewink: I know of at least one person who got into Farscape by seeing Ben on Stargate and made sure her library had the whole series on DVD. :) Our evil plans are working. We just have to stick to them that's all. :) I think I will keep slogging through the I have a Plan forum until I finaly figure out a way to get a Bondi Yeti T-shirt (yes I still want one).

The campaign energy was amazing. Anytime there was any little mention of Farscape, anywhere in the media, we were all over it--and it just added fuel to our fire. We raised amazing amounts of money practically overnight for stuff like newspaper ads, special projects and even OT things like ddd's foal project.

We're still a community, but there isn't that same sense of fierce togetherness. We had a common goal, one very dear to all our hearts, and that allowed us to put other things aside and become a single, focused unit. I think once the mini was announced, we all sort of relaxed a bit, and that urgency faded. We became more ourselves instead of "Scaper soldiers," and that's when the infighting and problems really started.

Hopefully we'll get some good news on the Emmy front this week (the nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 14, beginning at 5:30 a.m. PDT (that's 8:30am EST)--less than 48 hours from now!!. It's apparently going to be webcast live on the Official Emmy site (http://www.emmys.org/), but I can't tell if just members can watch or if the general public can, too.

I still check here everyday. like I said I am nicknamed the farscape Maven on those other boards for a reason :ewink: When I don;'t feel fierce I justtake a little break and pimp it online. Right now, I am putting together the cards HawkZon, Jagwriter and LilOrion sent me and I was reading behind the scenes cards for season 4 and they were talking about whatthey would do if they had a season 5 :cry2: You know what? It got me all riled up again!!

Also, it made me realize how much I want to complete the quotable and behind the scenes sets (cheap and pretty is the way for me when it comes to trading cards). There is still plenty of appetite in me I think for Farscape.

Thank You Kathleen. I did not know I was an inspiration to anybody. Me wuvs this place. Also, I wanted to say I think this year I had the most stuff there has ever been for a TTrek table for Farscape, 100% due to scapers here. I truly solely honestly mean that. So I do not think the fandom is waning. If it was I would hardly have anything. Now, I have to transport the stuff by car. :elol: I had a hard time this year (with my sisters illness) and all you scapers helped make it bearable. Doing all this FS stuff really helped distract from the grimness of everyday for quite a while and gave my sis stuff to do when she was bored. So I think there will always be a part of me that will be pushing scape since it had such a positive influence on my life. I truly mean that. (My sis has improved too :) )

Did I also, mention, I pimp the vids on FS fantasy too? I put a grown man and a bunch of Faramir swooners in tears. ;) (I just link to the page though ;) ) :elol: :elol:

And finally there was that commendable prank we called BraScape where we had over 20,000 hits to the thread in just one week  and Bonnie Hammer was the annoyed recipient of hundreds of bras showing our support of Farscape and Breast cancer awareness and homeless shelters in NY.... yes we done good and we had fun and we made a point. I know my post office staff knew all about Farscape. :D

Well, now we have one diverse board, filled with topics going from Wrasslin' to drinkin' to peein' in the shower.

That's all fine, just as long as you don't drink pee in the shower.

Don't wrassle in the shower, either. It makes the angels cry.

. . . Things like that. . .Like Ms. Hammer said, "Never say "Never"."? It's been chilling out all over the country for some time now, and there's always a chance that in the future some of the restrictions might be eased.

The Civil War, WWII, and Vietnam were some of the times when Americans got passionate. 9/11 was another of those things that got tempers flaring; For many, policies that would ensure the safety of themselves and their families felt like life-and-death matters.

With three years of hindsight now, Americans are more reflective and more calmer in general. Firebrands like Michael Moore, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Dean, and Ann Coulter are mostly ignored now. The once popular political-attack show "Crossfire" is now no more. Most Americans can now see (with hindsight) that there were valid concerns raised by all sides, and flame-throwing is not constructive.

In one form or another, things have slowly been mellowing-out at many of the other discussion forums: People are being more able to discuss without yelling at each other. Maybe not right now but perhaps one day the 'Scapers will be able to too. :)

Personally, I think the ONLY way we can finally achieve peace with each other despite differing political views is to get together, stand on the steps of Skiffy's headquarters and re-enact every single episode of Farscape with a special orchestral section of us supplying sound effects and music.

Some of us have children and some of us have pets. They're welcome too -- they can be guest stars and DRDs. Some pets out there look like space aliens anyway and the things they cough up can qualify as unidentifiable.

Whaddya say?
