I'm considering trying to organize some sort of rally for Oct. 5th, and would like to hear from 'scapers in the Atlanta area, or those willing to drive into Atlanta from neighboring Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. If you're interested, please email me at Desvernine@aol.com.

Thanks! :)

You guys really should. Atlanta is one of the top ten tv markets with 1,971,180 or 1.848 % of the US viewers.

I've spoken with Barbarella and this might be a go. But I need to hear from people who'd be willing to help and attend. Instead of a traditional rally, I'm thinking of spending the day handing out fliers, stickers, etc., and then having a 'scaper party that night at a local venue (as yet undetermined), with a live band, video, etc. People with costumes would be encouraged to wear them, at least for the evening. We'd have press coverage.

Please, if you're in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, anywhere remotely near Atlanta and are interested in a day of Farscape on Oct. 5th, please contact me ASAP.

Best,

You are aware that we did have a HUGE rally ... on two days notice ... in the rain ... three days before getting people on CNN for an hour?

I suggest any newcomers in the Atlanta area contact LisaW, who organized the last rally ... quite successfully.

das, you are correct and we had a lot of contributors on short notice for the last one. However, this needs to be a more concerted effort and we need to have a little more planning since we have time.

Everyone gear up. It's time to lead by example.

http://www.atlantascapers.com is up and running with an events calendar and a message board for local stuff. Send an email to me at cat@atlantascapers.com if you want something posted, or go to the site and click the Post a Message link to get to the Atlanta board.

In addition, there are already plans for an Atlanta rally underway, you might want to check in at the board if only for that reason, as October 5 is also Hands On Atlanta.

Of Course I am aware about the other rally. However The Global rally is a more concerted event and we need as many Participants as possible. If you have a local rally on 10/5 there is a good chance that you can get on the local news and create a big buzz in your specific market.

That's they way I am looking at this thing. The rallies create local interest because they are local and because they are just one piece of the bigger picture.

To all --

The Atlanta rally will be a unified effort. No group will be excluded and I very much acknowledge, applaud, and appreciate the efforts of LisaW and the others who marched in the first rally. No slight was intended, I promise.

We are all talking now.

If you intend to make some part of the Atlanta rally, or want more info., please go to www.savefarscapecentral.com click "rally news," and register your intention to come/participate. All suggestions are welcome.

For the evening, we're also looking for people with good costumes (there were quite a few at Dragon*Con).

Again, my main concern is that no energy or money is wasted in this effort. All of us in Atlanta will work together on Oct. 5th. Please feel free to e-mail me or Tintallin for more information.

Up this morning to e-mail from a lot of folks who want to attend the Atlanta rally and help out. We need you!

If you do intend to make it to Atlanta on Oct. 5th, please go to:

Attendence (http://savefs.xidus.net/cgi-bin/rally.cgi?action=display)

and register that you'll be there (or at least want to be there). We need an idea of numbers for the venue. I'll post a longer message today regarding specific needs we have (people who can donate fliers, help offset copy costs, etc.). Right now I'm working on the evening venue arrangements and the bands.

Thanks to everyone. We'll make this work.

Hi all,

Hopefully tomorrow I'll have news on a venue for the evening portion of the rally. We spent all day today on the phone with all sorts of people. I've received e-mail from scapers in TN and SC who intend to make the trip to Atlanta on Oct. 5th. It's going well. Again, please register your intent to attend at:

Alright, guys, start watching this thread and contribute as you can. People are going to start generating some off the wall ideas and, well...I like off the wall.

Seriously, if you see something here that is unusual and eye catching, let the rest of us know, particularly if it is something that you are good at doing, making, or accomplishing. We are in the top ten cities in the nation for viewers and ratings. Let's make an impression with our initial focus being towards October 5th. After that, we'll plan our next move.

Things are going very well with the Oct. 5th Atlanta rally plans. Lisa is coordinating the canvassing efforts and I'm putting together the evening party/rally. I'll let Lisa or Cat say more about the canvassing plans.

Regarding the evening, we have been extremely fortunate to have use of Asylum, which is part of The Chamber, donated to us for the evening (there are scapers everywhere!). So we do have a venue. It will, however, be 21 and over. Alcohol will be served. We've booked darkwave cellist Diana Obscura and are still lining up other musicians. Tonight we'll be talking with people regarding video and a dj. Oxford Comics has tenatively agreed to be present to sell FARSCAPE merchandise. There will be door prizes (DVDs, action figures, trading cards, etc.). If enough people come in costume (which I'd really like to see; at least dig out those leather pants!), there will be a costume contest. Please, everyone in the Atlanta area, make plans to come and bring as many friends as you can. Watch for more updates. Things are happening fast. :aok:

Hi everybody! Just checking in to Caitlin's thread here to give you my side of the update:

We are planning several things related to the Global Rally on Oct. 5. Prior to the 5th we're meeting for an informal party/strategy session at one of my favorite places, Famous Pub, in Toco Hills. This is near Emory on N. Druid Hills. We'll be there Sat. night (the 28th) around 9pm (Eastern) in the back. You're more than welcome to come to chat and hang out and avoid all responsibility. :)

On the day of the 5th we're going to coordinate several different rally points around Atlanta and beyond. We want small groups of people to hand out flyers. Our focus right now is local awareness, and we hope to increase the fanbase come January if possible! I've set up a webpage for the rally points, but it's really in its infancy. I need people to volunteer not only to pass out flyers in your part of town, but also I need some contact people to be rally point leaders. Here's the url for my page:
http://www.atlantascapers.com/lisa/fifth.html
Please email me ASAP if you're interested in setting up another rally point. I'm happy to help anybody in any way.

