I have an iomega Zip usb port CD burner that doesn’t record - it plays disks but when I go to burn a CD both discribe and toast say no recorder selected ....
it worked before but doesn't now - please some one help me - I so desperately need this - with out it I have no home busyness - and no means of making any real money - and I’m almost broke now .
God please some one help me.

A few things to try.
Re-install your software.
I just had an Epson scanner stop working because I had somehow "lost" my drivers.
Check your extensions control panel. You might have something disabled that you need. Have you installed any new software recently? Sometime things get overwriten that should not be.
Check the Chooser, make sure Appletalk is active.
Rebuild your desktop.
Zap your pram.
If you have Norton Disk Doctor, or Tech Tool, or Disk Warrior, run it.
A very good place for Mac help is http://xlr8yourmac.com/
Good luck.

Have you trashed the preferences for Toast and Discribe?

First uninstall the programs and trash the preferences. Restart.
Then re-install the drivers and/or Toast and Discribe while the burner is hooked up. You may want to consider just installing ONE program. They may be interfering with each other.
Check extensions, but if you reinstall the programs, they are probably fine
Check the Iomega site to see if there are updated drivers (from several years ago) and install them if so.
Zapping pram or rebuilding the desktop should be monthly maintenance anyway and won't hurt, but it probably won't help in this case, imo. It's a driver problem, it sounds like.

I probably got frelled some how - but I don’t know .
Zapped the pram
trashed preferences
reinstalled software - separately - together - as internal, external and usb
ran through extensions
ran through Disk warrior
hit the web site
everything suggested and a few convoluted has no reason to work at all ideas
even went as far as a clean install the OS- "NOTHING"
finally gave up went to the store for help ended up replacing the Burner for 10 dollars - warranty was up -
plugged the new one in - worked perfectly, and unsurprisingly - much better than the first one did.
but I have never come across a mechanical problem like that before.
it played but it would not be recognized as a recorder.
I was lucky it didn’t cost more.
did I get frelled ?
up side - all of that cleaning up has my Mac running better.
thank you all fellow Mac people just the same, your support meant alot.

sorry nothing worked. Sometimes they just don't. :( Glad it didn't cost you more than it did to get a working burner though.
