View Full Version : A question that I need some help on
So, a question came through the front page of the website, and I need some scaper help.
It seems that a family just had a new baby girl, and the husband is a big fan of Farscape and they'd like to name her Aeryn.
But, they'd like to know where the Farscape PTB came up with the name Aeryn and if it has a meaning. My understanding is that it's a derivation of the name Erin, with an alternate spelling.
Can anybody either confirm this for me or give me an alternate explanation to this nice couple who want to name their 4 day old daughter? :D

I just googled "Aeryn" and there are plenty of non-Farscape Aeryns out there, all of whom are older than the show. So I think it's a safe name to go with. As for its meaning, I didn't find anything.

i found this
Erin is an anglicization of Irish Éirinn, the dative case of Éire, the Irish word for "Ireland". According to Irish mythology and folklore, the name was given to the land by the Milesians after the goddess Ériu. Nineteenth-century Irish nationalists used Erin in English as a romantic name for Ireland, as shown in the catchphrase when speaking of Ireland's experiences with Britain, "Let Erin Remember". Erin Go Bragh, often heard during St. Patrick's Day means "Ireland Forever"
Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin"
Other google searches show varients of the spelling,one spelt 'Airan', meant 'mountain of strength', in Hebrew. ;)

I seem to remember hearing that Aeryn Sun was the name of an Australian company - don't know where I heard/read it, though, and don't have any etymology on it.

I thought I read that Rockne or DK said it was a play on words as in Aeryn being John's Air and sun...In other words all he needed to live in life. (Wonder if her middle name is Beehsekschokolatan ? :D )
(BTW Janet I still have to get to your email and everything else!! Thank you!!! :hug: )

Gosh, I can't remember if I read this somewhere or saw it on a DVD interview, but I recall Rockne saying that he named some of the characters based on traits and others on elements he thought they represented. For example:
Rygel = regal
Zhaan = zen
Aeryn Sun = air and sun

Well I know someone who named their daughter Ezri. I'm still undecided on if that was a good idea or not, since the only time I've ever heard the name is on Star Trek.
However, Aeryn is perfectly fine if you ask me.