Caitlin is in charge of the evening activities including the Diana Obscura concert. She'll post more info on that I'm sure, but you can also check the above webpage as I'll post more info when it's official.

As always, guys, email me email me email me.

We're talking about satellite rallies in Chattanooga, and other parts, and if you're one of the 'Scapers from Nashville love you guys! :)

I have already contacted Lisa about the possibility that our Nashville rally may fail to gather a large number of people. Also, our UPN station is run by robots. The local media is not interested in our story because it doesn't have to do with firefighters soliciting hookers or stealing mail (yes, this is considered news in Nashville).

Also, call me selfish, but I want to see the new friends I made in Atlanta at the last rally.

You want people with costumes? I got costumes. Since Caitlin's Chiana costume is so frelling awesome, I will come as a Nebari. I was Chiana last year. http://www.nashvillelitfest.org/archives/ericaschiana.jpg

I will rally the Scapers here in Nashville to get a bunch of us together. Maybe we can rent a van.

Love,
Eric

Hi, Eric.

Actually, I wasn't Chiana, but a Nebari of my own creation, Tailah.

Yes. We'd be glad to have Nashville people, especially Nashville people in costume.

Eric and co,

I was thinking that handing out flyers is primarily a noontime thing. If you guys hand out flyers and then get in the car in the afternoon, couldn't you be here for the party/event at 10pm? :)

Caitlin,

Tailah or Chiana, it is awesome.

Lisa,

We will do the noon-time flyers. That would work. I am off all weekend so a weekend in ATL sounds delicious. I can finally get some of that Black and White soup I love so much:) Is there a hotel near the venue you can recommend?

Eric.

Eric, thanks. I'll be in the costume again for the evening (the make-up alone takes two hours of airbrushing).

I would not reccommend any of the hotels in the immediate vicinity of the venue (I'm not even sure there are any). However, I will shortly, by sometime early next week, post a list of good, clean, cheap to mid-range local hotels to the rally page on www.nebari.net/rally.html

I just came from a night out with LisaW and brought up lodging very, very briefly. I will not speak for other Scapers here, but I will talk to my significant other and may be able to make the living room and a bathroom available for anyone who may want to come but can't afford lodging. I'll get back to you. I kind of like the idea of a pre-Rally night of Farscape Viewing.

I'll get back to you.

Ok, in some quick searching the cheapest best hotel (not a flop) is the Sleep Inn Buckhead. This is apparently ranging from $60 and up and it's within I'd say a mile or so. It's a bit more than walking distance, but that's about as good as it gets. Let's just say the part of town is... interesting. I'll admit that I've seen some... performances nearby, and not the kind you pay for in advance. The kind you pay for with $1 bills. ;)

Alright, Scapers, all is well in the Atlanta World today because Farscape is in it! I've heard a variety of wonderful news, but others will be passing it on as I don't have details and can't answer questions, but I can share this:

If you need overnight lodging for the weekend of October 5, I have floor space available with the following conditions:

1. You have to be willing to bring a sleeping bag or some other such item to sleep on the floor. I don't have enough beds for everyone. First come, first served for the 2 recliners and the futon.

2. Bring appropriate snacks or preferred drinks. I don't know your personal tastes. We'll work out regular meal details when you get here. My wife is a great cook and Pizza Hut is 1/8 of a mile away. We have a Sam's Card, too. It isn't that far away.

3. I have cats and kids. Both are well behaved :), but you should be warned anyway.

A few Scapers have been over and we had a good time. I have an overhead screen and a DVD Player on my computer and I borrow the projector from work, so we can watch Farscape on my "make shift" big screen and have a good time. Just email me and we'll go from there.

I know a lot of you are coming from out of town and based on the previous rally, I think we can accomodate most of you. If not, well I know a few other folks who can maybe. Anyway, if you were considering not coming because of the expense, all you really need now is gas money, a ride, and a bag of your favorite chips and 6 pack of your favorite drink. We'll make sure you eat, survive, and have a good time. Atlanta is going to rock and we want all we can get to be there.

Rock On, Scapers! We're looking forward to having you.

P.S. If you will be in earlier than the 4th or staying later than the 6th (leaving Monday Morning), I would like to know that too. Thanks.

Tintallin,

Your generosity is amazing. However, my Nebari make-up causes the biggest mess. With this in mind, I will probably get a hotel room.

I am going to bring four people to ATL that night.

I'm making tentative plans on attending the Norcross rally point (without having talked to Lisa first) as I'm very near that area.

Frankly, if you are concerned about the make up, I live with a wife and two girls. Don't sweat it. We make plenty of mess for halloween and other holidays.

If you like, we can accomodate you and we have pretty good access to Norcross where Lisa will be, Downtown, Marietta, and Buckhead. We are in North Central Atlanta and everything is 20 to 30 minutes away which is about all you can ask around here.

Just let me know if anyone has special needs. I didn't paint that long ago, so I have a ton of plastic left that I can cover stuff up with. Just let me know what you need in advance. I can prepare for almost anything except in-laws and we won't go there.

Thank you. I thought I had scared you off forever because I'm...um...well...strange. It was great having you. Now, if Farscape will just come out with a trivial pursuit game...

And Yes, all of these wonderful videos that everyone has been putting out will be available on the big screen via the computer. I have about 47 of them downloaded and will keep adding in. We don't have to watch the shows. We can watch Scaper Videos for a loooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggggg time.
